IMac :: Unable To Read USB Drive?
Apr 2, 2009I bought my 2.8 ghz iMac about 2-3 weeks ago . I went on of just before and the USB drive isn't responding. Which means mouse keyboard printer nuthing is responding.

MacBook Pro :: Super Drive Unable To Read Discs / Makes Clicking Noise
Nov 8, 2010I've been using this MBP since 2007, and, it's starting to fail me. I was using an external hdd on it since the internal one crashed, and, then the external one crashed. I just purchased a 250gig hdd which fits perfectly in my Macbook, but, now I have another issue that's been pressing me for some time that didn't bother me at all until now when I need to install Snow Leopard;
My Super Drive isn't reading discs at all, and, it's making this scary crackling noise. I uploaded a video on youtube of me putting 2 discs in it, 1 with content (World of Warcraft: The Frozen Throne) and the other without content (Just a blank CD).
Before I link the video, I'd like to note that I am apparently amazed by the laser seeing as how I point to it and make a note of it ._. URL
Software :: IMac Unable To Read Sony Cybershot Memory Stick
Apr 5, 2008I'm using an iMac OS X 10.2.8. When I plug in my Sony Cybershot (4.1 Mega Pixels) digital camera, the iMac will not read the ScanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo (512 MB). If I remove the memory card it will read the internal memory of the camera. When I first bought the memory stick it worked just fine but now I get these two error messages.
"A disk attempting to mount as Unkown has failed verification or has failed to mount. use Disk Utilities to check the disk and correct any errors"
Power Mac G5 :: Unable To Read Commercial Dvds / Tries To Read It Then Spits Them Back Out
Oct 17, 2007The drive in my G5 tower will read/write commercial or blank CDs and will read/write blank DVDs, however, it will not read most commercial DVDs. When I insert them it tries to read it then after a few seconds it just spits them back out. Occasionally commercial DVDs will read and mount fine, but this seems to be rare.

Feb 19, 2009I recently began using my computer again after having to replace the power supply. Since then, my computer has refused to read cd's. It doesn't recognize data cd's at all. For audio cd's my computer mounts them but won't play any of the files and iTunes won't play them either. When I try to play audio cd's in iTunes I can hear combo drive doing something. I'm not sure if this is a software or hardware issue.

Feb 7, 2010Ok so I have an 8800 GS imac, 3.06 intel core 2, 4 gigs ram. Running snow lepord. I need to resolve an issue where I can not get into OSX. At first I got error messeges saying my external HDD could not read, now it looks like its my primary drive because when I restarted I got the progress bar under the apple logo, indicating that something is wrong with the OS. The bar when to full 100% but then I got stuck at never ending spinning wheel. I restarted and no more progress bar but still the spining wheel of death. I really dont mind refomrating its just that I had some important text documents and other files that I cant get back without recoving them some how. How to proceed? I held down cmd v or s (i forgot) on startup and got a black screen with several problem statements. One reads the system boot strapper has crashed trace BPT trap.

IMac :: Unable To Transfer From External Hard Drive
Jan 12, 2011My new iMac is arriving tomorrow and I need to transfer everything over to it. I know about Migration Assistant, but I want to know if there will be any complications due to the data I have on an external hard drive.
Specifically, I currently have an older (white) iMac hooked up to two 2TB external hard drives. One if for backup but the other one has all my iPhoto and iTunes content on it, including about 1.5 TB of movies and TV shows that I have ripped. None of this material is on the computer's internal hard drive - it is all on the external hard drive.
Because my new iMac has a 2 TB internal hard drive, I want to transfer all the iPhoto and iTunes content currently on the external hard drives onto the internal hard drive of the new iMac. Will Migration Assistant handle this and will it be clear what I need to do?
IMac :: Unable To Work With WD External Hard Drive
Feb 16, 2010I'm praying someone can give me a miracle cure here but im pretty sure its a terminal case. i have a 24inch iMac 2.66ghz core 2 duo and a western digital 1tb external usb hard drive....this hard drive was bought a month or so ago with the sole purpose of store years and years of media to free up valuable space on my iMac hard drive....tonight without any warning at all the drive icon disappears from my desktop with an error message and now refuses to load, when i click initialise on the error dialogue box it takes me to disk utility.
in disk utility i have tried repairing disk and i get the message "invalid node structure". it then tells me it cannot be repaired and i need to re-format my hard drive.
as i said there is literally YEARS of info on this drive that i really really dont want to lose, is there anything i can do, or anything worth trying. as a side note on the front of the drive it has a capacity gauge and has gone from 3/4's full to not showing anything.
Desktops :: Unable To Eject Disk Form Drive On Imac?
Sep 2, 2010I'm using a desktop IMac 15" and have come up against a problem I can't solve. I selected the disk drive as the start-up drive. Put the wrong disk in the drive and it is unable to start the comp. Now I have a blank screen and cannot eject the disk.
This is the first MAC I've ever had that does not have manual ejection for the disk drive.
What can I do short of ripping the cases apart?

