Software :: White Screen Stands On Start Up / Logic Board Failure?
Oct 4, 2009
OK, so I did something truly stupid. I managed to splash water on my macbook. I hit a small cup of water (about 2 oz) with the end of the computer with the CD drive. It immediately shut off. The next day, I set it outside to dry in the sun and by midday, all was well. It functioned just as it always had. This continued through last night. This morning, when powering on, all I got was a white screen (no tone). After doing powering up while holding command-alt-r-t (a sequence I found on a help board), it will now make the tone, but maintains the white screen. I am slowly accepting that I am an idiot and the computer is probably a loss. Multiple internet searches have suggested it is either the logic board or the hard drive (at the very least). Any ideas?
My dad is a computer programmer, but does not use macs. He looked at it and just shook his head. I am very non-computer savvy (I know how to turn it on). He did say if it is the logic board I should be able to retrieve all of my (non backed up) files on the hard drive. He said he really doesn't think that it is the hard drive.I also am learning that it will probably be cheaper to replace than to repair. However, I am willing to try anything which might help.

First Mac Attack, must say I like working on these things, I'm working on a friends late 2004 ibook g4 that seems to boot up fine, but with lines across screen exactly like this one found in google images. Most of the info I've come across seems to point to a logic board failure, but also have seen posts relating to LCD failure. wondering if any here have encountered this and what eventually found was problem. This ibook is litterally on the verge of just being replaced anyway. I'm only working on it because It's a first, and believe the education is valuable.

2008 mac-book pro, started having these warning screens come up by which it states that i have to turn off/ restart ( only option as no other controls work). These became more frequent until yesterday i turned it off as per warning to then restart but now it wont turn on at all.
All that happens now is that when press the power button the fans come on for about 5-10 seconds and then it just all abruptly turns off, the screen stays blank and there is also no start up sound either.

My primary MacBook is suddenly now powering up - Tried the power management reset....removing battery/power and attempting restart after 12 hours and so forth. Does this sound like Logic board? Is there a chance the HD data can be retrieved if it would be installed in another MacBook or...if Logic board is repaired?

i need some advice on what to do next, my Intel 24" iMac has failed, diagnosed as a faulty logic board by the Apple Genius. I purchased the iMac in Dec 07, and I deliberately did not purchase the extended warranty as this is a desktop unit, that in 20 months of ownership has never been moved, dropped or transported anywhere.
I have no option than to either pay for the repair - 380 or sell on eBay for spares...!
I informed Apple about the Sale of Goods Act, and they have put the owness on me to prove it was faulty from date of purchase...! They have informed me that I need to visit an Apple authorised service centre where they will run a test and produce a report, which will determine if the fault was there in the first 6 months of ownership.

I was just wondering if anyone could help me with this. the iBook that I just inherited from my aunt, (She got a new MB) was working yesterday, whenever the power shut-off on it. (It has a power issue on the logic board, and if it comes unplugged it dies, even though it has a new battery.) so she went to work, and attempted to power it on, it came up, and the apple was on the screen, and the spinner came up, nad it spun for a very long time, eventually the screen flashed, and turned blue, and the spinner came again. After around 15 minutes, she was given the kernal panic screen. She held down the power button, and restarted, only to come up with the old finder face, and a question mark. I rush over with my disc's, and load up the disk utility. It was repairing the disk, and about 3/4 of the way through, it had an error. So, I rebooted, and we got an apple, and it repeated the previous situation, and gave the blue screen, followed by a kernel panic. This time I ran the hardware test, and it says that the logic board passed, but there was an issued with the harddrive.
At first disk utility could find the hard drive, and it reported it as being a 2 TB drive!!!!!!! So I got suspicous about that, and after the hardware test, the computer was reporting that there was no hard drive in the computer at all. we know for a fact that the drive was either 50, or 80Gb's, (90% sure 80) My question to you is: Is this the hard drive that has gone bad, or, is it the controller on the logicboard needing to be replaced?

I got a late 2008 MBP and recently my logic board got exchanged due to my graphic card failure. However, since the work is done, a very annoying problem occurred. When I put my hand on my palm rest (right side, the hard ware side), it sounds like I am squeezing the whole thing down and it will make some very wired noises. It sounds like cracking or sth. I bring it in apple store twice and they said they do not hear anything. Anybody have a idea about this issue? Thank you very much.

My iMac G5 is basically dead. Logic board failure. Apple is going to replace it by giving me a credit toward the purchase of a new iMac but that is a different story. I need to send my G5 back to them. Can I take the internal hard drive out and transfer the data to a PC and then get that data off the PC onto an external HD?

