My iphoto will not open it just sits there and acts like it is about to load by bouncing on the dock. I get no message saying it can't open it will eventually just stop acting like it's going to load. Now the main photo icon for iphoto has eve changed it looks like a blank piece of paper with a pencil and pen at the bottom of it, and it used to be that signature iphoto sunset.
View 1 RepliesI have about 20 hours of low res digicam videos sitting in iphoto. When I launch Imovie, it loads all 20 hours without asking then proceeds to quit unexpectedly if I try to do anything. Is there a way to prevent iphoto from loading all of them without deleting the videos from my iPhoto library? I have about a 30 minute video I would like to edit I'm frustrated.How about removing all those clips except the ones I care about? Can I do that? (after waiting 20-30 minutes for them to load)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got four computers (2 OSX, 2 XP)and an NAS networked and sharing internet via DSL from Verizon using their Actiontec GT704WG modem. All computers are connected via gigabit ethernet (NOT wireless, though the Actiontec wireless is used by some appliances in the house (Wii, iPhones, TiVo, Airport Express, occasional laptop). I am not using the router features of the Actiontec. I have 1 ethernet cable going from the Actiontec into a gigabit switch and the computers are connected to the switch. I can tell from the switch they are all networked at gigabit speeds (except for the Actiontec, of course).
File transfers and connections between my computers appears to be fine, but internet connections appear to get bogged down regularly. On all the computers, the biggest symptom I see is that pages will refuse to load or only load partially. Most of the time, if I reload the page, it will finally load, but sometimes it takes multiple tries before the page finally loads completely. The only way to fix the problem is to reset our internet connection. Sometimes just powering down the Actiontec for 15 seconds works. Most of the time, I have to power it down, and unplug it for 30 seconds. Sometimes I have to do this multiple times before everything is fixed and the computers can access internet again. I find I have to do this anywhere from twice a day to once every other day.
This is an issue I've come across with Macs the last few years & it's only taken me until now to raise any question as to why. It's not specific to Snow Leopard.
Sometime after using my Mac for a while it will just completely freeze up without any explanation why. The CPU is below 50% and still has around 100mb free memory. Eventually if I leave my machine long enough it will get to the state where I can quit a few apps, but it still be awfully slow until I restart the computer.
I admit that I very rarely shut my computer down, most of the time just sleep repeatedly for as long as 2/3 weeks... This isn't a specific issue to the machine, I've experienced this on my old iBook, iMac & now MacBook Pro.

While working in iPhoto I think Spotlight began to index my Backup Drive. My MBP became slow and eventually unresponsive. The mouse became choppy then disappeared and the process being done in iPhone froze up. Everything froze and nothing responded. I have never had anything happen like this before. What just happened? Low memory issue, some GUI error? A force restart, after waiting several minutes for something to click, brought everything back to normal.

I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.

I suddenly cannot access the several thousand photos in my iPhoto Library. I believe my computer must have automatically downloaded and upgraded the version I previously had. Now I get an error message that reads: The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete. I still need my images able to be read by previous versions since I go back and forth editing between older desktops. Is there a way to access the photo library without okaying the upgrade? If I reinstall an older version of iPhoto, will I lose the existing library of photos?

I just imported some photos into IPhoto 09 and shortly afterwards my IMac did a hard shut down. Now when I open IPhoto I get the following error:
The Photo Library nees to be upgraded to work with this version of IPhoto.
After that I click on upgrade and get the following msg:

Thought I'd start this thread for people to discover/add any info they have on what iPhoto Faces is doing behind the scenes to help with troubleshooting, since Apple doesn't have any preferences for Faces in the iPhoto GUI. This is only for people who like to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Please note this is not for everyone and anytime you do anything to your iPhoto library you risk corruption and should have a backup copy. What I've noticed so far:
- iPhoto scans the library the first time it opens, and creates 2 faces .db files with the iPhoto Library:
face_blob.db
face.db
- iPhoto creates Faces thumbnails files and places them in the iPhoto Library/Data folder along with the other thumbnails it creates................

