View 2 RepliesThe drive in my G5 tower will read/write commercial or blank CDs and will read/write blank DVDs, however, it will not read most commercial DVDs. When I insert them it tries to read it then after a few seconds it just spits them back out. Occasionally commercial DVDs will read and mount fine, but this seems to be rare.

Why is it when I insert a CD into the "slot" does my Mac not read it....it pushes it back out. I have the correct disc, I have verified that several times. I have also checked the System preferences and I have marked ask what to do when a disc is inserted, but for some reason I can't burn or read any discs. I am using a Macbook 10.4.11.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOk, on my Powerbook in sig whenever I put a CD in it stays in for about 20 sec and then spits it back out, but when I boot up with the CD in it reads it just fine. This is making me mad because I'm trying to install the Burning Cruasde, and it is four discs.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook will not read some of my cd's. They work in other computers so I know it is not the discs. It makes noise as though it is trying to read them then just ejects them. I ran the Apple hardware test but it shows no problem.Â

I own a Macbook Pro and today I realised that it wasn't reading any DVDs. It has read them before in the past but it won't now.
Whenever I put the DVD in it waits for a while making it's regular sounds and after about a minute it ejects it, doesn't even read the disc or anything.
I'm trying to copy from my Vista hard drive to my Mac hard drive. I'm getting rid of the Vista machine.
I took out the hard drive from the Vista and put it in an external enclosure that is USB attached to my Mac. The Mac is unable to read the drive.
I thought that leopard was able to read NTFS file systems?
It acts as if it doesn't even understand the partition table format on the drive.
Is there a simple way to get this to work? Does NTFS-3G help reading the partition table?
Since LION's installation and as a consequence the upgrade of QT player to release 10.1 I am not able to read any . MOV from my Canon Camera.I can perfectly watch it in iMovie or Aperture.

Just in the last day or so ive noticed that i'm unable to read certain emails. Headings and script appear as a series of A's. I've tried viewing them in different formats (view>message...) , text encoding and even rebuild. None of which has worked. I suspect i would need to re install the Mail app? Would this have anything to do with a recent installation of Microsoft Office?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using my MBA with an old Dell Inspiron laptop (running Vista) for the optical drive when necessary. I've installed software using remote disc with no problems (reinstall of OS, then Sibelius music notation software). I assumed I would also be able to read audio CDs or DVDs using remote disc, but every time I have tried this it doesn't work. The connection is fine, but the MBA is unable to find the data - one message I've had says it cannot find the original source (or something like that!). Does remote disc only work for software? Or might there be a way around this? I don't particularly want to use iTunes on the Dell as it's set up with my wife's account and even plugging my iPhone into it got it all confused.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk now I have a problem now with my PB. I upgraded to Tiger (bought from Apple.) I now can't play DVDs! When I was running Panther I could pop in a DVD and the DVD Player started up. Now with Tiger, I put in a DVD It mounts on the desktop (like any other cd.) I can still burn and read cds, but can't play dvds.
View 6 Replies View RelatedLately I have received quite a few e-mails with various attachments that seem to require something other than quicktime to open. In most cases i get a message that says "Quicktime unable to read format" or words to that effect. Just wondering what other downloads there are out there that enable you to read more of the different formats.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThey have no in-built readers so I have tried as follow - 3 different USB external card readers (1 plug-in and 2 cabled), 2 different cables, 4 different cards (2 of each), and all of their combinations on all USB ports on both computers. All to no avail. Cards won't show neither on desktop, Finder, Disc Utility nor Image Capture. Â Mind you though, SDHC card will be seen by iPhoto (and iPhoto only) if it's plugged directly through the camera or printer/ scanner. Only it's a bit annoying process having to use it just to read the card! Not to mention the use of iPhoto (which I don't, normally) just to transfer images through it to their destination. I work with a lot of images, videos and music, and not having been able to transfer them smoothly makes my work a bit of a nightmare.Â

I have my iMac and PC connected to each other through the ethernet. The iMac is set to read/write the shared network volumes on my PC. The Finder is used to set up the SMB connection. Everything works fine. Mac applications are able to read and write files to the PC.
However, after a day or so (during which the PC has been kept on, while the Mac has slept) problems occur. It seems as if it is possible to access the network volumes and even view the root directory. However, clicking on any directory will show a blank directory.
I'm a longtime PC user who just got a macbook. I copied all my picture files to my macbook and opened up iPhoto. I used the "Import to Library" option to load all my pictures. I noticed that iPhoto copied all my photos to a Photo Library file under the Pictures folder.
Why does iPhoto make copies of the pictures and store them in a separate "file"? This makes it confusing because I have all the pictures that I originally copied but then when I'm in iPhoto, the program is actually accessing the pictures from this separate location.
- Is iPhoto not able to just read files from a normal folder structure?
- How do I manage/organize individual picture files if I'm not within iPhoto?
- How do I burn picture files to a CD/DVD if I can't see the individual pictures when not in iPhoto?
I have a problem with downloading files on my OSX partition. When using firefox/opera/safari to download a file, I often get an error "the source file could not be read, please try again later or contact system administrator" (Firefox) the other browsers just stop.
I tried repairing disk and permission repair, but no luck. Does anyone of you guys experienced similar problem or know how I can fix this? please let me know.
On my Mac, ALL of my emails have been marked as "read." However, while my AOL account syncs fine, my Gmail account's messages must be "read" individually on both ends.
