Software :: How To Uninstall The Unresponsive
Jul 14, 2010
I just received my mom's old MacBook and I'm still getting used to it.
Apparently my cousin downloaded LimeWire while she was using it last week; I really want to uninstall it, but it is 'Not Responsive' and keeps showing the swirly rainbow cursor. I dragged it to the bottom of the screen and now I can't bring it back up.
I want to uninstall it, but I don't know how.

I've owned my 15 inch Macbook Pro for a little over a month now, and I've noticed that generally the keyboard requires a bit more of a tactile pres than others that I've used, but my S key is especially annoying. I can depress it all the way lightly (<-- notice the lack of second s in depress) and have it not register. I have to press a fair bit harder. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's had problems with the keyboard. I'm just wondering if there are any obvious fixes before I end up taking it in to a store. I've tried pressing down really hard and moving the key around a bit and canned air, but I don't think anything's under the key, it seems like just a mechanical issue.

I booted up my macbook and am now unable to click on anything. I can move the cursor around fine but cannot select anything. The keyboard works fine as well. I tried plugging in a mouse but it was unable to click on anything either. I've also restarted multiple times but nothing changed.

Lately I have been having a very strange issue with my keyboard. Randomly it becomes unresponsive, but not every key?! All letters are unresponsive, however I am still able to navigate spaces using cmd-1,2,3,4 etc., and the caps lock button will turn on, however I can't type anything. The only way to resolve it is by putting the macbook to sleep and then waking it.

Recently, iTunes has started to become completely unresponsive while it downloads things such as music, podcasts, etc. It doesn't freeze. the downloads still download, and then iTunes becomes responsive again once the downloads have finished. Not the end of the world, but I do subscribe to a lot of podcasts, so having iTunes constantly become unresponsive on me is a huge pain in the neck. Possibly relevant?: My iTunes library is on an external RAID array. But I don't think it's a problem with the array, since everything else I use it for seems to be working just fine. And I don't see why downloading data to the array should cause iTunes to lock up, in any case.

I have a USB2 PCI card in my G4, and any devices plugged into it (mainly my iPod Shuffle) become unresponsive after a few minutes. For instance, I will be copying songs to my iPod, and halfway through, the copying process will drag to a halt. Burning CDs to a USB2 CD-RW often fail because the burn cannot complete. I have tried two different brands of USB2 cards with the same result.

I have upgraded 4 macs (iMac 24"; MBP 17 and MBP 15 and iBook) for 10 days+. Now MBP 17 (4GB RAM) having serious issues with DOCK; Expose and Spaces.
- Dock hangs when I try to open Mail then disappears until I reboot.
- Expose and Spaces do not work -have had to swtich them off as they lose all their settings.
Reinstalled from scratch and everything was well for 3 days now back to same problems.
- Also in Dock preference setting. I cannot activate "Automatically Hide and Show". The setting will not activate at all.
- Command (Apple) + Tab = Application Switcher will not work!
So without the Dock, I have to go to Applications (in Finder) or Recent Items to launch apps! All 4 machines I upgrade are similar except for CPU, RAM and Hard-disk size. Running same apps (except for Aperature on MBP 17 on the culprit machine!)

I was using my Macbook as usual last night, when some of the programs froze and the laptop started to get extremely hot. I tried to quit out of them but they were unresponsive, and unsure of what to do about it closed the lid and let it sleep and cool off. This morning I have tried to close the programs again with no success, so I hit the power button to restart the laptop. Now it doesn't boot, a folder appears on a gray background with a question mark in it. It wont boot to windows either, just sits on a gray screen. Can anyone help? What do I do? I'm not brilliant with computers, but I don't think I had done anything to crash the laptop. I had upgraded to Snow Leopard earlier on though, and not had any issues until then.

I ran into a bit of weirdness last night when converting a bunch of Xvid encoded AVI's over to H.264 m4v's using Handbrake. The reason I'm posting here is I think there might be an issue with the hard disk. To begin with, it ran (using 2-pass, turbo first pass) fine, up to finishing the turbo first pass, then it'd hang for about a minute, then carry on with the 2nd pass, running at around 300-400fps (not bad eh!). At around 40-50%, the hard disk starts sounding like it's performing a lot of tasks, even if nothing else is running. fps drops to around 100, then dips down to 30 or so and stays there. Entire system becomes slow / unresponsive. Seeing as the source files and destination for the output were on the same 2Tb drive (25% full), I wondered if perhaps this was too much for one drive to cope with (I'd previously been ripping videos / DVDs to an External drive, and never had this issue). I wiped an external drive, loaded the AVI's, and used it as a source drive, so all my main OS drive had to do was write the file, rather than both read and write at the same time. Same issue, but only for the first file. After this, the whole process ran smoothly. I'm not sure if the issue might have been that I was also copying different files as well as using handbrake, but despite stopping all other activities, this problem persisted, despite reboots, for a while.

I've had my 13" MBA for a couple weeks now and have loved it. I was using it last night just fine and go to use it around noon today and it is completely unresponsive. I've tried all of the troubleshooting options available on the Apple website for those whose computers won't start up. I really don't want to have to bring this in to my not-so-local Apple Store which is almost two hours away and I really don't want all of my data erased.

