I have a new MacBook Air and an IPhone. When I send text messages on my iPhone they seem to show up in Messages on my macbook. I don't want my texts to be connected to my Macbook . What steps do I need to take to make sure my text messages only stay on my iPhone.Â

I was using a program which opened my console and then I noticed in my console had messages referring to a couple of programs I removed a long time ago by dragging them to the Trash. It seems to be reporting thousands of messages every minute for one of the programs with the message "User or app not found." recurring.
This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?
Messages work great between my iPhone 4 and my MacBook on OS X, except when I send a picture message from my laptop. These don't sync to my iPhone conversations.Â

Does the new Messages Public Beta allow screen sharing like iChat did? This is important to me as I use it to provide support to my 84 year old mother, who has been a Mac user since 1986.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI deleted my recipes file by accident. I just looked one day and it was gone. I had moved it from my document file to the desk top because I couldn't figure out how to create a shortcut for that file to eliminate going through all the steps to get to the file. Now, it is gone. Who the heck knows how that happened, but it did. the steps to recover those recipes. Most of them are written in the PAGES file extension, so the DOC recovery system I used didn't see any of my PAGES files.

I am currently using automator to make folders named after the large numbers of images. I have everything set up and its working great but I am trying to make it more efficient.Â
The images follow a filename structure such as:Â
bmz12345_black_1.jpg
bmz83762_blue_3.jpg
bmz83762_blue_1.jpg
bmz09990_yellow_5.jpgÂ
I strip the filename to just the first part of the code eg "bmz12345" and make the folder from that.Â
However, In order to do this I have to create a dummy text file or folder somewhere named after the fulle code (bmz12345_black_1) and then strip it down (bmz12345) set a varible of the new filename and then create the folder in the desired location with the right name.Â
After getting the name of a finder item, Is it possible to change the text that is passed to it without creating a file out of it first?

After deleting one of 2 admin users on my MBP (Lion), my other computers still see both users listed on the home network. Mostly it's just annoying, when I can simply ignore the "ghost" user name, but in one case my oldest imac is confused and can't connect to either users. There must be some way to delete preferences or otherwise get the network to "reset" its list of MBP users? (It's is a basic Airport network with an Extreme plus an extending Express.)Â

How can you show a list of contacts (or buddies if you're using another IM/Chat like Yahoo) that is docked in, connected to, separate column or sub-window of the main Chat window...
I looked through all the Menu bar items and preferences and didn't see a single thing. If I activate my Yahoo chat profile/user a floating window pops up, but I can't find any info regarding combining the 2 windows / showing all info in 1 window.

I have thousands of text files that are named with random unique numerical ID in a specific folder. The problem is I want to be able to do quick sort of the files by a category. The category of each text file is always written as the fourth line of each text file. I would like to write an Applescript to append the fourth line of the text file onto the file name with a underscore in-between. (i.e. Category_1235678.txt).

So I updated to Yosemite and everything was going fine, I had my FaceTime, Messages and Contacts apps working away fine with my iPhone, was having no problems but in the last week or so the three apps refuse to open, I've tried restarting and even holding down alt-cmd-p-r after turning on but no good.
I've also just noticed that when I click on 'About this Mac' from the apple menu on the top left of the screen the window that usually comes up refuses to come up. Which I find quite weird and not sure if this is linked with the problem of the apps not opening.

I am a bit desperate because I accidentally deleted all my phone contacts using iSync. Previous to the sync I had my contacts in my mac address book, but I deleted them to make a fresh list from my phone. Therefore my address book was empty when I did the sync. I thought that the contacts from the phone would be copied to the computer. But instead, when I did the sync all the contacts from the phone were deleted! I did a search in google and found that the version of Address Book under Tiger kept a file called ddressBook.data.previous that contained your contacts before the last change. But I cannot find that file in Leopard. Does anyone have an idea of where that file is? Or does anyone have a suggestion about how to recover my phone numbers?
