View 4 RepliesI am using a MBP 17" (2010 model). The trackpad functions very well under Mac OS/X.However, under Windows Vista 64-bit, it does not behave as if it were under Mac OS. For example, even I did not click on the trackpad, it did it by itself. Is it a driver problem or setting problem? I know that under bootcamp, we can change the trackpad settings. If it is the latter case, could anybody please let me know the configurations/settings that allow the trackpad to behave exactly the same it does under Mac OS/X?
View 12 Replies View RelatedOK, I run a MacBook 13in, OS 10.5.8 with the superdrive that came with the machine.
Really, I'm not stupid, and I actually do successfully troubleshoot stuff usually..
However, I am baffled as to why I can not access the DVD-ROM special features on my Disney DVD movie discs. (I actually installed Interactual Player for Mac thinking maybe I needed it, but I can't say it helped.)
I can play the movie, and my son can play the games, but their are printables on the disc that when I click on them it tells me to access these features, , insert your disk into a DVD-ROM drive.... OK, As many of you already know there is is only the one disc drive on this computer... I tried searching in the "folders" of the disc for any file format I thought would open in another application ( say a txt, doc, html, xml, etc) but none of those are the printable pages supposedly on the disc. I even tried to use my husband's PC (GASP!) but got the same answer.
I can't find anybody else having these issues. I installed the Chrome beta a while back, and it's been updating itself since, but I need to finally get extensions working - I need my Adblock (Digg is completely unbearable without it). I read about the method to enable it weeks ago, just install the dev version - agree to the EULA and download. I did that, and overwrote the existing copy of Chrome. I didn't remove any other files. I still can't install extensions using the bookmarklet - it enables the install button, but I receive 'Extensions are not enabled' immediately after the download tries to start. The other thing is, the dev version is supposed to include the bookmark manager. That's also nowhere to be seen. Chrome says I'm running version 4.0.249.30 and that it's up to date. Any ideas? Do I have to completely remove Chrome before installing the dev version (i.e. everything I've built up in my Chrome profile to this point in Application Support)?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook pro is only a few weeks old, and being it is my first Mac, I wanted to know if anyone has had any issues with the hinges on it?
They seem to be a little loose, in which if I move the system, the screen will move at times. Is this normal? I am not sure how loose the hinges should be
what the new top line features are?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro and want to have and use the same keystrokes and contextual menu items on both but they are different - on my MacPro I can hold down the control key and easily send out an email with the selected pdf or whatever = no such on my MacbookPro. Is there an easy way to have the same functionality on both machines??
Info:
MacPro, MBPro, MBAir & Aperture3, Mac OS X (10.7.2), iPad and iPhone4
I was wondering if there were any apps/hacks out there that *I can't believe I'm saying this* give similar "window Snapping" functionality that Windows 7 offers?
View 26 Replies View RelatedHere's what I gathered so far on the new Airs.
Good:
More RAM - up to 4GB. At last.
Flash storage across the range - faster to resume from sleep, faster in general
11.6" also available - at least there is a choice of sizes
Beefier graphics chips - will now drive the 27" Cinema Display natively
Stereo speakers
Glass Trackpad - though you may not prefer it
Higher resolution displays
+1 USB port
Improved battery life (TBC)
Reduced thickness and weight
Not So Good:
No more backlit keyboard
No more bundled USB>Ethernet adapter
Still got display port/audio out/magsafe on different sides of the chassis
Unknown:
Have they fixed the hinge problem?
Have they improved the cooling design?
Are the edges still quite sharp on your wrists?
Is the display fully glossy or like the old ones?
The only compelling feature for me over my revC is the 4Gb RAM. Not worth the cost of upgrading.
