Intel Mac :: It Will Not Power On At All?
May 17, 2012
I bought my imac 5 months ago. I was browsing netflix today and the phone rang, went to answer, came back about 20 minutes later and I thought my imac had gone to sleep. tried to click my mouse to wake it up but it wouldn't do anything. I tried the power button to reboot, still nothing. Plugged it into a couple different outlets, still nothing.

I have found that by plugging in my Apogee Duet firewire audio interface and ONLY WHEN AppleFWAudio was loaded there was a 10c CPU raise that was making my MBP (late 2008) hot!I wanted to monitor the power that was required for Duet to run and to see if the temperature rise was due to that, so:With Apogee drivers uninstalled (just to be sure its not their drivers related, which is notMBP on battery power with System Profiler opened (to monitor the mA required by the computer from System Profiler -> Power)

My mid-2007 intel iMac 24" won't power on, there is no sound, screen activity or signs of life other than a slight "bzz bzz" when the power button is pressed. Yesterday it was working fine, I put the computer to sleep and when I attempted to wake it the next day, it would not. The optical eye on the mouse was lit and a green led light could be seen reflecting through the memory access door, but the computer made no sounds and would not wake. I held the power button until the mouse turned off and then attempted to reboot. All I get is a quick buzz (possibly the hard drive sound that you normally hear just before the chimes and screen powering on) when the power button is pressed, but no other activity. I attempted resetting the SMC and reinstalling the memory, no avail. Just a little buzz and nothing else. An

I have a lot of important Data from my old Power Mac (Power Mac 7300/180) that I would like to be able to run using Rosetta. The major Applications I would like to run are MacWrite Pro & Microsoft Works Vers. #4.0c. My old Power Mac was running OS 9.1 I have the original install Floppies for MacWrite & Microsoft Works. (they would have to be copied unto a CD for me to be able to install them on my Intel Mac. (no floppy drive on the Intel Mac)
Assuming I could get copies of the old Applications on a CD & then install them on my Intel Mac would they run under Rosetta & be able to open my old Data files? I am definitely not well informed about the capabilities of Rosetta. I installed Rosetta on my Intel Mac when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

Using my iMac today working away and all of a sudden the screen went black, there was no power to the computer at all. I have checked the fuse and that is ok. I am getting power to everything else. I reset the SMC as per Apple instructions on their website. Again nothing.Â
I then left it turned off for a good 5 mins and then turned on the power. The fans turned on and the mac then chimed, the creen came on and I thought everything was ok. Then the computer turned off, fans and hard drive sped It didnt even start booting to the Apple logo or the log on screen.Â
I am thinking this is a power issue within the computer and this will need to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My iMac is a 2008 21inch iMac. It is connected to a APC UPS which again all power ports are working, as I have tested that with a desk lamp. What I do normally is turn the UPS when I have shutdown my Mac in the evening and then power it up next day. While the UPS is doing is power self test I then boot the Mac, I am wondering if I should just leave the UPS turned on all the time and just unplug my iMac when I am not using it. Sometimes I do pop it to sleep last thing at night, but recently I just turn it off. Â
It has had heavy use so I am wondering if it is indeed curtains and I need to buy a new iMac. Maybe it is an excuse to buy a 27inch one! (Would be nice)Â

I turn off Imac, using apple menu. Sometimes the power button will work to turn it on, other times it won't. Been to 2 authorized dealers, they can't find problem. Sometimes jiggling or shaking computer will allow me to start using power button. Sometimes I open up case, plug and unplug everything, and then power button will work. Never know when it will work or not. Power button has had continuity check. It checks fine. Power plug is fine, outlet is fine.

I have just unpacked and connected my brand new 21.5" iMAC. When I hit the power switch on the bottom left hand side on the back nothing happens... I have checked power cord a number of times and no luck. One main question is - should the poweron button depress a much when I press it as I can feel no decernable movement/depression.

After I moved from my old house to my new appartment, my 24" late 2006 iMac instantly started making this annoying high pitch noise. Â I've tracked it to coming from the area around the hard drive fan.Â
I believe there might be a problem with the ground connection in the electricity system in the building. Â Is there a way to measure the current running through my dear iMac?Â
ps.: also see my previous post where I tried to figure out what might be the problem.

As usual, whilst claiming green credentials, the information Apple gives regarding power use is minimal and vague to the point of being meaningless .The only figures they quote are:- Maximum continuous use 205w (21.5") and 310w (27") What exactly does maximum continuous use mean ?Â
a. When the machine is switched on but not doing anythingÂ
b. Working at general office tasksÂ
c. Working flat out transcoding video etc.Â
Which of these is it? Or is it all 3? Does it use more power when performing harder tasks? If so, what power is used under scenarios a and b? Finally, how much power is used in sleep mode?

why i have to unplug the power cable from the back of my imac after every power failure at my home to get the imac to boot up. I've tried resetting the surge protecter and unplugging there. However, the only option is to unplug the cord from the back of the monitor/imac before it will boot up.Â

Is it best to turn off my 27" i7 processor iMac or put it into sleep mode when it's not in use? ie sleep or leave the house. Also the fan has just turned on, never heard it before. I am watching a video whilst converting another into mp4 format. Is that why?Â

I have a 17 Inch Intel-based IMac (2006). when I press the power button I can here and feel fans running but the Power Indicator Light turns on and the screen remains black. Nothing else happens. Not sure what I did. I didn't take anything apart. I checked over the whole compartment and all connectors appear to still be connected.
I did some research figured out how to disassemble the IMac, purchased a new hard drive, backed up the computer and when I took it all apart there was a third connector on the hard drive (temp sensor?). The new drive did not have this connector so instead of experimenting I put the computer all back together.

I decided I wanted to use the 1TB HD that's in my brand new Mac Pro in my late 2005 Power Mac G5. I installed the HD and started up the Power Mac. I was planning to insert the OS X disk and have to reinstall the operating system.
But it booted up fine and seems to be working perfectly. I thought I would have needed to reinstall OS X since the hardware/specs are completely different (especially the processor Intel V PowerPC). I thought it would be having some kind of Mac Pro in Power Mac body freak-out!
Is that not the case? Can I go ahead and use this sucker without any dramas? I've read iMovie 09 isn't compatible with PowerPC. Will all the other system and iLife 09 software work OK?

I have a non Intel Power PC, upgraded to Leopard 10.5.8 with the latest iTunes even went as far as buying a new hard drive in hopes of stopping iTunes from constantly "hanging" and displaying the multi colored ball of doom every time I try to play a tune or rename a selection. Even tho' I have a new drive and pointed iTunes to it as the new location for iTunes and have been manually installing tunes I still get the same "hang" or freeze/spinning ball. Has anybody experienced conflicts with Power PC G5 dual 2.0, iTunes and Firewire busses. I have wasted weeks trying to figure this out.

I just got a new Intel Mac Pro (10.7.4) and cannot access my network. My older G5's (10.5.8) used afp to log in but now I get this message. There was a problem connecting to the server. The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. Is there something I'm missing? My networked is wired and runs to Windows based server. All my other Mac G5's can still access the server the way I always have before.