Sep 14, 2009Okay. So I had an Imac G5 (white) running 10.4 This one crashed and I got a new iMac G5 (Silver). Since then I have removed the old hard drive. Today I connected it to a Serial ATA - USB Converter. It powers up and sounds to be working fine (hums, spinning) but my new computer says "Disk is unreadable". It gives me the option to format, but I want to recover my old files first.
Important: I also have a similar Lacie external drive that I hooked up the same way and it worked fine. I was able to take the files off of it.
My guess: I believe when the drive is connected, it is trying to start up the OS (this was the start up disc). It has that click sound like it's trying to make the chime and then spinning like it's working. Can you change the drive to a "Slave"? Or is my disc corrupted?
IMac :: Unable To Recognize External Hard Drive / After Reformat
Jul 7, 2010Yesterday I reformatted my Macintosh hard drive, partitioned it, installed Snow Leopard on one partition and Windows 7 on the other. I installed all the drivers for Windows 7 from the Snow Leopard disc.
When I plug in my 1TB Seagate external hardrive it's not showing up in Snow Leopard or Windows 7. Not even in Disk Utility. I tried plugging the external drive into my Windows laptop and a pop-up comes up saying "USB Device Not Recognised. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it." I think that this may just be because it's formatted to Mac OSX?
The hardrive had all of my photos, videos and music on so I hope it's salvageable. I find it hard to believe that the hard drive malfunctioned at the same time I reinstalled the software onto the iMac.

Feb 25, 2010Why is it when I insert a CD into the "slot" does my Mac not read it....it pushes it back out. I have the correct disc, I have verified that several times. I have also checked the System preferences and I have marked ask what to do when a disc is inserted, but for some reason I can't burn or read any discs. I am using a Macbook 10.4.11.

Mar 2, 2009I have a G5 Imac and a G4 ibook. i want to use time machine, and have one external hard drive connect to both. I could get an external with more than one input (ie, usb and firewire)--does that work? Could i use a usb hub to connect the 2 computers to the HD, and set up different partitions?
And what of NAS? i do not want to set up a whole network (we already have one at my office, and i want this to be independent).

Aug 27, 2009I had a dvd in the drive of my imac and it had no idea it was there. it wasn't on my desktop and it wasn't listed under devices. I tried to open the dvd player, and it told me that there was no supported disc. After I ejected and reinserted it, it worked. Was this just a mac brain fart?

Jul 23, 2010So I tried to partition my 1TB Seagate main hard drive that's in my iMac, and twice my iMac locked up at the "Shrinking volume" stage. I tried to shrink it down from 1TB to 600GB and it not only did not work, my system locked up (I gave it plenty of time) to the point where I had to forcibly shut it down and a subsequent verification of the disk revealed that it needed to be repaired using Disk Utility after restarting and booting from my OS X installation disk, which worked just fine.
I decided to try again, because the first time, I had not restarted the computer in a while, so I thought I'd "flush out" any temporary files, cache, inactive RAM, and whatever else might have been in the way the first time around. However, this time, the screen simply turned off after 15 or so minutes. Once again, it got stuck at the "Shrinking volume" point and there was also no way to revive it except for a forced shutdown, which, by the way, I did by holding down the power button on the back of the iMac. Same story, I had to restart and repair the disk using my OS X installation disk, which resolved the repair issue.
One more thing. I remember that when I first received my iMac, I was able to partition the drive in order to add a volume for Boot Camp, which I formatted in NTFS right before my Windows 7 installation. All of that worked great and I was actually impressed with how flawless that whole process executed. Eventually, I decided that I no longer needed Windows 7, so I erased the partition and re-consolidated it with the main OS X partition, again, without any problems.
With all of that said, I'm not sure what to try next, but I would really like to create 2 additional volumes. I thought I would try using Disk Utility again, but this time, booting from my OS X installation disk. Then again I didn't want to chance it again, as I have not made any backups yet. I'm in the process of making a backup right now.
So what do you guys think? Should I try to do just that, using Disk Utility after booting into the installation disk? What do you guys think is the reason as to why I can't just resize and partition using Disk Utility after a regular boot-up like I was able to before? What else could I try? Any third-party software titles like I used in Windows? Acronis and Partition Manager come to mind. I'd rather do it in OS X, though.

Last night I put a +R DL DVD that worked in another machine and it just ejected it, I then put my 10.5 disc in and it worked fine.
