OS X V10.4 :: Transfer Old Email Messages From A Powerbook G4 Running 10.5.8?
Apr 18, 2012
I need to transfer old Email messages from a Powerbook G4 running 10.5.8 to a newer iMac running 10.6.8. I can move the messages from Mail Library into the newer Mac Mail Library (via home wireless network), but when I open Mail program on the new iMac the Emails don't show up in the Mailbox I transferred them to. I can see the messages in Mail Library and even read them if I double click on the message, but I can't see them in the Mail program.Is there a compatibility issue between Leopard and Snow Leopard?
Well my macbook pro penryn has finally shipped out of Shanghai, and as that's real close to Singapore, the next two days will have it in my hands.
So I need to transfer my user from my current powerbook g4 (which I will sadly miss) to the new mac. I wondered whether going from PowerPC to Intel what the best way to go is.
Should I totally trust the migration assistant, even though I know I have things on the powerbook which aren't intel, or should I take an opportunity to build a new machine, pulling in my documents and downloads folders, and then redownloading things I actually use and setting them up from scratch? Does anyone know the options which Migration Assistant gives you (ie basic information, all document, all applications, ... etc), or is it just all or none.
For mail I have everything on IMAP, I think I want to just set up a new account and re-import everything. That sound right?
I need to deauthorize iTunes from this machine, I'm up to 4 in the house already.
My temptation is to build from scratch and lose 4 years of cruft, however I'm sure I've also customized things in the past (like AFP mounts) which I no longer quite remember what they were.
I installed 10.5 on a G4 powerbook and then decided it ran better with 10.4. Can I downgrade to 10.4 and still have all the applications installed? I don't want to reinstall a bunch of applications.
I like to have all my music in ITunes which is in my Powerbook G4 10.4.11 transferred to the Imac OSX Lion 10.7.3, so I can then sync it to the IPhone. Since I am not able to go directly from the Powerbook to the IPhone.
Info: iPhone 4, iOS 5.1, Powerbook G4 10.4.11 and IMac OSX L
So right now I'm in the process of replacing my current 24" iMac with a new 27" i7 iMac. I'm trying to get everything ready to move all my old files over to the new one. The problem I'm having is I just sold my current iMac online and I need to format it and get it to its new owner before I will have my new iMac. Which I wont have until next week. So I dont think i can use the migration assistant, right? I'm thinking I just need to move everything over to an external harddrive. I've moved all of my itunes files onto it and all my photos. But I'm not sure how to get things like all my email messages that are on this computer on there. I would like to have all my email messages on my new iMac. Can anyone help me accomplish this and let me know anything else I would have to do or know during this transition?
I have been getting other peoples mail for a little over 3 weeks now. Here is the deal: My Email Address: gmbean@xxxxxxxx.xxx I Receive A Message To: gamboawilmer@xxxxxxx.xxx
There are over 50 senders and it seems that it is a computer that is making these messages. There are huge misspellings and what's worse is that these emails are all sexually orientated. There are no pictures! But I didn't sign up for anything and I just started getting these emails all of a sudden. Each email sender is different (different address) and I have made over 30 rules in Mail Preferences to simply delete any mail from the sender(s) But I get a couple new senders every day. I' am going to have over 100 rules if this continues!
When I transfer large amounts of data over my Powerbook's wireless, I lose my bluetooth connection to my keyboard. Also my wireless signal decreases. Is there some way to fix this? I'm trying to backup a drive to my windows pc in the other room.
My PowerBook has been working extremely slow for the past couple of days. Restarting hasn't helped. Even though it's about 5 years old, it's never given me any trouble. Now I wanted to start FinalCutPro, and there's a popup saying: Configuration Error This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing. 512MB of RAM.So I can't even start this program. It's really an emergency since I have to work with FCP
I have a Powerbook running OS 10.2.8 All of a sudden, my trash just won't empty - anything, locked, unlocked, anything at all. I've reset permissions, still, nothing. I did manage to empty my trash via a program called Cocktail, which I know some of you guys are familiar with, but it is striking me odd that I just can't empty the trash the good old fashion way.
I recently bought a DVI-HDMI cable to connect my Powerbook (see sig) to my Sony LCD tv. THe Sony's max resolution is 1366 x 768 (pretty much standard for HD-ready tvs). I've been trying to get my powerbook to output that resolution so I get a full screen picture on the tv. However for some reason I keep getting stuck with 1280x720, which leaves some black bars all around.
