Trying to installed JAMF software on Mac Mini server. One of the configuration steps required setting up a database from the terminal but it requires the MYSQL service to be running and I'm unable to get this service to start.

My company has been happily using FTP for months now. Then, for some reason that I have not yet determined, FTP stopped. I launched Server Admin and found that the service had been stopped. When I tried to click the green button to start it, nothing happened.
I rebooted the machine, looked in logs, replaced config files...nothing. It simply won't start, and I don't know why
I have a Lion server and am not able to connect over "ssh" from the public ip address side. At some point I think I heard that "ssh" had to be turned on in terminal in order to work. Is this correct? And can anyone provide the terminal command as I have been unable to find it.

First, I'm a n00b Mac user but I'm reasonably tech smart and I want to make the jump to OSX. I need a mac for the wife, who will use it in the living room connected to our TV. She does email, light desktop publishing, and a metric ton of movies and music: the iTunes library alone is 300GB. Plus she watches DVDs on it. I was thinking about buying a refurbed mac mini server (It's at a discounted price) but I don't need Snow Leopard Server. I'll add the external superdrive later.How hard would it be to just install regular Snow Leopard instead of Server?Also, in regular Snow Leopard, how would the HDDs show up in OSX? One big 1TB drive or 2 500gb drives?

View 3 Replies View Related2QuadCOre 2x3,2 GHZ , 10.6.8 MAc Pro -very annoying issue.Starting normally I cannot pass grey screen of death . The only way to pass this point is to force restart with alt key pressed - and then click on my startup drive ( i have several drives with OSX ) I have been runninmg disk utility / repairing priviliges etc . Obviosly my system drive is chosen and locked in system preferences.  Â

mysqld has a ton of really nice startup options to help me debug my app. However I cannot figure out how to shutdown and restart MySQL from the command line and pass these options to mysqld.Snow Leopard and MySQL 5.1.56 MySQL Community Server. Â

I've been lurking for a while and on the fence about a new Mac Mini. Since I've given up on a Media Center PC with Blu Ray, I'm back to the Mac Mini. I've got two blu ray players and PS3, so I think we've got that covered! One of the things that I'd really like to have is maximum storage for the Mac Mini, since it will have the video and audio on there. The question is this. Is anyone out there running a Mac Mini Server with Snow Leopard installed as a regular desktop machine? How does that work out? Is it worth it? I already have a very nice external Lacie double layer DVD burner, so the optical drive isn't necessary for me. Does the Mini Server with its 1TB of storage make sense? At $849 for a refurb at Apple.com, it seems pretty reasonable. Would love to hear thoughts from this crowd.

I tried to the following: I inserted my retail snow leopard DVD in my macbook pro and I launched "Remote Install Mac OS X" (in /applications/utilities) and I followed the instructions. Then I booted the mac mini holding the "alt" key down and selected the snow leopard dvd as startup disk. What I see next is the Apple logo with the activity indicator spinning and after several seconds I see a "no entry" sign and nothing more it stays like this forever. Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on a Mac mini server?

It started up and reaches the apple loading screen but goes off without reaching the log in screen. I have tried booting from the CD again and resetting the PRAM but it still wont work and continues to do the same

Users that have connected previously are experiencing no difficulty. A quick overview of the layout of the system: two XServes, one is OD primary (aspen) the other is OD replica and iChat server (vail). I've modded some config files (long ago) to allow user IDs for jabber to be user@ourcompany.office instead of user@vail.ourcompany.office. It works quite nicely.Â

I just bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4 and starting fixing it with only fresh installs. I installed the OS X 10.5 (x86_64) pak. It was running fine until now.
The start/stop in the pref.pane don't work and if I do a "mysql start" in the terminal I get:

Macbook Pro running Lion V 10.7.4Â .After a hard drive failure this weekend, I restored frm my most recent backup.Unfortunately this did not include svn, host file changes and some other fairly easy to correct things.The one that has been giving me trouble for the last 8 hours is mysql. I have gone through and removed mysql (multiple times) and did fresh installs. Each time I was getting the error:Â

Even after changing my /etc/my.cnf file to point to var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock I would get these errors. Â
Are there multiple locations where mysql points to /tmp/mysql.sock? Â
I am at a loss of what to do. I have uninstalled reeinstalled. Tried many different solutions all to reeive the same error.Â

I've just bought a new MacBook Pro, it came last week (or perhaps the week before) with 10.5.7 and I immediately bought the upgrade to 10.6. It seemed a little buggy, but nothing I could put my finger on, but this morning I couldn't start - just the apple and spinning wheel. The only thing I've done since my last restart is install software for mobile broadband usb.
I can't reinstall my system software because it's "old" (ie 10.5.7 and I've installed 10.6).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI work remotely a lot. After I upgraded to Lion server, I am unable to connect to the VPN service remotely unless I physically go over to the server (mac pro) and log into the desktop manually.Â
Previously, if my Snow Leopard server restarted (due to power failure, etc) and it re-booted up to the login screen, I could still logon to the VPN remotely as the VPN service would always startup (at the login screen) without a user having to be logging in. Â
Now, with Lion Server (10.7.4), if the server restarts, I cannot login back to the VPN. I have to get someone to go over to the server and manually login, then I can access VPN just fine. (I do not, and will not turn automatic login on on my server due to the huge security risk.)Â Â
How do I get the Lion Server VPN service to startup before or at the logon screen even if no user is logged in?
My Mac is continually sending SSDP packets to destination 239.255.255.250 destination port 1900. I can not filter it using Water roof (ipfw manager) How can I stop my Mac from sending these packets.
