View 1 RepliesI have a macbook with OSX 10.5.7 and 4gb ram. Having fallen victim to the current scare tactics out on the web, I downloaded and installed PC Tools's iantivirus. All went well with install. About half way through the initial system scan, iantivirus hung up and locked my system. I had to do a hard power off with the power button. Now, my mac will not boot past the Apple logo. I don't even get the spinning wheel. I have booted to my install disk and ran disk utilities and everything checks out ok. I reset the pram and removed the battery and power supply and held the power button down for 10 or so seconds. Nothing. After several minutes, the system restarts and the cycle begins again. I cannot get into safe mode.

I just got a new ISP and I seems that sites such as facebook, YouTube and even google fail to load more often than not. They wok fine on my wife's windows laptop but not on the iMac (even in my windows partition). I suspect it's an airport thing but it could also be the router (billion wireless).

But when I open up firefox/safari every web site says "unable to connect" and then when I go into my wireless utility I can ping say google in 40 ms with 0% packet loss... I don't get this. I have tried resetting my p ram, I have tried deleting all the internet connections and starting fresh... hard wiring to my internet source.

I've got no network software running in the background (other than dropbox), and I don't think I've set up a custom DNS. Not really sure how to check what it is. This is an on and off thing, sometimes facebook loads, sometimes it doesn't. Using computers connected to the same WiFi, I can freely access Facebook with no issues.

I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
My new MBP arrived this morning. I charged it and ran through the set up process without a hitch. Then I created a standard account for the family, and when I went to log off of the admin account to sign into the standard account, the MPB has hung on the blue screen with the spinning wheel. I am assuming it hasn't fully logged off yet, I don't know (the wheel is still moving). Is it safe to force reboot the computer at this point? I am a little worried since it hasn't been shut down since the initial setup. Should I kill it or wait it out and see what happens? It has been about 30 minutes thus far.
I installed 10.6.2 a little while ago - said it was successful and then began startup loading.....then screen went white and it hung. Waited and waited....finally gave up and turned it off, then on. This time it came up correctly, but had to detect second display, and also reset output speaker. Did same update on macbook pro with no issues.

Running the latest Lion software 10.7.4 ..Time machine is looping " preparing backup' ...using Time Capsule 500 gb storage...2 MBP back up to this system..one Snow Leopard and the one Lion.
Time machine is showing 30 MB available... problem appears to be that the old backups are not being deleted no storage is available and it fails to create any additional new backups.. Problem occured in March and I needed to erase the entire backup disk and start over to clear the issue.. It went successfully..now the same prob 3 months later.
My backup is about 181 gb the other is about 100 gb.. why this may be occurring? Obviously the root cause issue was not resolved by deleting the entire disk..

This usually happens a little after I wake it up but sometimes it happens at random (like 5 mins ago). Sometimes when it turns off I try to turn it back on but it just turns off after a couple of minutes again. I thought it was the ram but I ran Remember and all tests passes.

View 4 Replies View Relatedecond, my sound card (m-audio revolution 7.1) now doesnt work properly as the sound is fuzzy when i play music. i even tried to reintall the drivers but then i got NO SOUND and the analog out was disabled in sound preferences. i uninstalled the drivers and am left with no sound now. when i started up, the time was gone and my internet didnt work. the network preferences didnt even allow me to check built-in ethernet. i restarted and now everything works again *knock on wood*. is there any way i can go back to 10.4.9? also, how well does 10.5 work on PPCs? would my dual 1 GHz G4 run slower with it?

I have a few older eMacs, some with airport cards and some without. My question/problem: I want to hook an eMac 10.4.11 directly into the Time Capsule to access the internet (the time capsule is acting as an extension of our wireless network). I have done this before successfully using an airport extreme, however, I am not successful to date in doing this with time capsule. It has been a while since I set up a computer this way. My question is am I missing a trick (using ethernet cord into LAN port), or is it not possible.

My family owns two MacBooks and an iMac. All of these computers share the same internet (a wireless Bell EWire modem (which probably doesn't tell you much...)). My MacBook and my father's iMac connect easily and have connected to the internet for as long as we have had these computers (a few years). The other MacBook has connected up until a few weeks ago (it is a year younger than my MacBook). A few weeks ago, when the MacBook was closed (put to sleep but not shut down) and reopened, the airport symbol would display a working airport and connection but when I clicked Safari, it would not connect.

When I turn off mirror image however (IE effectively having two seperate screens) my internet slows down drastically. In some cases it also disconnects. This issue is resolved by turning on the mirror screen button, or unplugging the cable from the laptop.

The computer 'says' Internet Sharing is on but my iPod searches and doesn't find a signal. Plus, the four bars at the top right of the screan do not change to a solid color with the arrow pointing up like it used to when enabled and working.

I had an Exchange account that I had been using for years. Recently, I switched jobs, and therefore the Exchange account was discontinued (i.e. my user was deleted from the server, emails bounce). BUT I cannot remove this obsolete account from my System Preferences > Internet Accounts. It drives me crazy. Whenever I hit the "-" minus button, the account disappears, but whenever I open Internet Accounts again, it's right back in its place. Apple Mail keeps complaining that it "cannot connect to the server", but won't let me delete the account.
