OS X :: Some Internet Sites Do Not Load On My IMac?
Oct 3, 2009
I just got a new ISP and I seems that sites such as facebook, YouTube and even google fail to load more often than not. They wok fine on my wife's windows laptop but not on the iMac (even in my windows partition). I suspect it's an airport thing but it could also be the router (billion wireless).
I've tried three different browsers (safari, firefox, chrome). Here is a copy-paste of the ping to facebook.
Ping has started Ping: cannot resolve [URL]: Unknown host
I've got no network software running in the background (other than dropbox), and I don't think I've set up a custom DNS. Not really sure how to check what it is. This is an on and off thing, sometimes facebook loads, sometimes it doesn't. Using computers connected to the same WiFi, I can freely access Facebook with no issues.
I just upgrades my iMac to snow leopard. I did not see this problem right away but about a few weeks later. My computer is really, really slow when I surf the internet. But it is not slow consistently. Sometimes pages will load immediately and other times it will tell me I can't open the page due to the server not being found? I really don't know where to start looking for a problem.
Could I have a virus?
Could the Airport just be getting old and starting to fail?
Do I have too much info on the computer already and that is effecting something?
Could it be the Snow Leopard?
Could someone hacked into the modem and is jogging the bandwidth? ( I don't have the wifi locked but live in a pretty rural area)
Frequent reader of Mac Rumors but I finally joined as I searched a few threads that had similar issues but didn't create a solution for me. Essentially, certain web sites will not load on my mac after a while. When I first got it and subsequently formatted and reinstalled the OS (due to the same issue I'm having now), this issue did not happen.I have a Mac Book Pro, OS X 10.5, 15.4" and other than this software screwup problem, everything runs like a dream.
Here is what happens: I browse many websites, download files, normal computer usage, and after a while certian websites instantly don't load. A classic example is [URL], which didn't load the last time I had this issue, in addition to [URL], which also didn't load the last time I had this issue. BOTH of these pages used to load fine. The pages instantly go to a "cannot find server" error, on safari, and firefox. However, on parallels, the pages DO load on XP using firefox and internet explorer, although I could have sworn they didn't the last time...which may end up being the case as time goes on.
I have no spyware, firewall, or other network software on the machine. I DO have peer guardian but the problem persists even when I have quit the program.Restarting does nothing. Honestly, I must have done 50,000 google searches on this issue, and different people have different solutions to similar problems (permissions, etc), but this is something new, because the pages used to load and no do not.
I am trying to change my DNS on the DNS tab of the going through System Preference/Network/Advanced/DNS tab. However, the current DNS are greyed out and I can not overwrite them. After watching a host of videos and going to the local Apple store, I see that I am the only one that has this problem. It is as if the IP address assigns the DNS and locks it. Is this correct?
When im at home, wordpress sites do not load up on my macbook pro. It doesn't matter which browser i'm using they simply never load. there are no error messages. this happens whether i am connected via wifi, or wired into the modem. its the same thing.when i am away from home on another internet connection the same pages load perfectly.other computers in the house, including my friend's macbook pro can load the same sites perfectly also. it makes no sense.I have tried to empty the cache's, checked my security settings to make sure there are no firewalls or anything, but nothing has helped. anyone any ideas of anything else i can try or why on earth this would be happening. i really need to use wordpress on a daily basis from home!
It just started today. I tried opening a site inside 4shared.com and it won't open. It worked yesterday but it doesn't work today. It gives me a blank page and kept on tittering the entire time. I already updated my Mac's software. Nothings change.
I formatted a G4 powerbook for an intern at the company with Tiger installed, with all the latest updates. But somehow, our company website won't load in Safari or Firefox. There is internet connection, all other websites on that laptop I've tried works. We have 15 other PCs / OSX and our website works on all of them, except for the powerbook.
I am trying to work on some school work on my online classes. I can log into the main website, but everytime I try and load one of my class sites it keeps saying There is a problem with your authentication, possibly due to inactivity. For your safety, you have been logged out and must sign in again to continue. When I go back to the main page though, and refresh it I am still logged in and nothing has changed. It does it for all four of my classes and I'm not sure what to do...
My MBP is connecting to what ever internet source I need (i.e. wireless or wired) and is getting assigned a IP address. But when I open up firefox/safari every web site says "unable to connect" and then when I go into my wireless utility I can ping say google in 40 ms with 0% packet loss... I don't get this. I have tried resetting my p ram, I have tried deleting all the internet connections and starting fresh... hard wiring to my internet source.
It seems to be happening on certain pages, but a lot of different internet sites. Could it be the internet? I ran a virus scanner (XCLAVE or whatever the name of it is) and it came back clean.
I keep getting a hung up while going to internet sites . I keep getting this log note:ImportError: Bad magic numberin /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.3/lib/python2.3/string.pycI have Comcast as a provider and I'm running 10.4.11 . Can someone help?
I have a MacBook Pro that I got for Christmas, and ever since yesterday the Internet won't load on it. I've tried on my other computers (PCs) and the Internet is working (I'm on one right now). I've ran diagnostics for my Mac and it says everything is alright concerning the Internet, but if I try to access it it loads about 1/8th of the way and stops and stays there for hours. I've tried updating my Mac, but it won't connect to the Internet to update it.
