I have a MacPro (Intel), and I had my Music folder on a second (non-boot) internal drive. That drive was getting full, so I bought yet another internal drive to put in one of the other bays, thinking to copy the folders to the new, larger-capacity drive. So I bought a 2 Tb drive and transferred all my MOVIES to the new drive, but then went back and deleted my MUSIC folder and emptied the trash. I knew immediately that I'd made a mistake.
I haven't written anything to that drive whatsoever from that moment on, so absolutely nothing should have been over-written. I have plenty of room on the new drive to which I can recover the deleted files. Unfortunately the folder/directory was very large, with over 20,000 files, mostly of podcasts/spoken word stuff, much of which is no longer available or would represent thousands of hours of download time, plus all my digitized folk music from long out-of-print LP records.
You'd think I'd be more responsible with >600 Gb of data! However, fortunately the drive is in good working order, it just requires a good recovery strategy. I know that services that do recovery charge a fortune, and because I haven't written anything to that drive and it still mounts without problems, I'm hoping I can do this myself with a good data recovery software package. Because I am talking about literally thousands of files, it is just too painful to think about editing all the metadata about each file (name, artist, album, etc.), and ideally I would like to recover the files and the file structure so podcasts are recovered as such, etc.
Is this at all possible?
If so, what are the relative merits of File Salvage vs. Data Rescue vs. Kernel for Macintosh (Nucleus Data Recovery) vs. VirtualLab Data Recovery vs. Stellar Phoenix? Is there something better than these--these are the only ones I found on a Web search. Are there any head-to-head reviews of which someone is aware?
I was using a program which opened my console and then I noticed in my console had messages referring to a couple of programs I removed a long time ago by dragging them to the Trash. It seems to be reporting thousands of messages every minute for one of the programs with the message "User or app not found." recurring.
This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?
What's a good program that will let me see everything on a drive that's been deleted? Accidentally lost some video files on a shoot and am trying to recover them. Tried FileSalvage but it doesn't see MXF files.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just deleted one folder size of almost 5gb. Was full of personal videos. So they are not like small size of 10k pics. There were like 40 videos in total. What is the chance to recover them in good condition? And with which app. would happen best? I just downloaded 2 apps, stellarphoenix and Mac File Recovery. I started stellar and it is taking forever to search the hard drive. I tried the MFR for like 10 minutes it seemed a little faster but the videos and most of the files weren't in good shape.

Is there any way to re-create a deleted recovery partition in Lion? I've read that you can download Lion from the App Store & write it to a USB using the Disk Utility.
I am currently dual booting with Mac OS X Lion (10.7.4) and Windows 7 (installed via Boot Camp).

Under Trash I have 'POP Account' and 'On My Mac'
When I select a message and press delete I get a warning saying:
The message ... could not be moved to the mailbox Deleted Messages POP Account
The destination mailbox Deleted Messages POP Account does not allow messages to be moved to it.
I can drag a message to the 'On My Mac' folder and select delete and this removes the email - but seems wrong.
This is my first mac (first day), im used to a deleted message going to a bin which you choose to empty as and when.
I can't move deleted messages into trash anymore. Why?

I made my first Apple ID about 10 years ago on an email address that I have since stopped checking and don't know the login anymore. When I was trying to update my ID to my newer email so I could start using iCloud, it wouldn't let me without verifying it with the old email that I can't check. When I figured out how to just verify using security questions instead, it won't let me change my ID because apparently somewhere along the line I listed my current email address as a recovery email address. It won't let me use this email because it is also listed as a recovery address, but I can't figure out how to change that.

So far today, we've got about 10,000 new messages in our mailbox but they're all old ones that were deleted long ago. If we try to delete them now, they come back again.

I have been cleaning up my Gmail account through the web browser the past couple of days, I have over 6000 messages spanning 8+ years (I know, that's terrible). When I delete or archive a message in Gmail web browser one one computer, and then go back to my main computer where I use Mail, it still shows over 7000+ emails and doesn't seem to be syncing (or deleting) the messages I have done on the web browser side. It is set up with IMAP and syncs new messages fine. It even deletes new messages that come in and are deleted, just not these old ones.
Do I need to delete the account on my Mac and recreate it? If so, should I also delete all mail contents in the Library Mail folder?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo right now I'm in the process of replacing my current 24" iMac with a new 27" i7 iMac. I'm trying to get everything ready to move all my old files over to the new one. The problem I'm having is I just sold my current iMac online and I need to format it and get it to its new owner before I will have my new iMac. Which I wont have until next week. So I dont think i can use the migration assistant, right? I'm thinking I just need to move everything over to an external harddrive. I've moved all of my itunes files onto it and all my photos. But I'm not sure how to get things like all my email messages that are on this computer on there. I would like to have all my email messages on my new iMac. Can anyone help me accomplish this and let me know anything else I would have to do or know during this transition?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been getting other peoples mail for a little over 3 weeks now. Here is the deal:
My Email Address: gmbean@xxxxxxxx.xxx
I Receive A Message To: gamboawilmer@xxxxxxx.xxx
There are over 50 senders and it seems that it is a computer that is making these messages. There are huge misspellings and what's worse is that these emails are all sexually orientated. There are no pictures! But I didn't sign up for anything and I just started getting these emails all of a sudden. Each email sender is different (different address) and I have made over 30 rules in Mail Preferences to simply delete any mail from the sender(s) But I get a couple new senders every day. I' am going to have over 100 rules if this continues!
Messages are coming into my inbox in duplicate.

I have started getting bounced email messages showing my main Apple ID email address is being used to send SPAM to people I don't know. Does this mean that I will have to change my main email address? If I mark them as Junk Mail, will that affect my mail?

I'm trying to create a workflow in Automator which will basically:
- Fetch new email messages
- Filter the messages so only ones with a certain sender come through
- Take the attachment from these and save it in a folder
The following workflow works perfectly for it:
- "Get New Mail"
- "Find Accounts in Mail"
- "Get Attachments from Mail Messages"
I have experienced some problems with my email account recently which I think it is a spam attack. I've been receiving lots of spam messages and got my all messages in my inbox deleted. Sent items luckily are still there.
I wonder if there is anyway that iMail keeps copies of incoming messages so I can restore them. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me how to do that if its available.