Laptop suffered wine spillage, now it won't boot up. Cleaned the logic board (+ gpu/cpu/heatsink) with isopropanol, rinsed with electronics cleaner (electrosolve), but still won't boot. There are some visible signs of oxidation, very very slight. Magsafe connector works, ac adapter light only comes on when connector is connected to motherboard. Also the motherboard gets slightly warm to touch when power is plugged in. When ac plugged in, the macbook won't start up. Couple of questions:
1) Anyone have a diagram of the a1181 logic board? (2.0ghz, core duo)
2) Anyone know how which pins to short on the keyboard connector to power up (in case the keyboard is the problem); remember reading it was the farthest left pins, can someone confirm?

so i've got a system with a fried c2d board. i can pick up a cd board for $150 plus shipping which is good for me. to find a comparable replacement, i'm looking at ~350 and i'm just not feelin that price as im on a budget.
i'm not concerned about the speed decrease as im just trying to get this thing rebuilt.
i understand that there are different heatsink assemblys..vertical vs horizontal. however, i do not know how to tell the difference and i am also unsure whether or not my c2d heatsink will work on this board i receive.
the logicboard possess a t7300 c2d and model # is 820-2279-a, it appears.
i cant find anything on that model, except for on ebay.
and i totally cant find the serial number on this macbook. under the battery on the tray has no serial number listed, and i've read through this documentation [URL]

I have a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro A1286 that I accidentally spilled water in it in my sleep while in Iraq. When I realized what I’ve done the computer had shut down. I picked it up from the ground and it was soaked with water. I didn't try to turn it on, left for about two months to allow it to dry. I was afraid to charge it up but I pushed the power button to see if it will turn on but it didn't. I open the bottom cover and it looks like there was a burned spot on the logic board. My MacBook came with I5 but I replaced it myself with a I7 logic board. To test the hard drive I took it out and put it in and external enclosure and tested it with a window based computer by installing a Macdrive on the windows HP computer and it was working fine. Now I have put my MacBook together and when I powered it up, the apple logo is on the grey screen and a little circle as if is loading up but the nothing happens. I tried that reset trick Command, Option, P and R but it's still doing the same thing.

I purchased a 1.33 G4 14 inch ibook exactly 13 months and eight days ago. The logic board is toast as of today. i.e. flashing colors and flickering screen. I took it back to where I purchased it and many other apple items {powermacpac it Portland Oregon}...and I was told that it was a $600 dollar repair...unbeleivable...I now have a $1050 dollar paperweight. I called apple support to find out if they would fix the computer since we were so close to the warranty end date. n the end...I shoulda bought applecare.

I'm looking to get this titanium powerbook but it has a broken screen, possibly bad backlight? I can get it for a good price and I would love to have it to replace my ibook. I don't know the specs for sure but I am positive I think it's the DVI version since it has the keyboard that looks like the ibooks(same placement for the keyboard release latches). The guy said it worked fine on an external monitor but just recently he said it won't boot now and it now makes a high-pitched whining sound. Anyone know what that is? I'd like to use it as a headless mac until I locate a new screen for it.

My iMac chimes when I press the start button but the screen doesn't come on. It's making a whirring noise so it's doing something. There's a DVD in it but it won't come out when i press the eject button on my keyboard. The iMac also doesn't show up on the network of my MacBook which it usually does. I was having a few problems earlier this week with the screen doing strange things - occasionally turning off, then coming back on. It was suggested that it might be a dying logic board but I tried a Apple Hardware Test this morning but it said no problems found. I have some files backed up but desperately need to get some recent documents off it [I know, I should have backed it up more often ]. Is there any way to get access to the files on the hard disc?

8 month old MBP 15" i7 4GB RAM 500GB HDD, took it in last week to get the logic board replaced (computer wouldn't boot up) and now it is running fine, although at random times the display will go haywire and I am forced to restart the comp (manually). Why is it doing this? Do I need to update something? Is it related to the new logic board at all?

So last December my laptop got smashed and everything works except for the backlit screen. In fact I can still use this laptop it is just extremely hard since the screen does not light up. The person that smashed it ended up buying me a new laptop so I have this beat up (and I mean the shell is destroyed) laptop with quite a lot of functioning parts.
Now a few weeks ago my girlfriends Grandad spilled a beer on his brand new 2010 Macbook. The logic board is shot so it is almost cheaper for him to buy a brand new laptop.
Would it be possible for me to take the logic board out of my 2008 Black Macbook and put it into his 2010 White Macbook?

I'm somewhat new to the forums, and found a really good deal for a brand new macbook air (rev.1). I'd like to know if it is possible to replace the logic board in my macbook air with a newer, nvidia-gfx based logic board. As in, will it fit, does the same power supply run it, same peripherals (airport, keyboard, etc) work/interface with it, etc?

My computer won't turn on. Earlier today while playin music it just paused itself. I minute later it resumed. Then tonight it just shut off instead of sleeping and now it won't start. All I can get if I'm lucky is the start up chime and a super quick flash of a white screen.

Every time I restart my macbook it will take me to a blue screen and the mouse pointer will be in the top left hand corner of the screen. It will not start in safe mode. I've done the "fsck -f" I don't have a the snow leopard disk any longer, but I can of course obtain another if it is the only way to fix this problem. I'm at college, the disk is at home 8 hours away..and I want on my computer now. Sorry for my lack of intelligence concerning this issue as well as the OSX as a whole, this is my first Mac and I love it!

My MBP is looping on start-up. It goes to the white screen with the apple logo and that little wheel made of grey lines.
It just keeps spinning then after 30-60 seconds, it shuts down and restarts only do do the same thing again.
how I can fix this? I think I may have accidently deleted some system files. The last thing I was doing was deleting things from my Hard Drive.
