I have MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.3. My .mov files from several years ago will not open and will not play using Quicktime or any other player. They worked 1 year ago, but just tried them today and they all say "The movie could not be opened. This file is not a movie file." I have not touched them for a year so they haven't changed.
I have bought the registration key and entered it into Quicktime 7. It seems to have accepted it because the icon changed to Pro and it has Quicktime 7 Pro at the bottom instead of 'Buy Quicktime Pro...'
But... when I go to 'Save As' it is greyed out and leads me to a link to 'Buy Now' but on the US store. I bought my update from the UK store as this is the country I live in and from where my Mac was purchased. Maybe this has something to do with it? I followed a UK store web link to download version 7 before updating.
All I want to do is convert a normal midi so that I can open it in Garageband. The Apple helpline is closed
I have movies that I would like to watch but quicktime will not play them all Iam getting black screen I dl Xvid still not working. All my movies seem to play well on windows but nothing on mac.
Problem: after a crash (occurered while whatching a wmv sequence in Safari with Flip4Mac), I uninstalled Flip4Mac. Since then, no way to watch an mpg sequence through Quicktime in Safari - either I get the Quicktime logo with a question mark or Safari crashes.
I tried: reinstalling combo 10.4.8, Safari 2.0.4, Quicktime 7.1.5, creating a new user - no change. I therefor think that there must be some "bad" files somewhere in the system, I checked the safari and finder crash logs.
I purchased QuickTime 7 Pro for my Windows XP computer (product number is D3381Z/A, I still have the order number, etc.).My XP computer died and I have upgraded to Windows 7 and QuickTime 7 Pro is not accepting my registration code. How can I activate the Pro features?
I have read 10 - 20 topics about this problem and have found NO solution. First problem: Quicktime Plugin.plugin was missing.Solution: Using Pacifist I extracted the Quicktime Plugin.plugin and installed it to hd/library/internet plug-insResult: Still not working
Quicktime version: 10.0
Safari version: 5.1.2
I am very frustrated about this problem, their seems to be no solution and I have no idea what to do,
I switched from PC to iMac last week . I am very excited by the performance of Mac OSX and display of the new 21.5" iMac. The only problem I face is that quicktime movies are not played in safari/firefox. Safari waits indefinitely for loading the quicktime movie , firefox shows a big 'Q ?'. Don't know what that means.
This frustrating because I can't view any of the tutorial movies in the apple website. It is ironic that apple's own format is not playing on the new iMac.
The OS is Mac OSX 10.6.2 . Flash is playing well in the same machine. I am new to mac .
im new to this forum, but i really, really need help.My Mac finally dissapointed me...It has slowed a lot, lots, and i mean LOTS of spinning wheels, finder bugs up from time to time, and restarts.iTunes wont start.QuickTime wont start.Toast 10 wont start.Photo Booth wont start (also can;t take pictures with skitch, but skitch works. Safari works, but bugs from time to time, and exits...i rarely get "send to apple" window...
well...thats all for now,but i think there are more apps that dont work,i just didnt try them...it is really hard to use my mac,and it is pissing me off...i wanted to format the disk, but i dont have an external to backup my stuff,so i need a temporary solution before i do that
I bought macbook pro 13 inch 2.4 base model, i found that media keys (f7 f8 f9) only work with front row and not working with iTune or QuickTime, how to make them work?
also they work as a function keys when i press fn+Key , so i think it is not hardware problem.
Can Quicktime X play wmv files without Flip4Mac installed? All my wmv files have "Flip4Mac" as the default application and can't seem to change it to Quicktime
When I open one of the files a dialog box comes up that says, "Additional software is required for quicktime to playback this media" with a link to the quicktime components page.
If I just play the file anyway the sound is all garbled and there's no video at all, it just stays black. Also, the same exact thing happens with realplayer. does this mean there's a problem with the files or something?
I suspect that this has been asked before, but how do I now play .mov files. I created some movies a few years ago for teaching purposes and need to use them again. However, neither iMovie nor Quicktime seem to recognise/support the .mov format.