I have a 2011 Macbook Pro. My wi-fi is great, but I have a problem with connecting using my computer. I can connect to the wi-fi network in a second, and the internet will work fine for let's say 3-5 minutes. Then everything just stops loading. I have to turn off wi-fi, turn it back on, and re-connect to the network just for pages to load again.Â
Today, I've been having a lot of problems re: browsers loading pages. Sometimes, it'll load them partially/mostly, but images won't load. Other times, Safari/Chrome/Firefox will redirect me to Google. Still other times, the browser will say it can't reach the server.
I've tried restarting, repair permissions, and emptying the cache, and restarting the browsers many, many times. Usually one/some combination of these things will fix the problem temporarily, but it keeps coming back. Additionally, no matter how many times I repair permissions, problems crop up in System/Library/Java and System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework .
I've just redownloaded the Java Update 3 for 10.6, and I'm installing it now. I don't know if that'll fix it, but I'll update if it does. I'm running 10.6.5. The only thing I've noticed that changed before this problem started happening was my update to Safari 5.0.3. I have an aluminum iMac.
My computer is connected to the wireless internet, and other devices such as my brother's laptop and my cell phone are connected and working off of the internet fine. However, my computer is not loading webpages, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. It just all of a sudden stops and the blue bar won't go any further. I tried running the safari under the guest account and it worked fine.
I manually put a couple of sites into the top sites area.. but then even after 'pinning' them into the sites area, they disappear when i re open safari.. it's really bugging me. can anyone help me out with this?
how I can speed up my internet. [URL]is says that I have a 10.71 mbps download and 1.34 mbps upload but for some reason my internet is always slow to load web pages etc. There a quite a few internet connected devices in my house (up to ten (iphones computers, xbox), but not all being used at once of course, with 2 Airport Extreme base stations.) Is this an interference problem or what?
I tried ringing apple but unbeknownst to me my warranty has expired so wanted to see could I fix it before using money that was intended for my new iPhone. Right, so yesterday I used a friends o2 dongle and I was asked did I want to save internet settings, I said yes - not knowing what I was saving (silly silly).
I had to do work at my old college but was unable to connect to wifi. Went to the IT lads and they fixed it - sort of - I could access the Internet but no sites that required a log in eg gmail facebook.
I am now at home and on my iPod typing this as my Mbp won't connect to the Internet! It was connecting to the wifi provider, have full signal but won't load the pages. I know it can't be the wifi as my iPod works fine.
My macbook wont load any web pages. It is connected to my wifi network and it says my Internet connection is good under my network settings. All my other devices on the network have no issues (ipad2, 2-iPhone 4's and 2-PS3s). Also when I connect my MacBook to my router with an Ethernet cable it loads any and all web pages instantly. I also tried installing Firefox thinking it may have been an issue with safari. No luck there. The issue was intermittent at first and would require I restart my computer/router and then issue would be corrected. Now the internet wont load any pages at all. I also tried zapping the PRAM, flushing the DNS cache, removing files from the system config folder under Library/Preferences/system configuration and a few other things I can't exactly remember. My MacBook is up to date, my routers firmware is up to date. I even tried tethering my MacBook to my iPhone via wireless Internet and still could not load any websites.
Info: MacBook (13-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I'm going to try and keep this as simple as possible. Last night I went to use my imac and for some reason every wed page I would try and go to either wouldn't open, would time out, or would load so slowly as to be almost no use at all. I reset my modem (I use a wired, ethernet connection) and everything was fine with the internet connection (or so it seemed) because I checked to see if I was able to torrent for instance and that worked just fine. The problem seemes to be based solely around browsing the internet (using both safari and chrome).
I haven't been able to get Safari to load any page for hours now. My internet works fine because I can get email and load Firefox but Safari is my primary browser. I have restarted Safari, my wifi and the MacBook but still will not work.
When newly launched Safari 1.3.2 it launch fine but refuses to access any sites accept apples. It simply crashes with a dialog box asking to contact Apple ( to date no response ) The unit is an Imac 600MHZ with 1G of ram. The issue is a new one. Have had no trouble in prior weeks accessing similar sites.Â
I have the 2 wire AT&T router, connected to my time capsule via ethernet. The internet is super slow. I have 12mbps on my account and speedtest.net says I am getting 10mbps. But the internet is loading slower than that. if I try to open two pages at a time sometimes it says failed to open. and I can never just type google, I have to type google.com. I've cleaned all my mac's systems and added 68.94.156.1 and .157. to all the mac's airport DNS settings. What am I doing wrong? I can't call bc they don't seem to know anything about time capsules, airports, or mac's.
For about a week or so now, my Safari has been loading webpages incredibly slowly. It will often display the message 'server cannot be found/reached'. I have absolutely no idea what's causing this. I know it's not my actual connection, because I can play World of Warcraft with an average latency of 60ms, and direct download large files at a speed I expect.
I just bought a new iMac yesterday at the Apple store. I connected it at home to install a few programs, and the internet worked perfectly. (I also own an older iMac plus a unibody Macbook.) I go to the office today, and the wireless and ethernet cables connect and show bars, but fail to load any pages off the internet. All of the other computers in the office are PCs and connect perfectly fine to the internet using both wifi and ethernet cables. It's just the iMac.
Here are the stats: Configure IPv4: Using DHCP IPv4 Address: 192.168.2.102 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Router: 192.168.2.1
I cannot log into any sites such as this forum with it although the username is right. comes up with a red line underneath it and tells me the username is not correct when selecting login. Im getting this on everysite that has site logins simular to this site. The ones with the separate pop up box are fine.
Also i can#t import any downloaded movies off the internet into imovie although i've used my pc to convert them to mp4 iphone.
