I'm wanting to delete a user (non-administrator) account and it has been "... removing user account and directory" for the last 12 hours. I also cannot restart the system because of this message. OS X 10.9.4

New MacBook Pro. Created test user account for apple to debug a problem. Problem fixed, I tried to delete account, but it just hangs sating deleting account. Trying to quit fails saying System Preferences is busy.
Can force quit, but account is still there.
I had an Exchange account that I had been using for years. Recently, I switched jobs, and therefore the Exchange account was discontinued (i.e. my user was deleted from the server, emails bounce). BUT I cannot remove this obsolete account from my System Preferences > Internet Accounts. It drives me crazy. Whenever I hit the "-" minus button, the account disappears, but whenever I open Internet Accounts again, it's right back in its place. Apple Mail keeps complaining that it "cannot connect to the server", but won't let me delete the account.

10 years of using Mac and I don't even know how to wipe my computer. I sold my computer on ebay and have backed up all of my important apps, docs and such, but I don't really know how to delete my user account. I know there's an option to delete accounts, but it won't let me because I guess i'm the only account on there. anyone know how I can make it so my computer is fresh and clean for the next user?

I bought this Macbook Pro (10.6.3) second hand and the user account was the name of the guy I bought it from. I'm tired of always seeing his name pop up when I have to access my Home folder and since the only way to change that is to create another admin profile thats what I'm going to do. Once mine is up and running I will delete the old account but first I have a question. Is there a way I can transfer over things like my Admin accounts and History, My Applemail email addresses and history and my Firefox settings, plugins etc., without having to duplicate them?

Apparently, there is an automatic log-in in her account that has conflicts because whenever the computer is turned on, after the gray apple screen, the screen turns totally blue. I have tried booting up in safe boot (pressing shift key at startup)and get the following message:

After typing any login, I get a line for typing password but nothing types in the line of password and I keep getting a fast message of incorrect password and the screen goes back to blue and then back to the same darwin line. I have an administrator account on this computer and no combination of logins and passwords seem to work. I have also started the computer with command key + s key and gets into single user mode and is in the root. From there, I do not know how to delete her user account to eliminate the problem as I am not able to get into the computer bypassing her automatic log-in. I do not have any startup disks for this computer as it was donated as a surplus from the school. It is a G3 operating on Mac OS X and I am not sure if the version is 10.3
I chose to delete a new user account that came over as part of a migration from my old MBP to a new MBP. It was a firly large account but it is taking way longer than the time it took to migrate over. There is no progress bar or time estimate so it's hard to know what's going on.

Like I know how you can change the user name in system pref. but how do you change the name next to the little house icon? Alright, this is possibly the strangest bug I've ever encountered on my mac. Right now, in my System Preferences, the Accounts pane won't load. Every other pane, including custom ones, works fine. But if I click on the Accounts pane, it chills there saying "Loading Accounts". If I click it again, it pulls up an empty pane. Also, under the Sharing pane, if I go to SMB sharing and click "configure accounts", nothing happens. I assumed it was permissions, but that didn't fix it. I did a full disk verification too, and that didn't help. The pref pane is there, I have read permission for everything, and the .nibs all open up in Interface Builder fine.

I was working on a iMac running Snow Leopard, trying to change the home folder of the previous owner, call her Kathy, to the new owner, Barb, because Barb needs access to all of Kathy's folders, email, etc.
Right now all I have in Users is Admin. Barb's account is appearing in Groups, not Users. And I'm not sure if all of Kathy's data is in Barb's account.
How do I get Barb's account back into Users?

I've noticed in different threads around here that some folks talk about having an admin acct while setting up a user account for person use. What's the advantage to doing that vs just using the admin account for everything? Since wife and I now use separate computers, I'm trying to do everything possible to keep this thing running as smoothly and efficiently as possible for as long as possible!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have created an account for my wife under Lion and I cannot get her user preferences for scroll bars to work. I set them to show always but the next time she logs in they revert to the previous setting---based on input. I can watch it happen with the preferences folder open and set to show a list sorted according to modified date. As soon as I close the system preferences, it reverts.
Her account is an admin account so it should work, don't you think. My personal account works fine and I tried moving the prefernces file to her library/preferences folder. No good.

I have a macbook with OSX 10.5.7 and 4gb ram. Having fallen victim to the current scare tactics out on the web, I downloaded and installed PC Tools's iantivirus. All went well with install. About half way through the initial system scan, iantivirus hung up and locked my system. I had to do a hard power off with the power button. Now, my mac will not boot past the Apple logo. I don't even get the spinning wheel. I have booted to my install disk and ran disk utilities and everything checks out ok. I reset the pram and removed the battery and power supply and held the power button down for 10 or so seconds. Nothing. After several minutes, the system restarts and the cycle begins again. I cannot get into safe mode.

My original user account had a problem when upgrading to Mavericks, so that i don't have to re-install and run the risk of bring the issue back when reloading I thought that if I could et access to my pictures and files from my new user account then i could just delete that account.
I'm wary of upgrading to The new releases until i can sort this out.

previously i have a problem for unable to login after my MBP hanged and restart.
i search online and found a solution to it which is to remove ATIRadeonX1000.kext . however by doing this there is a lot of inconvinent for me.
so i would like to ask if there is anyone here who has got a better solution?
I noticed that System Preferences, App Store no longer shows a padlock at the lower left hand corner, yet other System Preference windows show the padlock. Why is that? Is there a way to restore the padlock? I have already tried "repairing" my install and the padlock did not come back.

I don't know why but, I cannot change the option of scroll bar in General, System Preferences. Every time I turned it to "Automatically based on mouse or trackpad", it always changes back to "Always" the next time I launch the System Preferences.

I am using a mid 2011 iMac 21 inch running Mavericks 10.9.4. Processor is Intel Core i5. Memory is 4GB 1333MHz DDR3. I have had a HP Color LaserJet 2600n connected since I bought the iMac new in November 2011. The printer continued to work after I upgraded from Lion. Thinking that the printer was not working I recently deleted the drivers. It simply turned out that its USB cable had become disconnected. I have since tried to reinstal it through Printer and Scanner Preferences but the iMac does not recognize it. The HP driver download page offers drivers for Lion but not for Mavericks, even though a (different) HP summary page of available drivers claims that that 2600n is supported by Mavericks.
