MacBook Air :: Completely No CPU Throttling At All?
Nov 1, 2010There have been many brief posts mentioning that unlike previous MBAs, the new MBAs do not slow down the CPU when heat goes beyond a certain point. Does this mean there is completely no CPU throttling at all? Or that it still throttles, but at a higher heat level? If there is completely no CPU throttling, then logically it should fall back to another common method of handling overheating which is to automatically turn off the machine (not a very elegant method, but at least it's something). Do the new MBAs do this? If not, how do they handle overheating?

Feb 6, 2012It will turn on and show a blank grey screen and the apple with the rotating circle as if it's loading everything to turn on, but it stays on this page, I left it on for a few hours to see if it would eventually start up but so far... Nothing !!! I do not have my installer disks!

MacBook Pro :: How Exactly Do I Completely Wipe
Mar 25, 2012My MBP has been acting strangly for more than two months now. It started with taking a couple minutes to locate the WiFi, then just general slowness, and now is so troublesome that I want to just wipe it completely to factory fresh and try again. I nearly chucked it out a wondow today, the first time a Mac has made me feel like I was using a PC.I originally posted quite awhile ago (url...) although 300+ reads got not a single reply. So I don't know whether I am even posting this in the right area.is this more likely a Lion problem? Or something else? I don't know and am tired of being stressed. Had an important paper to write today and probably should have used my iPhone rather than trying to convince my MBP to work.
I have repaired the permissions, zapped the PRAM, re-installed Lion, re-RE-installed Lion, and tried just living in Safe Boot Mode. I just want my Mac to work, as it always has in the past. So now, let's just start fresh and see what happens. Except guess what? I can't find any specific instructions as to how to even do THAT.So I am begging someone to give me simple instructions to erase my hard drive so I can just start over.

Jun 4, 2009I bought my mac refurbished from apple about a month ago. My mac started freezing up completely. about 6 times a day. There was no damage done by me. No new programs had even been installed. I took it into the apple store and they sent it in to be repaired. I got it back a day ago and the same problem started happening again. Now it wont even boot up without freezing. My question is where do I go from here? do i take it in again? i shouldn't have to wait and keep on sending it out..or should I call apple care and request a new computer?

May 19, 2010With mine, when I drain it completely, it just shuts down, i.e. it doesnt go to sleep mode as there is no pulsating light on the front right corner. Once I start charging, however, and I can again switch it on, it resumes where I left off, so the computer has saved the contents of the memory onto the hard disk. On my SR MBP it was different, it would actually go to sleep mode when the batteries were almost completely drained.

Jun 30, 2014I just got a MacBook last week, and am running 10.9.3. Twice so far, I've been using the computer and the UI ceases to respond: no response to keypresses, no response to the trackpad. The only way out seems to be a hard reset of the computer. This is a brand-spanking new Mac, although I have installed QuickSilver and Firefox. Have there been any issues with freezing on 10.9?

MacBook Pro :: System Not Shut Down Completely Now Not Working
Aug 29, 2010I believe that I shut down my macbook but was mistaken and it did not shut down completely. The next day I opened it up and the screen wouldn't turn on like it usually does after simply being closed without powering down. I wasn't around to use it till a day later, being today, and I thought it was just a low battery problem. Now the battery is fully charged and yet it is still in the same state.
There is one light on but it is not bright like it is when sleep mode is not taking place. Also, it sounds like its running; I can hear the fan running but both the keyboard and screen are refusing to turn on. I've gone on the apple support page and have attempted what they suggest, but it didn't work. I don't use any plug in devices like a mouse, the only things I plug in are the battery charger and my IPod.

I don't want to mute it and be able to raise the volume and it'll start working again; I want there to be no possibility of sound unless I go back and fix what I changed. Dec 5, 2010Not exactly sure what happened, but I think it has something to do with the new iPhoto? I booted it for the 1st time off my external drive to create a X-Mas Card and imported 4 photos into it. Don't know if after opening it, it attempted to import all the photos from my external drive to my internal drive? Don't know why it would do that but there is no sign of it in the Pictures folder. Any ideas? Only other thing I did was sync my iPad, so I went into my backups and deleted all those files and it freed up 16gb. I started last night with 44 gb and don't know where in the f the rest of my space went? I've used DriveSlim to attempt to find any wasted space, but nothing turned up Is there a way to see specifically what happened last night?? I have Time Machine running I've restarted my comp, and still stuck around 16gbs......clueless as to where this Hard-drive space is being used. I've gone thru all my main folders (pictures, music, movies, etc...) and its not being wasted their....has to be hiding somewhere in my Library or what?

Mar 16, 2009Bought and downloaded iWork '09 March 8 from authorised Apple reseller in Hong Kong, used it for a week. loaded software onto white MacBook 13'' 2.16Gz. machine is now 7 months out of the standard 1-year warranty (meaning I've owned the machine for 1 year and 7 months). Apple Auto Update cued update for iWork '09 (Pages, Numbers) on March 13, which I authorised for it to download. Left and came back to computer, which does not turn on. Tried resetting PRAM, SRAM, doesn't work - completely crashed, light next to IR port does not turn on, battery does not charge, but power adapter lights up green when connected. Went to CASE, in Mongkok (Hong Kong), over the weekend.
3rd party service contractor of AppleCare HK, which takes care of hardware problems. The counter rep said it will cost me HK$600 (US$100) just to examine the problem because the machine is out of warranty. I kicked up a fuss. he finally gave it a cursory look, say something is wrong with logic board and says they will have to charge me HK$10,000 (US$1,200 = which equals new aluminum MacBook) to fix it. But they said i should wait to speak to a Customer Service rep on Monday to see what more could be done. So I went home, took out the hard drive and put it into an external hard drive (SATA) case. Over USB, backed up my critical user files onto another macbook. There were "stop signs" overlaid my file folder icons, I clicked on them, opened them up, transferred these files onto another external drive.
I returned original hard drive into unbootable macbook (apparently this should have fixed it), did not try to power up one last time (see below). Called up AppleCare Customer Service on Monday (see below); they were helpful. At CASE (AppleCare's 3rd party contractor), technician pushed power button and to my utter amazement, the computer turns on. screen shows the machine was just about to restart - it was stuck on Apple Update, which has just finished downloading for iWork 09. The technician says actually I am the second person to have this problem - the other person was installing updates for iLife '09. Technician also says this has never happened before iLife or iWork 09.

May 31, 2009I have owned a new white macbook for a month or so now and I am a little concerned about the quality of the screen. Basically the viewing angles are very bad. The slightest movement off center, the image completely changes, especially the blacks. Also on a pure black background, the bottom left/right corners are nowhere near black and are sort of shining greyish and it takes a bit of adjustment to get an even black from top to bottom, if at all. I was just wondering if this just a normal circumstance with theses lower-end white macbooks or should there be a better quality screen experience?

Like I am just surfing the net, and it freezes completely for 10 seconds, than everything is back to normal. I don't know what to do to remedy the problem.
