Everytime I time to open a PDF file in Preview I get the msg, the file couldn't be opened because you don't have permission to view it. I have checked the GET INFO and all permissions are correct.
View 3 RepliesI have a few wmv vids on my mac. Up until recently they were all fine. When I went into the folder the all files showed the Qicktime logo on them and played using flip4mac. Now the files are just white with no logo on them and when I click to play one it brings up the message "This movie could not be opened, The file is not a movie file." I have tried reinstalling flip4mac and quicktime but I still have the same issue. Someone told me to try perian but still nothing. I am guessing this is a problem with the files but not sure how this happened or how to fix it.

Whenever I try to open a file associated with Preview by double-clicking the file I get the following error message...
If I open Preview first and then open the same file from within Preview it works fine. I've tried going into Info for various filetypes and changing the "Open with:" value to change it to something else then change it back to Preview but that doesn't change the behavior. As you can see in the error message it says "Acorn created this file on August 27, 2014"... what that means. I tried deleting the Acorn app but get the same error message..

Using Lion, I have tried to re-size an image using Preview and every time I try to save my edited image it tells me I do not have permission to save this/the file is locked when I have full permissions to do so and the file is NOT locked.

I updated my circa 2013 Macbook Air 13" to OSX Mavericks and a strange issue has started. Every time I open Finder it takes literal minutes to load the file listing, and while it loads it freezes the section where the file listing loads with whatever background it was opened over. This happens all the time, and once it finally loads, it will do the same thing if I try to go to a different folder. This renders Finder essentially useless and I have had to add a third party (forklift) app to browse and manage files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIWhen I mount and open it, it contains three files: autorun.inf, edisk.dat and SVOLBRO.EXE. I am assuming that it is the edisk.dat file that I should be reading but I can not open it. I have spoken to the company who say that it should contain an encrypted pdf file. I have tried copying and renaming the file to edisk.pdf and then using preview but I am getting an error message saying the preview is unable to open the file.

I used to open my printer job as the item was printing and it would open with preview and then I could click on it and mail a copy to myself. I since installed the latest OSX Maverick and now my printer job opens with something else and I can't do anything with it except see what I am printing.

I want to have a filter that is a stand between but cannot seem to make a filter using the ColorSync utility that applies to PDFs. I want a free method to do this of course and am pretty confused as to why Apple hasn't given the user the option to control the output of the PDF in Preview. That is basic PDF viewer material.

Cannot open Preview on my MacBook Pro. I can't open any type of image file. It will preview for a second and then the report Don't Reopen/Reopen screen comes up.

I use an Olympus OMD-E10 but I cannot see the .ORF RAW on my 2011 iMac with Preview. I get: "Preview currently does not support this raw file format." My Macbook Air reads the files OK. Both run 10.9.4. Is there a way to check that Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.06 is actually installed?

I am trying to find a quick and direct way of displaying the file location of a file I am looking at using Preview.
For example, in Mac Word, I can use File > Properties > General and see the full file location but I can't see how to do this on Preview. Clicking on the name as shown below, does not show the file location, only the folder it's in (or the desktop) - i.e. the next level up. So if I have filexxx.pdf in folder1>folder2>folder3, clicking on the filename in Preview shows folder3.
Using spotlight isn't an option because I get a display like this

I am trying to install my time machine backup. But as I open the backup it says

I recently had to switch out the hard drive on my Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro. When I got the computer back from the Apple Store I began loading my old content onto the machine. When previewing and opening files, they would appear with randomly coloured splotches of pixels on them. This continues to happen when browsing folders on my machine.
The files do not show up with splotches on other computers, and are not in the same places each time I open the file, which leads me to believe they are problems with my machine and not the files themselves.
I hypothesise this is the graphics card, but I don't know enough about the hardware.
