I have an avi [Generic MPEG-4, 688 x 288, Millions, MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz] and a corresponding srt subtitle file.
I can open the avi in QT but only if I remove the srt from the same folder.
So the avi is good.
If I have the srt in the same folder and try to open the avi, QT crashes immediately.
I use Quicktime X for some movies and can't edit the size of the subtitle. it seems too large.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to rip my blu-ray library with MakeMKV and convert it with Handbrake (which is the best option I've come across for a mac user like myself) but when it comes to extracting .srt files from the resulting .mkv file I come to a brick wall. When I've thought I successfully extracted them using MKVTools (the only way I'm aware of on a mac) I can't find them anywhere on my computer, thus I can't utilize the "add external .srt" option in Handbrake.

View 3 Replies View RelatedEverytime I open an AVI in Quicktime it crashes. If I try to open an AVI through iPhoto it tries to open Quicktime and then Quicktime crashes but iPhoto doesn't. When I try to import these AVI's into iMovie it crashes again, this time taking iMovie down with it.
I have the following codec installed in Quicktime:
AC3
Xvid
DivX 6 (latest for Intel)
3ivx
Now here is the really weird part. I used to have a PPC Powerbook up until last week and the AVI files I am now trying to play in Quicktime worked fine even without any plugins so this is really weaird. Even still, if I came across a file that Quicktime couldn't play it never bombed out on me, it just produced a green or black screen with just some sound. The AVI plays fine in VLC but I need to edit them in iMovie.
The underlying issue here as well is that iDVD won't recognize this file either.
My wife works for a TV station and one of the editors at the station put a video file together with Final Cut Pro and put it on our external hard drive.
The file is just over 3 gig and won't open in Quicktime. It WILL open in VLC, but I need to get it in a format that iDVD will recognize because I created a DVD menu for this video and want to add it to my DVD project.
I have some other videos she recently brought home as well in the same .mov format but they are smaller, around 800 MB and those will not play in Quicktime either, but they are recognized by iDVD when I try to add a video the DVD project.
I'm guessing I'm missing a codec here and have tried a number of them but nothing seems to work. I was able to find a free converter that converted the file to .avi and it would then open in Quicktime, but there was a logo added to the video which makes it basically useless to us.
So my questions are-
1) Is it simply too big a file for Quicktime to play? What is the max file size it will play?
2) Is there possibly a codec I'm missing here that I haven't tried yet?
3) What else could the problem be?
I am trying to watch a .avi file, and there is no sound for the particular clip.
However, other .avi files are working and give both video and audio.
this one however is only producing video. is there a plug-in or something i need to download?
Has anyone seen a question mark using Quicktime?
I have recently purchased a 21.5" iMac w/ATI GPU for my work computer, and I am trying to play an avi file in Quicktime. The file is coming from the Windows program 3D Max, and has an avi file which has worked on all my Macs except for my new iMac that is running Snow Leopard.
Does anyone know if this a Snow Leopard issue or Codec problem? I have already downloaded Perian, but have had no luck in fixing my problem.
Has anyone else experienced the '?' covering the Quicktime icon like I show in the attached pic?
I would like to export the audio from a quicktime movie. i have QT 7 Pro. I want to listen to the audio from the movie in my car, on a CD. I tried it a few different ways, as AIFF, another, and it saves a large file but doesn't sound when I play it. No sound. Is there a way to save it so it's audible? These are AVI files.

When I attempt to open it i get the "quicktime does not support this file" message however when i right click the avi file icon and select get info, the video playback works in the preview section... When I create a new project of type Hi-def 720p in imovie 06 and import my video, then black column stripes are coming on both sides in the imported video probably to compensate the width.
I have a co-worker that took a ton of notes as I went along and did the "driving" of installing some new server/app and we were going to use that to do the next build. Well it looks like he never hit save one time after starting the doc and then his MBP crashed and it's all gone.
Is there an autosave or temp file created somewhere that it'd be possible to recover this from?
He's running 10.6/snow leopard fwiw.
If this is in the wrong forum then mods please feel free to move it. I'm looking for a program that will search online for Korean subtitles for my movies. Does anyone use any such program or have any recommendations for me?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I upgraded to Snow Leopard I thought that Quicktime X was supposed to be better. -.- ...NOT the case! I usually obtain .mkv movies with DTS or AC3 audio which I can't play since I don't have a receiver right now.
But since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Quicktime 7 has been shutting down as soon as I press Export? Which puts a huge dent in everything since that was the only way for me to go from 1080p .mkv w/DTS(AC3) to 1080p .mp4 with stereo.
When I bring still photos in to make an animation movie, the quicktime screen and photos are huge, impossible to view this wayÂ
I have tried resizing option but it just drops out after a while.

(MacBook with OSX v.10.6.3; HP LaserJet 3050). I had to reinstall the driver for my HP 3050 AIO printer when the fax and scanner functions failed. I downloaded the latest Snow Leopard driver for the printer from the apple site. Fax and scanner now work, but now I can only print (single copies) with the HP from any application when I use the "print" icon; but when I try file>print to print multiple copies or switch to another printer, the application crashes (Entourage, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Mail, Word for MAC, Excel for MAC, no matter).

Before when I would upload a file, a finder window would pop up, but it immediately crashes before this window appears. I tried logging in as a different user in the OS and that didn't work. But when I rebooted in safe mode. I was able to get the finder pop up window to upload the file.

I have a corrupt quicktime camera file.I think its something as simple as it didn't get the end of file marker.It was recorded on a Contour camera that hit the end of the memory card.I can open the file and play about 75% of it through VLC (the end of the file crashes VLC), but no quicktime or other related programs I have will even try to open the file.

I have been fiddling around for while on this, I cannot seem to find a simple solution. A movie file, a matching subtitle, but no simple way to stick them together and transcode for playback on other device (likely PS3). This is frustration. Any Mac devs out there should see this as an opportunity to fix a problem.