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am transferring info from an iBook G4 running Tiger to a MacBook running Snow Leopard. Everything is going well, except for my ability to transfer the iPhoto library. I have mounted the iBook to the MacBook via Firewire. When I transferred my iPhoto library from my MB to my new MBP, it was easy: all I had to do was drag over "iPhoto Library" from User>Pictures>iPhoto Library But it isn't set up the same way on the iBook: in User>Pictures, "iPhoto Library" is a folder instead of a small iPhoto icon (which you would need to right-click on to see its contents). When I copied the contents of the folder into "iPhoto Library" on the new MacBook, it didn't maintain all of the organization (eg. the albums). Is there any way to do this so that iPhoto will keep the organization of the photo library on the new MacBook, or am I destined to reorganize my thousands of photos into albums again? Please keep in mind that the MacBook is being set up as a new computer, and I am copying over the files/docs/music/photos that she wants to keep from the iBook. I am not using Migration Assistant.

The computer is ignoring all the dates i entered on the individual film rolls and displaying them with date that's embedded on the digital images.An example is i have a film roll which contains photos of my cat Salem which range from 2004 to 2012. This 'folder' used to be displayed at the bottom of all the film rolls as i had it dated 12/25/2020 so i knew where it was and could add to it easily. Now though it's near the top lumped together with 2004 photos dated 2004-2012.How do i get iPhoto to display my photo film rolls the way they were on iphoto 6?I would go back to running TIiger and the apps that came with it including iPhoto 06 but i need snow leopard as i have bought two new Lacie 2 TB drives for storage and they need a newer operating system.

I want to completely re-install Mac OS X on my Mac Pro for several reasons:
The system is old. I started it with 10.4.1 and upgraded it to 10.5, then to 10.6. On the way there, the system has been moved from an old Mac Pro to a new one.
The system has seen a lot of playing around with, tons of installs (incl. drivers) and by now is simply a grown mess with a lot of problems that I can't seem to fix nor want to fix.
So - I want a fresh start. And I need some help planing this.
Back in the days of 10.5 you had the option to "archive and install", which would simply move the old system to a folder and install a baby fresh Mac OS X on the system. You could then go ahead and move things like applications, the user library and what not from the archived location back to the new install, one by one, piece by piece, in a very controlled fashion.
With 10.6 that option is no longer available.so the question is: How do I erase and install Mac OS X 10.6 while retaining my old stuff? I know how to do the fresh install, the point is more like how do I keep and import old stuff...
How good is the migration assistant? I figure you can use it to import old stuff from a time machine backup.
In the end, I want a fresh install and be able to import things like preferences/library for certain applications (that I don't want to rebuild from scratch, like a huge Plex Media Center install) - without reimporting things that are causing problems on the current install.

Anyway, before the celebrations begin I want to know how I can completely copy my current Mac's hard disk to an external hard disk so that I can then copy this all onto my new Mac. Forget networking old and new Macs, that's out of the question for reasons too complicated to go into here.
Ideally I'd like to have my new Mac with all of the apps and documents and what have you that I've got on my current Mac.
Can I achieve this all with Time Machine ie. can another Mac read the backed-up data from another Mac?

View 12 Replies View RelatedThere have been many brief posts mentioning that unlike previous MBAs, the new MBAs do not slow down the CPU when heat goes beyond a certain point. Does this mean there is completely no CPU throttling at all? Or that it still throttles, but at a higher heat level? If there is completely no CPU throttling, then logically it should fall back to another common method of handling overheating which is to automatically turn off the machine (not a very elegant method, but at least it's something). Do the new MBAs do this? If not, how do they handle overheating?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wonder if it is possible to hide the Dock completely. If you go to Dock settings and hide it, it will appear when the cursor near its edge. What I want, is to hide it completely - dont want it to appear all of a sudden and interrupt me. I found the app Dock Gone, which hides the Dock and makes it accessible via a keyboard-shortcut. Thing is, it costs $14.95, and I just want the dock to disappear.
Is there a way to do this? A terminal command or something? I guess there must be - Dock Gone is doing it somehow.
I opened up Garageband, went into preferences to configure the audio for my peripheral audio device, and the computer and curser locked up, so I had to shut it down by pressing the power button for 4 seconds. I restarted the G4 and it would only boot up to a blue screen with the pointer curser, but would not finish loading anything on the desktop, no icons, no menu, nothing. I tried restarting repeatedly this way, but got the same result each time.

There is no uninstaller, and I got all this QMaster and LiveType install witht eh FInal Cut Pro as well. So yeah it's quite a mess now. I'm deleting 1 one 1 searching through folder but I don't think I get rid of everything. Wish there is a uninstaller for this.
