OS X :: Won't Remember Route To Files And Folders

Feb 12, 2010

I'm a bit confused, i've been using a mac for 4 years now, i'm a designer so use InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator day in day out. Opening and saving 100s of files a day.

Whenever i've needed to import multiple pictures, i've always been able to navigate to the folder I want to import from (through InDesign), place my selected picture and then the next time I try import a picture my mac remembers the folder I last imported a picture from.

Its the same if I'm saving multiple files from an email (in entourage), save the first attachment and then when I go to save the 2nd file it remembers where I last saved to.

Its been doing that for the best part of 4 years and has now stopped for no reason, every time I go to save a file, import a file, even "save as" it takes me to my "Documents folder" meaning I have to navigate back through the severver and several folders to get to where I want to save each time.

It's not a massive problem, just really annoying. Maybe i've changed a setting by mistake but can't see how or where for the life of me.

Mac Pro :: Route Mac Mail Through Specific Interface?

Mar 2, 2012

I am looking for a way to connect my Mac pro to two different networks and have mail traffic run through en1 and all other traffic run through en0. Basically our corporate email is on supported accessible on Network A, but the majority of the work I have to do is only accessible on Network B. So to get access to both I have to use two computers and a KVM switch. Not the prefered workflow. I thought about using a virtual machine, but then I'm using up a bunch of valuable system resources just to run Mail. Seems like I should be able to point all traffic for a specific IP address to route through a specific network interface, but I can't seem to figure out how.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: VPN Overrides Default Route?

Mar 14, 2012

I noticed my VPN connections overrides the default route set by my WiFi connection. With an active VPN I can browse my office network but not the WWW. When I type in terminal …

sudo route delete default
sudo route add -net default 192.168.2.1
sudo route add -net 192.168.178.0 192.168.178.201

… I can access (via VPN) my office network and can still browse in the WWW. Is there any way I can prevent to override the default route when establishing a VPN connection (IPSec Cisco via Network > Add VPN)?Maybe I can create an AppleScript or something like that?

192.168.2.1 = local network (home)
192.168.178.1 = remote network (office)
192.168.178.201 = remote virtual client IP

Mac Mini :: Ethernet Does Not Route Unless WiFi Is Connected

Jun 25, 2012

I am having the darndest problems with routing on my internal network, specifically with my Mac Mini Server which originally came Snow Leopard Server and was upgraded over the top (no clean metal) wtih Lion and Lion Server (10.7.4) Router is a Cisco/Linksys E4200 with firmware 1.0.04, but have had same problems with 1.0.02 and 1.0.03.Internal LAN/WiFi is defined as 10.0.0.0/255.255.255.0. Router is 10.0.0.1 and gateway. DNS is supposed to be served by the Mac Mini on 10.0.0.7, which also hosts my DHCP server to configure others on my home network.

With WiFi off on the Mac Mini "netstat -rn" returns essentially the same thing as on my Mac Pro (10.7.4 not-server) but for the MacPro at 10.0.0.3. In this condition the Mini will ping the MacPro and I can ssh between, through the ethernet switch on the E4200. The MacPro can ping the E4200 but the Mac Mini can not. The E4200 has some ports opened to forward to the Mac Mini. But, enable WiFi on the Mac Mini and suddenly the ethernet starts working through the E4200.

Sometimes I can change the static IP address on the Mini's ethernet with WiFi off and then it starts speaking to the E4200 and internet. For instance tonight I changed it to 10.0.0.8 and it didn't work. But 10.0.0.6 did. Moved it back to 10.0.0.7 and it still didn't work trough the router but it did work internally Mini to MacPro through the enthernet switch on the E4200.

Power Mac G5 :: Digital Input Route Through Headphone Jack Output?

Oct 30, 2007

I have my Xbox 360 sound out-putting through an optical digital cable to the digital input of my Dual 2.3ghz Power G5. My mac recognizes the signal but I was hoping I could somehow use the incoming sound to output through my headphone speaker jack on the front of my mac. Both my mac and xbox 360 use the same monitor.

I noticed it doesn't work that way. Is there a way to switch the incoming digital signal to route through my headphone port on the front of my mac? There has to be a way.

How To Route ITunes To Music Folders On External Hard Drive

Jun 14, 2012

i successfully rerouted iTunes so that the program would find my music library on external hard drive. Two days ago, my Apple MacBook computer was updated to the Lion operating system. iTunes was also updated. Now I have to go back into iTunes and give the program new instruction to go find the music files on external hard drive. My folder on external hard drive, called "iTunes Music," contains various music files and also, I notice, a folder called "iTunes." Within that "iTunes" folder, the following folders or files are located: [code] I do not understand any of this. I do not understand WHICH FILE OR FOLDER I should instruct iTunes to go to in order to find the desired music files.Once the desired files are found, they should appear in the iTunes window on screen. This is not happening.

