Jan 11, 2008How do I use the .sub subtitle files in Quicktime?

View 1 RepliesI have an avi [Generic MPEG-4, 688 x 288, Millions, MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz] and a corresponding srt subtitle file.
I can open the avi in QT but only if I remove the srt from the same folder.
So the avi is good.
If I have the srt in the same folder and try to open the avi, QT crashes immediately.
I use Quicktime X for some movies and can't edit the size of the subtitle. it seems too large.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a movie that plays fine with the subtitles when I use VLC but when I burn it to a DVD to play in my DivX DVD player, it won't show the subtitles. Like, it recognizes there is a subtitle file there and I choose it, but they don't show up. I can't find any apps that let you convert from .sub to .srt (a more common format).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to mac and I have a problem when I want to open a downloaded subtitle file from for example allsubs.org. It's in zip format normally and then inside that zip file there has to be an srt file. But when I download the file it doesn't give me the zip file. It just gives me a file without extension titled 1. I have already installed Stuffit and other extractors like unrarX but nothing works.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to rip my blu-ray library with MakeMKV and convert it with Handbrake (which is the best option I've come across for a mac user like myself) but when it comes to extracting .srt files from the resulting .mkv file I come to a brick wall. When I've thought I successfully extracted them using MKVTools (the only way I'm aware of on a mac) I can't find them anywhere on my computer, thus I can't utilize the "add external .srt" option in Handbrake.

I am using handbreake to convert some files to AppleTV. I am adding subtitles, it is fine. But I dont know how I can set subtitle size.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been fiddling around for while on this, I cannot seem to find a simple solution. A movie file, a matching subtitle, but no simple way to stick them together and transcode for playback on other device (likely PS3). This is frustration. Any Mac devs out there should see this as an opportunity to fix a problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy goal is to add subtitles to 640x480 mov video.
When I create a new project of type Hi-def 720p in imovie 06 and import my video, then black column stripes are coming on both sides in the imported video probably to compensate the width.
If this is in the wrong forum then mods please feel free to move it. I'm looking for a program that will search online for Korean subtitles for my movies. Does anyone use any such program or have any recommendations for me?
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan Quicktime X play wmv files without Flip4Mac installed? All my wmv files have "Flip4Mac" as the default application and can't seem to change it to Quicktime
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I open one of the files a dialog box comes up that says, "Additional software is required for quicktime to playback this media" with a link to the quicktime components page.
If I just play the file anyway the sound is all garbled and there's no video at all, it just stays black. Also, the same exact thing happens with realplayer. does this mean there's a problem with the files or something?
I cannot get these mp3 files to play in iTunes, or even VLC. But the quickplay features all work; it does work in quicktime!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI cannot play some avi files. Those that can be played have audio for the first 2 seconds and they disappear.

I have MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.3. My .mov files from several years ago will not open and will not play using Quicktime or any other player. They worked 1 year ago, but just tried them today and they all say "The movie could not be opened. This file is not a movie file." I have not touched them for a year so they haven't changed.

I suspect that this has been asked before, but how do I now play .mov files. I created some movies a few years ago for teaching purposes and need to use them again. However, neither iMovie nor Quicktime seem to recognise/support the .mov format.

In the last couple days, I think since I installed the last upgrade in the OS, my QT is 'unable to complete the process' of opening wmv files. Months ago, I think after I upgraded to Lion, QT stopped allowing me to view avi files. The file opens, and I can scroll through the content, but to 'play' button doesn't work. I can still view those files using DivX Player 8.2.2. These are all files that used to work just fine with QT. Is there anything I can do to restore this functionality to QT?

I am using QuickTime Broadcaster (1.5.3, running on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8) to stream a monthly sales meeting to our employees. The stream is also saved for later viewing. It's this saved stream I'm having issues with. The resulting QuickTime files are very difficult to deal with. QTB automatically closes a file when it gets to 2GB and starts a new one (a little more than four hours of stream, given my present settings). The first of these files will not end cleanly, but instead has a single frame repeated numerous times. Fortunately, QT Pro understands that the video actually ends at the place where these repeated frames begin, so that part is easy enough to edit out.
It's the subsequent files that have the bigger issue. There seems to be some kind of time code problem. When I try to stitch the files together in any app, including MPEG Streamclip, QuickTime Pro, or iMovie, things go haywire. For instance, if I copy the entirety of the second file to the clipboard in QT Pro, then paste it onto the end of the first file, QT Pro refuses to update the view in the viewer. Audio plays, but video doesn't. If I try to save this resulting file, I get "The movie contains an incorrect time value."Often, I can cut out the first few seconds of the second file and it pastes OK. However, this does not always work. Anyway, I do not want to lose any time from the presentation. This seems to happen irrespective of the video format that I've selected for streaming. Does anyone have any experience working with these files?
Is it possible to play VOB files on Quicktime? If so, how?

I just downloaded a .mpg video file and when I tried to open it in QT it said that the file could not be opened. Any way around this like a plugin or something?