I tried Safari 4, but I still prefer my Firefox addons. The addon I'm specifically looking for is a way to get the "top sites" page into Firefox. I think I remember seeing this at one time, but I can no longer find it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have installed ubuntu on a partition on my uMB and I am having trouble getting some features like two finger scrolling and right click on the trackpad as well as getting the bluetooth to work to be able to pair with my wireless mighty mouse. Also the speakers do not work. My priority is getting the bluetooth to work because If I have a working mouse the trackpad won't really matter. When I try to pair my mouse with the bluetooth I can see it but when I enter the "0000" passcode and click connect it says connection failed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to rip a certain section of the "special features" disc that came with the original movie. The original movie is on the first DVD, and the second disc is all the bonus material. I tried ripping the special features disc in Handbrake, and I only got part of the bonus material, and not the material in particular I wanted. I've looked through all the source titles, and they only show part of the features. How do I get to the features I want using Handbrake?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a little confused of some of the options with Westmere. I was reading the features page on the Mac Pro site and Apple states:Westmere is available in both quad-core and 6-core versions, and the Mac Pro comes with either one or two processorsI thought Westmere started at 6 cores in a single processor configuration? I then went to the tech specs page and under "Processor upgrade options", it only shows the quad cores as "Nehalem".So is there such thing as a Westmere quad? Or is this just a goof up from Apple? If there is a quad version, might anyone more knowledgeable in processors know what might be a predictable BTO price would be from Apple? And if this might use the newer 1333Mhz RAM?
View 10 Replies View RelatedThere are a zillion notes programs available but I'm looking for one that has several specific features:
1. A hotkey to open it up.
2. Ability to tag notes and sort by tags.
3. Ability to print.
I want to be able to quickly capture ideas while working and come back to them later.
So far, I have noticed that in Safari 5.1.4 Google maps doesn't work correctly. Whenever I enter directions from and to locations, the site just sits there "Loading." It works perfectly fine in Firefox on the same account on (and running while Safari is). Also, a random error is on TrueAchievements.com, everytime I go to update my status, I get a little box that says something went wrong. Again, it works perfectly fine in Firefox running side-by-side. I haven't run across any other problems, but it wouldn't surprise me if I do at some point. I have tried disabling extensions, just in case, but that solved nothing. Is this version of Safari just broken or is there anything I can do?

what is the best browser to use on Mac OS X Lion if I need to access Webmail (OWA) and use features like "Mark as Unread" that are not available in Safari? Some basic features are just not available to Safari users, but I'm hoping they'd be avilable from other browsers.

Does anybody have a good free text editor to recommend for OS X?
Basically, I want something that's developer friendly, with as many of these features as possible:
1) Colour syntax code highlighting (ex Java, C, Perl, HTML, etc)
2) Column select mode
3) Line numbers
4) Character numbers in line
5) Regular expression search and replace (grep)
6) Line wrapping on/off
7) Tabs or equivalent
8) Diff between files
I have MacVim and it does most of this, but the interface could be improved a bit.
If no free editor does this, I'm willing to consider TextMate or BBEdit.
I would have liked a camera, ability to watch anything on-line and multitasking, of course, Apple can't add a camera this time around but they can certainly keep their pulse to the ground and add features via software. I also wonder, like those hackntosh groups, that since this is more of a computer then phone, if that community will develop programs? Which begs the question, why not release it from Apple if it's something the consumer wants and make a few dollars from Apple while doing it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI switched to a MacBook Pro 3 months ago from using WXP with Outlook 2003.
I need to be able to hold my outgoing mail rather then sending it immediately. In Outlook I could set it to stay in the outbox until I was ready to send it.
I'd also like to have the "capitalize the first word of each sentence" feature that Word edit would do in Outlook.
I am presuming neither of these features are in iMail so my question is: Do I need to buy Outlook for Mac or Office for Mac to get these 2 features?