I have tried holding down the Option key while starting iTunes, which yields a window that asks for me to CHOOSE LIBRARY. I choose the iTunes library file ( iTunes Library.itl) that is located on external hard drive. However, NOTHING HAPPENS. iTunes does not do anything. When the program opens, nothing is visible in the iTunes window, where normally songs are listed. No playlists on the lefthand side. NOTHING.

Applications :: How To Change Permanent Default Language

Oct 18, 2009

I've been trying to find a solution to this for ages, with no success. I'm not even sure it's possible, but I thought I'd continue to try. What I want to do is change the language setting in Pages permanently. I've had answers telling me about the language setting, and International Input menus and so on, but I'm familiar with changing the language setting, as I write a lot of documents in French and in German, but I write more in English, so what I want is to be able to permanently change the setting so that every time I open a new document, the language is set to British English.

What I am trying to do is allow renters to upload their photos to a shared folder (already set up). This shared folder would be a compendium of photos that renters have uploaded, and the background would change every 5 seconds to show off all the great pictures. Possible?

The next avenue I will explore is instead of using a guest account just creating a normal account for renters, but for obvious reasons I am wary of doing this

ITunes For Mac :: NO Permanent Content On That Internal Drive

Jun 4, 2014

My primary workstation is now a New MacPro (late 12013) so the internal drive is too small to store my iTunes Library. I have backed up the main iTunes library from my laptop to an external drive. But I will now be working mostly at the NMP -which is ethernet wired (as I often upload/dowwnload extremely large files)

I would like to designate the external drive as the main repository for the iTunes Library for the NMP. I see that many of my albums already reside in the iTunes Library on the internal drive for the NMP. I would like to free up that storage space and have NO permanent content on that internal drive.

I think that using the REMOTE APP is intended for WIRELESS usage. So, ideally (while working) I would prefer to access iTunes app from the NMP (which is also wired to a sound system) and choose CONTENT from the external drive. So how do I clear the internal drive of all iTunes content and use the external drive exclusively?

MacBook Air :: Stand In Case Till Get A More Permanent Replacement?

Dec 1, 2010

I was just rummaging through my cupboard looking for me certificates when I found it. And it fit's pretty alright. It will have to do for now. It a case for my Razer mousepad, the Destructor. It's hard on the surface and it'd do a nice job of protecting it over minor bumps but nothing major. What I like about it is that it's slim. When I first bought the Destructor mousepad couple of years ago, I remembered thinking the case would be a good case for laptops. Had a 15" HP that time and it wont fit. Not to mention, it was too thick. Well, I snapped a few pics. And oh, its a 13 MBA if anyone is wondering.

MacBook :: Potential [Permanent] Back-light Failure?

May 12, 2012

I got a 2008 MacBook that has a misbehaving backlight. Just recently, the backlight refused to go on for any amount of time.Toggling the brightness from (0) to (1) bar turned it on for varyings amounts of time lower than one second.I continued to toggle the brightness in this fashion to use the computer for a time.Occasionally, the screen would remain lit for a little over a second and dim again.I changed the power settings from power saving to performance and back to power saving. Then, I opened up Chrome and the backlight remained on.It still remains on, as I am somewhat unwilling to test opening and closing the screen.I can, however, now vary screen brightness fully.tl;dr - Backlight was finicky, but is now functioning normally.I suspect the backlight is going to malfunction completely in the near future.

PowerPC :: System Making Weird Noises / Permanent Spinning Beach Ball?

Apr 14, 2007

1.33 Ghz) has started acting up, and while I think I know what the problem is, I'd like some confirmation. The symptoms:

After starting the PB up, it runs for about 5 minutes before we get a permanent spinning beach ball. When the beach ball is up, I hear what sounds like (and is coming from) the hard drive. It sounds like it's spinning either way to fast, or as if something is wrong with it. All the open programs freeze, and we do a forced shut down. Also, the first time this happened, we had a song playing in iTunes. The song would play a 2 second clip, then stop, then start, and continue to stutter.

We've tried turning the computer off, unplugging the battery and the power, but it still does this.I think it's a hard drive problem, and that we need a new hard drive. Does this sound correct?

I think I've figured out how to log into it now (step one, right?), but I have to "manually configure my computer's IP address to a static address within the range of the extender" (like 192.168.0.XX) and then enter 192.168.0.30 into my browser. My question: how do I "manually configure my computer's IP address to a static address within the range of the extender"? I imagine that's in the Network settings pane.