In the last couple days, I think since I installed the last upgrade in the OS, my QT is 'unable to complete the process' of opening wmv files. Months ago, I think after I upgraded to Lion, QT stopped allowing me to view avi files. The file opens, and I can scroll through the content, but to 'play' button doesn't work. I can still view those files using DivX Player 8.2.2. These are all files that used to work just fine with QT. Is there anything I can do to restore this functionality to QT?
I am using QuickTime Broadcaster (1.5.3, running on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8) to stream a monthly sales meeting to our employees. The stream is also saved for later viewing. It's this saved stream I'm having issues with. The resulting QuickTime files are very difficult to deal with. QTB automatically closes a file when it gets to 2GB and starts a new one (a little more than four hours of stream, given my present settings). The first of these files will not end cleanly, but instead has a single frame repeated numerous times. Fortunately, QT Pro understands that the video actually ends at the place where these repeated frames begin, so that part is easy enough to edit out.
It's the subsequent files that have the bigger issue. There seems to be some kind of time code problem. When I try to stitch the files together in any app, including MPEG Streamclip, QuickTime Pro, or iMovie, things go haywire. For instance, if I copy the entirety of the second file to the clipboard in QT Pro, then paste it onto the end of the first file, QT Pro refuses to update the view in the viewer. Audio plays, but video doesn't. If I try to save this resulting file, I get "The movie contains an incorrect time value."Often, I can cut out the first few seconds of the second file and it pastes OK. However, this does not always work. Anyway, I do not want to lose any time from the presentation. This seems to happen irrespective of the video format that I've selected for streaming. Does anyone have any experience working with these files?
It appears that the function keys to control iTunes/Quicktime (FF, Play/Pause, and RW) are not working. At one point they did but now it doesn't. All the other function keys are functioning just fine and dandy. I have the "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" unchecked in the preferences. I looked around and there doesn't seem to be any setting that would explain the sudden malfunctioning of the keys. Is there something I may have missed?
I just downloaded a .mpg video file and when I tried to open it in QT it said that the file could not be opened. Any way around this like a plugin or something?
Someone sent me a link to a file that is stored on their server. When I click the link the movie auto plays in QT. Is there a way I can save this file?
I am having trouble playing MKV files in Quicktime X. I have Perian installed. When I click on an MKV file to play it it plays fine in Quicktime 7. Is there something I need to do to allow mkv to be played in Quicktime X?
I attempted to view a movie trailer off [URL] something which I often do with QuickTime X, but it didn't work. 3 or 4 error messages popped up. I have perian and flip4mac installed, but I've always had those installed.
I recorded a movie with isight-a very long one at that-around 3 hours. When I try to play back I receive error message "The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands." How to play? I have Quicktime Player 10 running from Snow Leopard. Inside the folder for the event in imovie it shows the movie file but with a zero kb size. Also has an imovie cache folder.
everytime I launch fcp it asks for the serial number. Not so much a problem but it's semi-annoying. If there's a way to cut that out I'd be greatful to find out.
Second, I can't find the quicktime files i've exported. It goes they the menus and shows a progress bar and even stops normally like it would when the file is finished. I've check everywhere I can think to check. When I try to export under the same file name a pop up says "file already exisits". So I try a differnt name and we repeat the process.
I've got an older Mac (iMac from around 2006) that uses iLife and an older version of Quicktime. Recently I bought a MacBook with Mac OS X and the newest version of Quicktime. I have a camera that connects into my older mac computer but not my laptop so I thought I could put all the video from my camera onto iMovie on my computer and transfer it into Quicktime. I did that easily, so now I have one 10-minute movie clip on Quicktime. I put that clip onto a USB to transfer onto my Macbook but for some reason I can't open the clip. When I try to open it, it doesn't say anything. QuickTime pops up as in use, but the window doesn't open and nothing plays. Why won't this play? And how can I transfer that clip onto my laptop?
