Recently purchased a macbook air and facing frequent internet disconnection issue when the macbook goes to the power save. Once after the interrupt i found the internet connection was no longer alive.

I have the problem that I need to frequently power cycle (shut off and on) my dsl modem to maintain a reasonable speed with my internet connection. It is making the internet experience pretty user unfriendly. Does any one know whether there is a way to optimize my internet connection such that this is not required so frequently (couple times a day)? I am on my second dsl modem, and the same problem has occurred with each of them. ATT simply advises me that my solution is to power cycle the modem to sync the system, whatever that means.

I have a new (June 09 model) 15" MacBook Pro, 2.66 GHz and I'm experiencing frequent (every 3-5 minute) drop outs on my wireless internet connection, but only when I'm running Mac OS X-- my Windows Vista Ultimate partition is operating flawlessly. After Googling, I have come to the conclusion that this is extremely common in MBPro's since there is such a saturation of search results?
Background on the wireless networks used:
- home: 128-bit WEP-open
- work: WPA2-Enterprise
Again, I haven't experienced a single disconnect when running the following:
- Vista - wireless
- Vista - wired
- Mac OS X - wired
I'm using my G5 for both personal use and work so it's on all the time. It has worked flawless with this same hardware config for almost 2 years, but for the past week or so I've had about 4 to 5 kernel panics or complete system freeze a day. This happens when doing web browsing, Final Cut Pro editing, playing a game etc, so basically I can't pinpoint it to a specific application, or to a piece of hardware I've added. I have ran REMBER to test my ram and all seems fine.

I have an older iMac, 2006 white version, running leopard. I am one of the many people who experience semi-frequent freezes which forces me to manually power the machine down. After much research it seems everyone has diagnosed the problem has hardware, specifically the graphics card running hot. I installed smcFancontrol and have ran it for four to five months. Since then I have experienced maybe 4 or 5 freezes, but the freeze occurs while doing nothing "heavy", just browsing in safari or chrome. Has there been any updated or new information concerning this problem? I have scanned the web a little and can't really find anything really recent. The most recent article/discussion i have found is roughly a year old.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Why won't my computer let me save anything (pictures/documents) from the internet. It tells me I need to save as a .webarchive and then says it cannot be exported. What can I do?

Every 5 to 10 minutes, my MBA "seems" to disconnect from the internet, although according to my Mac, it's still connected and shows my current IP address. I know it's not my router (Dlink DIR-624) because everything else stays connected. I don't have a problem with my Dell laptop, AirPort Express (used only to stream iTunes to my home theater), iPod Touch or either of my iPhones. The problem only occurs with the MBA.
Renewing my DHCP Lease fixes the problem for a couple minutes, but then I lose connection again.
I have four external drives connected to my MBP: One USB 2.0 drive, and three that are connected via FireWire 800 (they are connected "in line", i.e. one is connected to the MBP, the second one is connected to the first one, and the third one is connected to the second one).For several months already, I experience the following anomaly:When an external drive hasn't been used for a while it normally goes into sleep mode and the otherwise turning disks come to a standstill. The problem, however, starts when I want to use the data of one of the "sleeping" drives (e.g. by opening the Finder): Then one or more other drives, that are also in sleep mode, but used to come back into "active" mode in the past, are suddenly disconnected. MAC OS X then displays the message that a disk has been disconnected without being formally ejected (via the dustbin). This is not normal, of course, and I am afraid that this behaviour could harm the disks health and live time.I have tried the Disk Utility Tool of OS X for all the drives mentioned, but they seem to be ok.

I tried using the guide (the sticky at the top) to re-install OSX on my MBA 64Gb to save space, but I don't have the option to take off a lot of the stuff I don't need.
For example, I don't see an option to not install Garageband, or the Printer Divers. Anyone else have this problem with the new MBAs? I get the option to not install Additional languages, but that only saves me 1.22GB.
Can someone tell me how I can uncheck some of the of the other stuff that the guide shows here:

Putting her MacBook Pro/Maverick to sleep works fine, but when she raises the lid the Wifi connection is broken, and cannot be acquired unless she reboots. Does a switch exist for this anywhere?

Nor can I print a pdf from the internet, instead it prints blank pages. It used to work fine. I know that this is not a problem with the documents I am downloading because I have no problem saving and printing the same files from a Dell computer.

