How do I go about arranging all folders by kind? Whenever I goto view options and select "use as defaults", it only applies to that folder...not to all folders!! I have Snow Leopard

The top bar of some folders is fade. I can't arrange files by click "size", "kind" and etc. How can I make it active?

I am just learning about Itunes. Is it possible to arrange the music library into folders to make it easier to find songs to put on playlists.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with keeping all of my folders arranged by Kind. I have gone into the tasks toolbar in finder. From there I go to Show View Options, then I click choose Arrange by Kind, and then click use as defaults. This does not work, because when I go into a different folder or if I create a folder inside a different folder (that I made), the folder is not arranged by Kind. I have also tried using alt and going to the task toolbar to Keep Arranged By. However both options are only arranging the folder that I am in. I want every folder to be arranged this way.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get my applications folder to remember to arrange itself by name. I can change it while in the folder... but when I exit it and go back into it; it's reset to the way it was...
Also, upon completion of setting up my MBP, an error message occurred notifying me that something didn't complete or go through... however I can click somewhere in one of my folders to go back to it. Does anybody know what this is? I can't remember what it said earlier...
Finally... in Mail... is there a way to get rid of the "RSS feeds" thing? Also, I have an AOL account and I can't stand the fact that every time I open mail a new subfolder appears called "Saved IM's"... why? I have never used it and keep deleting it. Also... now there's "mailboxes" with just inbox, sent, and trash.... which is nice but then also my email address has its own menu under it?
For those of you who know Windows, you can view your folders/files in a list but still re-arrange by type/kind (i.e. I will get the folders first, then the different kinds of files).

I've been a long time windows user and just last week got my first mac! (macbook pro core i5) and so far I'm loving everything about it. Altought I do have some vices I brought with me from windows and I wanted to see if you guys could help me out. On windows I was used to arranging my files automatically by name, and windows would organize it first the folders and then the files itself...all by name.
On mac, I do know how to arrange my files by name, but for example, on my documents folder I have a mix of files (txt,docx,ppt) and folders.
I wanted the folders appearing first (by name) and then the files (also by name)
In windows, we can go to the folder options and choose "Apply to all folders" to apply the setting of a current folder to all other folders. I opened the finder, pressed the "windows" key and choose view > keep arranged by > kind.
It does arrange things by kind, but if i move or delete a folder, it does not auto arrange it again by kind. Can someone please elaborate upon this? How can I keep my folder auto arranged by kind?
I've got a folder of files which I add to on a weekly basis, by dragging the file in there, and it just goes to the bottom. So when I open the folder, all the most recent stuff is at the the bottom of the folder. Now I've got a problem since I updated to Snow Leopard. When I opened that folder, everything was arranged alphabetically, and arrange by date makes the newest go to the top.
Is there any way I can adjust this so that it reverses, like when you do a search for something and you arrange by order, ascending or descending?
How could i arrange the icons on the mac desktop? I know I can right click and arrange it by name and size. But how do I put an icon in the middle of the screen? (or somewhere else)

Alright so I bought the Logitech V470 Bluetooth mouse for my MB. It's kind of small but I like it.
Anyways, I had the Logitech drivers and everything was going decent, but the mouse was still kind of laggy. Now after reading a thread on a Logitech mouse, everyone said Logitech's drivers were horrible. So I uninstalled everything that said Logitech Control Center. I didn't get everything though, because it still says Logitech Control Center connected whenever I connect my mouse. Is there anyway to get rid of it? I can't find anything about Logitech anywhere on my system.
Now to my second problem, the mouse pointer lags! I go and try to click the back button and it takes me a couple tries every now and then because it over shoots it and then lags back. It's really annoying.
Is there anything I can do about that?I might add that I'm using an external monitor.I'm thinking of just buying a new mouse, but that's another $50...
old mac g4 (digital audio) working well this morning, then power cut, now mac is off and cant get it going.

Whenever I drop an icon into the finder window the icon get placed wherever I drop it instead of being placed alphabetically. I can go to view>clean up, and it fixes it but I want it to go back to where it always just did it.
Also, the icons do not increase or decrease columns when I make the finder window larger or smaller, it just always stays at 3 columns.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI do not think my 10.5.7 updated correctly. I have a unibody. When I click on my battery icon it does not show the different profiles. I updated my brothers MBP (Santa Rosa) and he DOES have the profiles in the task bar. The main problem here is that his installed with no problems. MINE, on the other hand, was installing, it freaked out, and I had to force restart it. When it restarted, I had 10.5.7. Is there a way to kind of uninstall it and then reinstall it?

There is no need to debate viruses/trojans and all that stuff. Just wondering if people use some kind of security software of if you just use your computers as is out of the box. View 3 Replies View RelatedI imported a video in to iTunes, and it came in as a movie. It's an educational video, so I thought it would be nice to set its media type to iTunes U. I did that, then clicked iTunes U in my left hand pane, and the video did not appear. I created a smart playlist where media kind = iTunes U, and there it was. So I figured I'd change it to Podcast. I changed it, and it didn't show up under Podcasts, (but again does appear under smart playlist). So I figured I'd change the media kind back to Movie, but now that media kind is no longer available from the dropdown list! My only choices are Music, Podcast, iTunes U, Audiobook, Voice Memo.How can I change the media kind to movie so it appears in my movies?

I want to organize some of my folders randomly but I can only seem to arrange them by Name, Date, Label, etc. Some direction would be helpful, as I haven't used anything but Windows until now.
2: In Windows I had System Clean-Up and System Defrag to help maintain and keep my system organized/clean. Does OS X have similar programs or is there any other type of program Mac has for users maintain their system?
I have a finder window of pictures which I am displaying as icons, but I want to order them so that the most recent image is at the top. When I choose to order by date created, I get this new thing where the icons are in horizontal rows by date and many of the files are no longer visible unless you scroll to the right. Kind of like a combo of icon and coverflow. Is it not possible to just have the icons appear in a grid as normal, but most recent ones at the top, or whatever ordering method I choose?
