View 1 RepliesI am trying to install Mac OS X Lion I just downloaded. At the step where it asks you to select a disk to install, I got this message:"This disk is not formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Use Disk Utility to enable journaling or reformat the disk."What does this mean? Please help me through the steps to complete my installation of this software.

I am not a mac user (please forgive me) but I have a friend who has a Mac and cannot print all of a sudden. From what I understand it is an I-Mac and the OS is OSX.
All of a sudden (after a few years without trouble) she is getting an out of memory message when she sends a job to the printer. Further, no jobs show up in the printer dialogue window when it is sent from the computer. The print jobs are not large, just simple emails. Even when she creates a blank message with the word test in the body it still wont print.
The printer is an HP D4160.
It is not sending any messages re: the status of the cartridges. The computer is communicating with the printer as it will print a test page when commanded to from the computer so this is truly baffling.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
In the mail program the signature appears in every message I type even when i reply. Can I change this so that it does not appear at the bottom of the message when I reply, as it is appearing right down the bottom of the emails.
If not, what is a better email client to use on the mac, perhaps thunderbird?
I can't update software because a message appears that I have to log with the same Apple ID that was used to purchase them: iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto, but those apps came with OSX Lion. How can I get the "original" Apple ID?

I have a message that pops up and disappears before I can get a chance to read it. I figured it may be an issue with an application since MS office 11 is installed and was running at the times also, before a reminder pops up a message appears. I fear there may be a potential issue with the OS or an application.

I recently was having some problems with iTunes, (it was resetting and erasing the library every time i started it) so i decided to just save my mp3 files to my external hard drive and delete iTunes. My plan was to simply download iTunes again and put all my files back onto it.
However, when i downloaded iTunes, the disk image that apple gives you to set it up failed to mount. The reason, apparently, was because it was "Not Recognized"
I had no idea that an apple computer would not recognize one of the most common apple applications, but there you have it.
Not quite sure what happened, but somehow part of my OS X partition became corrupted and is no longer recognized as a startup disk. I ran techtool pro and tried to repair the volume from there without luck, then ran a Leopard install DVD and ran disk utility's repair disk twice (first time came back with an error, second it was able to complete and fix all issues). Where I'm currently at. I am able to view all of my files via Macdrive and my Bootcamp XP partition without issue and am currently backing up any files I hadn't previously backed up. My question is, will I have to do a full reinstall of OS X or is it possible to somehow activate the drive as a startup disk or diagnose where the problem lies and address it?

I have a Western Digital external hard drive used by Time Machine. Worked perfectly for a few months. Now every day, I get a message that a backup failed because the disk appears to be read only. I launch Disk Utility, and run Verify Disk It finds nothing wrong. I ask Time Machine to back up again, and it does and continues hourly for the rest of the day. The next day, the same thing happens all over again with the read only problem.
I'm trying to install Snow Leopard on my month-old Mac mini—regular upgrade, no clean install—and with about 20 minutes left to go, the monitor stopped being recognized by the mini. I have no idea what's going on with the installation. Is this normal? I've let it run for the past 10 minutes or so. Every time I hit the power button on the HP monitor, it scans for a connection and then goes to sleep after not finding anything. It makes me nervous that I can't see what's going on. Most of the time the mini is quiet but every couple minutes, the superdrive starts spinning.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2009 13 inch macbook pro with 2.4 ghz processor, 4 gb ram, all stock from apple. Machine has been working great until 2 days ago when my system froze, had to push the power off button, tried to reboot but got the flashing folder and the internal hard drive was no longer recognized. I did all the usual things and read the apple support page to no avail. I booted from the install CD and the drive is not recognized in disk utility. I took the drive out, put it in an external case and booted from there and the drive appears to be working.
I put in another internal drive, a Hitachi 500 GB/7200 RPM that looks mac compatible, disc utility will not even recognize it either with the external hard drive OS running or from the install CD. In system profiler, under hardware, it says this computer doesn't contain any ATA drives. Could this be a problem with the SATA cable internally? The rest of the logic board appears to be working as I am typing this on the affected machine running the OS from my former internal hard drive that is now in a casing.
I recently formatted one of my HardDisk using the Leopard's Disk Utility into FAT32 format.
The HDD works well with the MAC however it will not mount on a windows XP machine.
The hardware detector detects the USB external harddisk but is not able to mount it. When i use the Windows Disk Management Utility, the hard disk appears with a (Not Initialized) and Unallocated warning message.
So my friend gave me his ipod after he bought a new nano. Its a ipod video but it has a problem. whenever you turn it on it has a sad face. I even managed to get it into disk mode but itunes isn't recognizing it. anything else i can do?

When I replace the current 500GB drive with the SSD and boot with the snow leopard (10.6.3) disc, the drive is not recognized. I go into disk utility and the only drive is the DVD drive. I put the SSD in a pc laptop and booted with a Ubuntu Usb drive and it found the SSD first go, no issue, so the drive works.

I have a first gen white macbook core duo. I am trying to install a new 320GB Seagate HDD in my laptop to replace the 60Gb drive. I installed it but I can't get the OS to recognize the Hard disk when it is installed in the computer. I have no problems when it is installed in an external case. I have booted off the Leopard disk but it does not show a drive available to format, I booted off the original drive in the external case and the disk utilities does not show another drive attached. If I put the 320GB drive in the external enclosure, disk utilities recognizes it right away. I have formatted it with GUID format but it doesn't work when installed directly in the macbook.