I'm usually just a reader and not a contributer here at macrumours, but a few days ago i watched Machete, Robert Rodriguez's new movie. Amongst all the exaggerated violence, I couldn't help but notice that Jessica Alba's Macbook Pro in the movie has many of the new design traits as the Macbook Air. The most noticeable of these is the white surrounding around the screen. This discovery alone prompted me to register here and post this. Here are three snapshots from the movie to prove my point. So could this possibly be the design for a 2011 Macbook Pro release? And will this mean the new MBP will sport MBA features such as instant on technology?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been using the Textmate demo for a few days and I like it's code folding and macros, but I wish it had an auto- autocomplete and tabs. I tried Komodo edit too and loved it's features; however it has the clunkiest Interface of any editor. I have never been a Dreamweaver fan, but if it has macros I will shut up and use it. I think I am, going to email the developer of Textmate later, because it really is a very nice editor, but it is lacking some needed features.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am perfectly happy with my MBA, but I must admit that I like to always have the "latest and greatest". The new MacBooks look great, although I haven't seen one "live" or had the opportunity to get hands on with one yet. If I buy a new MacBook, I give up the form factor, but gain the processor power, features, etc. Also, it will really feel like a new computer because of the different appearance. Since I like the MBA form factor, I was thinking of just upgrading to that. The problem is that it won't even feel like I got a new laptop, because visually it would be identical to the one I have now. In fact, the reduced battery life may not offset the benefit of larger HD and improved graphics. Dying for a new laptop though... what are you other MBA owners thinking?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got a new MacBook Air and I went to set up my Mail just as I had on my old Mac Mini. I have a Yahoo account that I have paid for the Plus! features. I should be able to just have it automatically find the settings and then I should just be able to get email, right? Wrong. I thought maybe it was because I was also getting the mail popped onto my Blackberry but even when I turn it off, I still can't get a single Yahoo email. I've had this email address forever and don't want to change, and don't want to have to forward messages.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems I have to go a roundabout way in order to connect to the Internet using a USB Dial-Up modem. I thought you could double click on the Safari icon on the Dock and get connected to the Internet. But every time I try to do this, the Diagnostics page keeps cropping up. The only method I have found to get connected is thru the Network folder under System Preferences, which to me is a backhanded alternative to what should be a more direct means by clicking directly on the Safari icon. Is there something wrong with my Internet set-up causing this run around? Also, I am unclear as to whether my 20" screen is setup properly?
Is it true that in order have the sharpest screen readout/visual appearance and still cover the complete display area that everything seems actually smaller than when compared to a 17" inch display usage (which is the size of the LCD monitor I am using with a Power Mac). Finally, what is the best source to find out all about my iMac & its features? The documentation sent is very scant. Aside from the petite booklets (with same information repeated on the computer), is there any extremely pertinent guide I am overlooking that comes with the computer? Any other major sources?
I cant change effects while I am recording a video. I seen other people do it that have macs. I Cant find the bubbles effect or letters effect. Is this only available for macbook pro? I just have the macbook.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI love my new mac mini but I miss paint. I used it alot for simple editing, such as resizing an image, cutting in it and maybe add some text.. stuff like that. I cant really find another program that does the same things in a quick and simple way.
also, how the hell do I take a snapshot of the screen when there's no print screen button?
I just got the new Magic Mouse delivered today. I had to update OSX, it installed fine, but right now it is only working as a regular mouse. The Apple tutorial shows a separate "Mouse" tab in System Preferences to add one touch click, scrolling etc. (like the trackpad option), but in my system preferences I only have a 'mouse and keyboard' option which will only let me adjust mouse speed, but not add on the features of the mouse.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am tempted to jump on getting a new Mac Pro now instead of waiting. Primarily because i dont want to be priced out of getting the higher end model with more cores. If they do come out with a 6 and 12 core config. i would want to buy the 12 core but a lot of rumors around here and on other sites say that the new models will likely come with a price increase. potentially leaving me having to buy the 6 core model. 8 core current Vs 6 core future This makes me think i'll just get the 8 core current. BUT Are there any features that apple may add that would blow the current models away. USB 3.0, BluRay, etc. I can live without many of these things.. but perhaps i am missing something.