I'm using SwitchResX where I input the resolution as a custom resolution. I then restarted as the software suggests, but it doesn't let me apply the resolution.
Don't say VLC. VLC chokes this machine to death. 95% CPU usage. Frame rate is one per second. AVI files need to be played. Are there any codecs I can use with Quicktime v6.5? Or how about a different player? Quicktime seems to run smoothly on this machine. .MOV files play nicely. DVDs play fine. Can't do flash unfortunately.
Hey all. I have an odd question for you guys. My friend's PowerBook G4 crashed hard yesterday and she had to reinstall OS X (she lost all her stuff). She has 10.3, but she is having a hard time finding apps that will run under it. I did some research for her and found that her system should be able to run 10.5, which would make life a lot easier for her as just about all apps run under 10.5. The one problem with this is I am not sure if her system can handle it.
Here are the specs she gave me: PowerBook G4 1GHz 512MB RAM
Does anyone know if this is enough to run Leopard well?? ATM she just need something that will get online, download torrents, and play DVDs. She is a musician and she has composition software that ran under 10.3. Not sure if it will run under 10.4, but ATM she just wants the system back to "useable" condition.If she can't run 10.5, she should be able to upgrade to 10.4 right? She will have more trouble finding apps that are compatible, but at least it will run better then 10.3 does.
I need to print some stuff off of my old PowerBook that runs OS 9.2.2. The stuff is only accessible by music software running on that old Mac. My impression is that my up-to-date printer can't print from OS 9.2.2. I've got an old, portable Canon printer that I used to use with the PowerBook when traveling, but I can't get that printer to even power up. How do I print my stuff?
I have started getting bounced email messages showing my main Apple ID email address is being used to send SPAM to people I don't know. Does this mean that I will have to change my main email address? If I mark them as Junk Mail, will that affect my mail?
I'm trying to create a workflow in Automator which will basically:
- Fetch new email messages - Filter the messages so only ones with a certain sender come through - Take the attachment from these and save it in a folder
The following workflow works perfectly for it:
- "Get New Mail" - "Find Accounts in Mail" - "Get Attachments from Mail Messages"
I have experienced some problems with my email account recently which I think it is a spam attack. I've been receiving lots of spam messages and got my all messages in my inbox deleted. Sent items luckily are still there.
I wonder if there is anyway that iMail keeps copies of incoming messages so I can restore them. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me how to do that if its available.
I have created months ago a mail folder which automaticly places "spam" messages, and recently when I try to delete the messages from the folder , they become greyedout and cant be deleted.
I booted up this morning and went to check my email. The top of the email window shows "Inbox - (8 messages). However when I click on "Get Mail" even though I see the "wheels" turning, no mail shows up. I have had this iMac OS X Version 10.5.8 for 5 years now and this is a first.
Every time I try to delete a recovered message in my email, it returns to the recovered mailbox. I've tried moving it to the junk mail and deleted mailboxes on my server as well as aol. Why won't it delete? It's blocking my incoming messages!
I noticed over the summer that I was no longer receiving e-mails from my church. I am very involved, so I need to be able to communicate with various staff members-- but multiple attempts to correct this problem have failed:
1) we have verified that they have my correct address;
2) I have added all the relevant addresses to my Contacts and designated them VIPs (whatever that means);
3) I have checked my settings and I do not have any filters that should be blocking these messages;
4) the messages are NOT in my Junk or Trash folders!
I'm going on a day long driving trip with my kids later this week and I kludged together a good solution of bungee cords to hold my titanium PB to the back of a seat so I can play movies for them. I got a Sony car inverter that seems to output an appropriate amount of power for the PB. On a test drive around the block with the DVD running, the PB seemed to get pretty hot, but otherwise worked fine. Is there any reason why I shouldn't go ahead with this setup? Anything I'm likely to wreck?
I created a new account on my iMac so that she can use my iMac. I deactivated her email account in Mail in my account and activated it in Mail in her account. (Using 10.5.7 and Mail 3.6). She can send mail but not receive mail. If she sends me an email from her account, I can get it when I log in to Mail in my account. However, when I send an email to her, it is sent - but nothing shows up when Check Mail is clicked on her Mail. (If I reactivate her account in my Mail and click Check Mail, I can receive the messages that should have been sent to her account - but I don't want this to happen!).
I just spent an hour Googling how to do import my Outlook 2007 email messages to Entourage 2008. Everyone kept recommending O2M by Little Machines. And while that seems like a bargain for $10, I wanted a free solution.
