Software :: Mail App - Any Way To Quickly Copy Just Email?
Dec 1, 2009
I have been using MacMail for a month now, and I'm a bit confused by the written out NAME that always accompanies the email addy. When I send someone an email that says, "<Joanne the skinny lawyer Polson> joanne@law.com" does she see that I'm calling her a skinny lawyer? (as a way to remember people, I've been putting notes with their names for years. Maybe I gotta re-edit all of my contacts?)
Additionally, when I try to copy the email addy for a contact -- or copy a huge batch of 300 names -- mac so 10.6.2 copies the email addy AND the name! I want to drag 300 email addys into facebook, but it keeps giving me all the clutter of the contact as well. Even when I want to just quickly click on one email addy and export it to another app, it wont do it simply.

I have to restart my computer to illuminate the lag. Is the computer saving too much cache or other info?- What can I change in my browser and mail preferences to stop this.

Is there a way to copy all the e-mail addresses automatically, all at once, without having to highlight each one individually? For some reason LinkedIn cannot find my contacts, so I'm having to import them myself, and I'd like to avoid utter tedium.

If anybody can offer me advice regarding how to transfer my email from Microsoft Mail (a Vista program that is different than Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express)?
I have done quite a bit of internet searches to find an answer to this question, but so far to no avail!
Microsoft Mail on vista exports email files to a .eml file (I think) and not the .mbox files that one needs to import easily into Mac Mail.
I have a Max OS X, version 10.5.4 and the old computer was a Toshiba running Vista.

I am using Snow Leopard. An odd behavior has recently appeared. On some (but not all) occassions, when I send an email from an IMAP account, after the email is sent successfully (confirmed by a copy in the Sent mailbox), a second copy appears in the Draft mailbox.
The account is a gmail account (but @plessthan.com rather than gmail.com).
Of note, about a month ago (well before this started happening), I converted from POP to IMAP. To do this, I set up a new IMAP account in Mail, then rendered the POP account inactive.

I am trying to switch my email program from Thunderbird to the mac email program Mail.Thunderbird has been playing up a lot recently and am tired of the glitches.
I have all the correct server settings etc and succesfully imported my mailboxes. The problem is that when I send an email it isn't from the right email address?? Is this a Mail problem or smth to do with my settings? I'm with Virgin media and have a separate set of email address through my website for my business so my email address are through freeola that I am using through Thunderbird.I'm sorry if this all sounds very stupid but I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out where I have gone wrong!

I have a MacPro and MacBook Pro both running OSX 10.7.3. I recently changed my domain from register.com to godaddy.com. I have a five email accounts and when the domains transferred, mail could no loner access the mail on the old romain (hosted at register.com). SO I went ahead and updated the email accounts on my desktop with the new email login details. All of a sudden all my emails (some 15,000) dissapeared... So I quickly went to my laptop and turned all accounts offline - and sure enough all the emails in these particular accounts are still there...So the question is how to I get these emails from my laptop to my desktop? I looked for a manual on mail 5.2 and couldn't find one. I tried exporting the mailbox and only got a few of the emails...

My wife and I have 3 email accounts between us (1 personal one each and a joint email for stuff like banks and bills etc.) When we first got an Imac I set all 3 accounts up in MacMail and ran 3 different inboxes which worked ok apart from the fact that when sending emails we would sometimes mistakenly send our emails from the wrong account (eg my wife would send something from my account or vice versa)
this isn't a huge problem and with a bit of concentration would not happen, however it was inconvenient and needless to say I was kicked out of Mail and had to seek refuge in a copy of Thunderbird. (which I just can't to seem to get along with)
Since then I have been trying to find a way for 2 people to co exist in mail without using 2 separate accounts on the mac (this is not an option as the wife won't have it!!)
Is there anyway to run 2 separate Mail programs in one account?
If we do end up having to share one version of mail does anyone having any tips on reducing the likelihood of sending emails from the wrong accounts?

MBP, OS X 10.4.11, Mail v2.1.3.
I have more than one email account set up on Mail and the strangest thing happens and I can't find out how to stop it.
Here is the problem:
- I have 2 accounts, 'Account A' is for my partner & 'Account B' is for me.
- Someone sends an email to 'Account A' (my partner) and CCs 'Account B' (me) into the same eMail.
- If I click reply from 'Account B' it sends the eMail from 'Account A' which is my partner, when it should be from me.
I have worked out that this is because 'Account A' was originally sent the eMail in The 'To' field as opposed to the 'CC' field in composing the reply eMail. I know that I can manually change the 'From' field every time when replying to an eMail but it becomes an nuisance. I forget to do it when quickly replying as I consider Mail to reply from the account that I'm reading the email from.
I have gone to the compose section in the preferences and there is an option for changing this when composing a new email but nothing when replying.

There is a new bug that has cropped up in the Mac OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard version of Apple Mail, version 4.2. This bug was not present in Leopard's version of Apple Mail. If you drag a single email from Apple Mail out to your desktop, it makes a copy of the email message on your desktop. BUT -- if you drag multiple emails from Apple Mail out to your desktop, Mail does absolutely nothing. This used to be a very quick way to archive and/or export email messages out of Apple Mail, and it worked perfectly fine in Mac OS X 10.5. But you can no longer do this in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

I've just transferred to a new machine, I tried simply adding my e-mail accounts in and have had trouble.
So, I'm trying to copy the Mail folder in my user's library on my old machine onto my new machine.
I've placed them in the correct folder, when I open mail it's not loading my old messages.
Any thoughts on why it isn't working? Am I missing something?
EDIT: Aha! Success, I copied my mail.plist file (under Library > Preferences) onto my new machine as well.

Is there a means to copy all incoming and outgoing email through the Apple Mail server to one inbox? As an example, Bob sends and email to Jeff and receives a reply. I want a copy of each of those emails to, say, info@company.com. Is there a means within the server config or some other method to accomplish this?

Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)
