I have done quite a bit of internet searches to find an answer to this question, but so far to no avail!
Microsoft Mail on vista exports email files to a .eml file (I think) and not the .mbox files that one needs to import easily into Mac Mail.
I have a Max OS X, version 10.5.4 and the old computer was a Toshiba running Vista.

Jun 25, 2009I am trying to switch my email program from Thunderbird to the mac email program Mail.Thunderbird has been playing up a lot recently and am tired of the glitches.
I have all the correct server settings etc and succesfully imported my mailboxes. The problem is that when I send an email it isn't from the right email address?? Is this a Mail problem or smth to do with my settings? I'm with Virgin media and have a separate set of email address through my website for my business so my email address are through freeola that I am using through Thunderbird.I'm sorry if this all sounds very stupid but I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out where I have gone wrong!
Power Mac :: No Longer Receiving Any Email / Nor Can Send Anything Out From Account
Mar 2, 2012Is anyone else having problems with the email? I am not receiving any emails, nor can I send anything out. Spent 30 minutes on online chat last night with someone most unhelpful, only to be told that the reason I'm not receiving anything is because my email is being forwarded to another address. I set my preferences to do that several years ago when this mac.com/me.com server began having so many issues, to ensure I was receiving email so I could check from my other address. The only comment I got was well, we no longer support 10.4.1 so there isn't anything we can do to help you. The status update says 33% of their customers are unable to migrate. So I'm pretty sure I'm not alone and that is a pretty large base of customers to no longer provide support to. Is anyone else who has not migrated to iCloud experiencing these email problems? Currently my iDisk works to transfer my larger files, but my email does not.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Power Loss, Mail Accounts Gone, "Welcome To Mail" Splash Screen?
Jun 5, 2012Using Macbook Air, get low battery warning. Finish what I'm doing, close screen at 0:00 remaining time. Apparently it didn't sleep in time before battery drained completely, since when opening after plugging a minute or two thereafter it went into cold restart. (Btw, I've had the machine just shut down instead of going into deep sleep on low battery a few times before, would like to fix this too...)
All my programs reopened, except Mail loaded the "Welcome to Mail" splash screen, with my name and one of my email addresses autofilled, but none of my regular accounts. I canceled and it closed. Repaired permissions, verified disk, no problems. After searching the forums, turned invisible files on, fired up my Time Machine backup, and restored a recent pre-crash version of Mail preferences plist in user/Library/Preferences. Start up Mail again: same "Welcome to Mail" splash screen.
Called Apple Care, they wanted me to do a full restore from Time Machine backup. But my backup is a week old and I will lose data not covered in the meantime--I still want to find a way to get Mail back working without doing this. The only other suggestion was clear caches, restart, try again. I fired up Onyx, executed maintenance scripts, rebuilt Mail's envelope index, cleared system and user caches, and still no dice.
how to get Mail to recognize my old preferences plist instead of heading straight to the splash screen? To restore to all my email again without a full restore from week old back up?

I have more than one email account set up on Mail and the strangest thing happens and I can't find out how to stop it.
Here is the problem:
- I have 2 accounts, 'Account A' is for my partner & 'Account B' is for me.
- Someone sends an email to 'Account A' (my partner) and CCs 'Account B' (me) into the same eMail.
- If I click reply from 'Account B' it sends the eMail from 'Account A' which is my partner, when it should be from me.
I have worked out that this is because 'Account A' was originally sent the eMail in The 'To' field as opposed to the 'CC' field in composing the reply eMail. I know that I can manually change the 'From' field every time when replying to an eMail but it becomes an nuisance. I forget to do it when quickly replying as I consider Mail to reply from the account that I'm reading the email from.
I have gone to the compose section in the preferences and there is an option for changing this when composing a new email but nothing when replying.
Safari :: Mail Link/Mail Contents Giving Error - "Safari Can't Create An Email Message Because Google Chrome.app Doesn't Support"?
Apr 5, 2012Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)

May 31, 2010All of a sudden yesterday I stopped receiving any emails. I could hear the message alert that one had come in but there was nothing in the mailbox.
I spent much time with the ISP and they say its an Apple problem. All settings appear to be correct and I can't figure out where those emails have gone. I have an iMac G4, OS 10.5.8

Aug 29, 2009I've tried and tried to save it but it just stays blank. I've deleted the email account several times but without success. I've also noticed that Safari will not save my internet login password. I'm staying in a hotel and every 24 hours or so, I'll need to re-login. Using SL & Safari the username stays there but not the password. Before the SL install everything was fine, my email password and the hotel username & password would always be input and remembered.

Jun 30, 2008My .mac mail is being*received*on my blackberry but not on my mail programme on my laptop. My other email accounts are being received in mail on my laptop. Also Mail is running super slow and the only way to close it is through force quit.
The clock symbol is displayed next to the .mac account name in mail and even when i put the .mac account offline it keeps trying to download showing the ticking wheeling symbol or whatever it is called. Also when mail is open all other programmes run super slow and half the time safari does not work at all saying the system is not connected to the internet.

Sep 17, 2003Is anyone else having problems getting their comcast email in Apple's Mail.app? This same thing happened to me about a month ago and after about 5 days it just started working again.
What happens is that it acts like its connecting and then it gets stuck on "Preparing to Retrieve Messages" Fat chance, it doesn't do anything but eventually stop trying to "retreive messages.
I called comcast and apple last time this happened, they blamed it on each other. I can get my email fine in Entourage and via webmail. My other email accounts with .mac work fine as does my wife's comcast email. It's weird. Last time I even tried on other computers and a different user...all the same result.

Feb 25, 2012I am having a problem with sending mail in 10.7.3 and mail 5.2 The email account is a pop3 account. It worked fine for a long time.Last week it started to fail to send outgoing emails I have deleted the account and added it back. Also have deleted the outgoing mail server.(when you delete a mail account it doesn't automatically delete the out going mail server)I have another computer with the same email account and it works fine Finally I unchecked use SSL and The account can now send emails.User name and password are set correctly.I talked to apple and they are blaming it on Frontier.I have read other posts here about ssl problems with 10.7.2 and Imap accounts?
