how do you start/restart/stop servicves on a mac?
in specific, i am trying to control the coldfusion 8 developer server running locally on my mac.
I have a Lion server and am not able to connect over "ssh" from the public ip address side. At some point I think I heard that "ssh" had to be turned on in terminal in order to work. Is this correct? And can anyone provide the terminal command as I have been unable to find it.

Trying to installed JAMF software on Mac Mini server. One of the configuration steps required setting up a database from the terminal but it requires the MYSQL service to be running and I'm unable to get this service to start.

updated to 10.7.4 and cannot turn on my Open Directory service in Server Admin. It's there, but says it is stopped, and it won'y start.After reboot it is still the same.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have this program installed called KeyAccess (or KeyServer). It is used by my college to allow me access to the licenses to a slew of software provided by the school. However, it loads at startup, and I have no idea how to prevent it from doing so. There's no option to configure it not to, I have tried looking for an entry in StartupItems and Login Items of my Accounts preferences. It is located in the Preferences Pane, its not really a standalone program.

Well mine won't stop loading. I left it on all night and it still hasn't finished loading. Its the circular one that just goes around and around.

I am getting a little frustrated. Everytime I start my computer Word, Excel and other programs open. I have tried the following which hasn't helped.
1. I went into system preferences into User/Groups, logins and deleted all items.
2. Hovered over the word in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen, clicked options, unchecked open at login. (I have been closing down the application before loging off)
Other than that I am not sure how to stop these from opening.

Came home from work and the computer was off. I tried to restart but no joy. Power was good and battery check show it full. After pushing the start button it would try to to start for 3-5 seconds and then stop completely.

The hanging appears to have been caused when I accidently moved about 40GB of old photo's onto my desktop. Almost immediately I tried to cancel but all that happened is that the system has hung. Processer can be heard working in the background. Being new to MAC I am pretty stumped. Have tried the obvious forced restart using the power on/off button but no luck. Is there a way I can get in and stop this process say at start up?

View 1 Replies View RelatedA couple of nights ago I set my iMac G3 (Blueberry) to stop automatic login at start up and put it to sleep. I did this because I didn't want my kids on the web in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. When morning comes, the computer is off. I try to start it but it won't turn over. When I push the on button, the button flashes on for a split second and I hear the crackle of static as if the computer is starting, but nothing happens after that. I tried plugging and unplugging the computer, but nothing helps.

Version 10.6.1 no longer allows use of the space bar to start and stop the currently playing music. Also, the return key can no longer be used to strart a song. I find it very convenient to use the space bar to stop and start the music.

My company has been happily using FTP for months now. Then, for some reason that I have not yet determined, FTP stopped. I launched Server Admin and found that the service had been stopped. When I tried to click the green button to start it, nothing happened.

My MBP has this issue every once in a while where I have to hold the power button and force shut down. Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. Everything still works though (can still function in open applications) Anyone know what the problem is? It fixes when I force reset.

The performance through the VPN is badly affected by the Airport scanning regularly; often the VPN hangs.
I have deleted the unnecessary wireless networks listed in the Advanced button under Network Preferences. However, the problem persists.
Can you advise how to either stop the scanning or stop it interfering with Internet connection?
My computer won't turn on. Earlier today while playin music it just paused itself. I minute later it resumed. Then tonight it just shut off instead of sleeping and now it won't start. All I can get if I'm lucky is the start up chime and a super quick flash of a white screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst off, let me explain the position I am in. I have the newest 13in MacBook with a 2.4Ghz hard drive. I installed Windows Vista on it recently after I got it. Many times while using Vista, all audio would stop and be replaced with crackling sounds. This would continue until I restarted. I tried going to Dell, downloading drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n WiFi Adapters and installing those, but that caused a worse problem. Windows can no longer find any networks, and when I select the Broadcom WiFi Adapters in Device Manager, it says "This device cannot start." and says it's Code 10 or something.