When using PC, WINDOWS warned about not to disconnect USB/FW connected hardware until you ask the system to do so and the system confirmed it was safe to do so. However, I've been told that with Mac you can directly connect/disconnect the cables without any previous confirmation from the system. I'm confused, since I can not find how to get confirmation form the MAc that it is safe to disconnect the USB/FW.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe other day my friend gave me his old macbook saying that it was broken and would only turn on sometimes. I have had this computer for 2 days and it has never turned on yet. He kept the hard drive so the machine does not currently have one. He also could not find the Mac OSX install CD, so I don't have one either. The battery is fully charged (the lights on the bottom of it are all on) and the light on the adapter is green. When I push the power button, nothing happens. No lights, no noise, nothing. I called apple and they told me that without a hard drive, the only way to test it would be to boot off of the Mac OSX disk by holding "c" when the computer is booting. The problem is, 1, I don't have a disk, and 2, how am I supposed to hold the c key while the computer is booting if it will not turn on? I have tried everything it says on the apple website and have tried it with different ram, with and a usb hard drive plugged in.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI am considering getting a used MB Pro for editing home movies. OK, its not Final Cut Pro stuff, but this will be the most demanding thing I use the computer for. In the past I have used iMovieHD and iDVD to make movies on my 12" PB G4 with a 1.25 GHz processor and 1.5 GB of RAM and ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with 64 MB or 128 MB (not sure which). This has worked fine, but I can tell its a little slow. I certainly can't plan on doing anything else at the same time.
But, now the previous generation MB Pros are going for $1000 (used or refurb) on eBay and I am considering getting something like a 2.4 GHz / 2 - 4 GB with a 256 or 512 MB Nvidia 8600 graphics card.
My mac goes off as soon as i disconnect from power. Is the battery dead or some fault in power?

I've got a strange problem with one of two internal HDD on my PowerMac G5. All of a sudden, it disappears from the desktop with an error message about improper devise removal. I've checked the cables: everything is like it should be. After restart all drives are back at the desktop. But it keeps happening fsck didn't help. I'm running DiskWarrior right now. What could it be? Both drives are quite new Seagate 7200.10, I think... Not older than 1 year.

I plan on buying a dell ultrasharp 24" monitor and keep it in the office that way either one of us can go and plug our laptops in and use it at the desk. View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a new macbook black that is not covered under warranty, the magsafe fried on it and it used to boot up but not charge the battery or show any signs of power from the magsafe so then I bought a new magsafe that connects to the logic board and replaced it and when I plugged the power adapter in it tried to turn on right away and then the fan spinned and the sleep light light up then it shut off right away and I didn't smell nothing from the macbook or logic board. The battery now charges and the light on the magsafe adapter lights up so I tried to turn it back on and it doesn't the same thing turns on and then right off just the fan spins and then the hdds spin lasts for like a sec or two. I tried to turn it on with the battery out and with just the battery in nothing swapped the RAM same thing went from two 1 gig sticks to 2 256mb sticks and then tried another two 2gig sticks same thing then I tried a different hdd and have the same thing happen? What I need to do to get this working and yes I tried a google search and every1 ended up taking it to apple and I cannot do that.

As soon as I disconnect power supply, it works for 10-15 minutes and switches off. Not sleeps, but suddenly turns off completely. The system battery indicator drops by about 10% (showing 85-90% battery charged), whereas 4 out of 5 LEDs are lit on the battery itself. After such a sunned switch-off, I'm not able to start again the laptop - it doesn't react on Power On button - like the battery wasn't inserted at all. Right after I plug on power supply back again, everything gets back to normal and I can use it normally, but still only if it's connected to the electricity.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting (all networks), although they continue to be available on my iPhone, Mac Book Air (OS X Lion 10.7.3) and another PC. I have to reselect the network manually in the shortcut (top right of the screen), a few seconds later I am connected again. The problems seems to be related to inactivety on the iMac. For example if you are reading some pages, without any key strokes or mouse activity, but there does not seem to be any specific time for repeatability of the problem. It is just anoying. My family owns two MacBooks and an iMac. All of these computers share the same internet (a wireless Bell EWire modem (which probably doesn't tell you much...)). My MacBook and my father's iMac connect easily and have connected to the internet for as long as we have had these computers (a few years). The other MacBook has connected up until a few weeks ago (it is a year younger than my MacBook). A few weeks ago, when the MacBook was closed (put to sleep but not shut down) and reopened, the airport symbol would display a working airport and connection but when I clicked Safari, it would not connect.

When I turn off mirror image however (IE effectively having two seperate screens) my internet slows down drastically. In some cases it also disconnects. This issue is resolved by turning on the mirror screen button, or unplugging the cable from the laptop.