So I was just using my computer normally when I was suddenly having an issue where I could not click on anything. I was forced to hard restart but it did not help. I am still able to navigate with the trackpad or my mighty mouse (wireless) but clicking with either does nothing.
After some searching I have reset the pram multiple times and have also done command+S at boot and run fsck. Resetting the pram worked once, but only for maybe 5 minutes. During that time I ran a permissions test, it corrected 2-3 things but that is it. I have tried booting from the leopard cd but it spits the cd out.

I have an iMac (20" 2.4 g, 3 gig ram, os 10.5.6) that has recently stopped waking up after a long night of sleep. I have also found that the mouse and keyboard become unresponsive if the mac does wake up. The mouse has power, but the keyboard does not show any sign of life. The mouse glows red, but when I hit caps-lock, the little green light doesn't come on. I have tried switching ports, but no dice. As I said, the USB port clearly is sending power to the mouse, but not accepting any input. When I restart, all is well on most occassions, but the problem has persisted, once or twice, after a re-boot.

I have been experiencing some unusual problems with my imac. While on the internet today my computer crashed on me twice, the first time the screen just showed a bunch of vertical lines, the second it flashed some random colors then went black. After the screen change the computer was unresponsive. I have a bad feeling, is it due to overheating, a bad logic board or something else. This is the first time I have ever experienced this on a mac. Has anyone had any simiar issues? Or am I up **** creek? I can't really afford a new computer seeing that I just bought an iPad (it comes Saturday). I am not sure if my computer is still under apple care and even if it was I won't get it back by the time I have to go back to college. I attached a screen shot of my computer temps.

I got a new Macbook Pro in December and straight away I noticed I have to really jab at the Caps Lock key to activate it, sometimes several times. Pressing it on the left hand side (where my finger naturally reaches to) almost never works. Anyone else have this? Is it a known problem? Would Apple be likely to be able to sort it out if I took it to a store, or am I wasting my time?

I have a 2.4 gig intel core 2 duo imac running S.L., with all the software updated.
Quite often, mail and itunes just freeze up and I get the spinning rainbow colored wheel.
It happened before my clean install of S.L. also.
Ive deleted pretty much all of non-essential files and programs, but still cant resolve this.
Could this be a hardware based issue, or could it still be something I am running on here ?

A few days ago I posted about a bit scratch that appeared out of nowhere on my brand new iPad, now this: Spilt tiny quantity, maybe 3 ml, of coke onto the case of my mbp and little of it drained into the bottom edge of the trackpad. It became unresponsive and made only a dull click for the next 15 mins. Whilst tapping harder to see if I could get a click out of it (it ofc happened whilst doing something important) the glass of the track pad cracked beneath my finger. Wasn't even tapping that hard.

I've been getting frequent warnings that the Dashboard Client has unexpectedly quit, but Dashboard itself continued to work until yesterday. Now, however, it doesn't respond - it's frozen at 2pm yesterday according to the clock.Â
I've trashed the dashboard plist and dashboard client plist from Preferences, but to no effect. The dashboard plist recreates itself, but the dashboard client plist does not recreate itself, so there is no longer anything there in Preferences for me to trash in this respect.Â

I have been troubleshooting this issue. It has something to do with Finder and disks,Running Mac Pro 5,1 with Mavericks 10.9,3 with 10Gb RAM (2x1Gb stock + 2x4Gb), SSD for primary OS drive, 2 TB HDD for Home folder. Have a few other HDD's in the Mac Pro and an external drive for Time MachineÂ
Problems include;Disk Images no longer unmountHard drives (SSD, Home HD, Bootcamp drive) no longer list contents in Finder although Time Machine drive, and 2 other HDD's do list contentsDisk Utility freezes when launched (Freezes at Gathering disk information...)When trying to reboot, Finder becomes unresponsive and can't quit, when force quit, hangs on Grey screen pre-spin progress indicator and required hard shutdown (power button for several seconds)Â
Tried fixes (in order of trying);Reinstalled fresh copy of MavericksSwitched HD for Home folder (it was giving me SMART warnings)Switched HD's around within the MacZap PRAMInstalled Mavericks on a single drive and things seemed to work fine for several days, so I thought it was my SSDReplaced SSD and reinstalled OS, But now after a day it's doing it againÂ
Other info : I am running CrashPlan which seems to be able to read the disks and back up files (so it seems).Time Machine seems to be backing everything up on schedule..I can run Terminal command "diskutil list" and all the drives show up..I can mount new dmg files, but the contents do not show up but the drive does show up in the Terminal command
When I go to eject them, they stay shown in Finder but are no longer listed in the Terminal command.Activity Monitor shows Disk Utility as hanging, but no other odd indicators.Memory Pressure shows low green in the graph. When I hard shutdown and startup again, everything works for awhile perfectly, but then the problems start showing up.

My cd/dvd drive has become unresponsive.Â
I try to insert a photo cd and it is not accepted. I then thought I might try to burn a disc from iTunes to see if it might "wake up" the drive. No luck. Â
I have a mac book pro running yosemite. As best I can tell, the last time I used the drive was about 6 months ago, prior to the upgrade to yosemite. Â Is this a sign of a software problem or a hardware problem?Â

We were running out of space. Today I was downloading a big file (1GB) when I got the "running out of space" alert message. Went to open info in the HD and saw there was only 255MB!!! I opened Trash but before I could hit "empty trash" the system froze. I can see there is "zero bytes" as available space... Nothing is responding, nneither the trackpad not the keyboard. SOS! I don't know what to do... It has been frozen for 1/2 an hour now..
What should I Do? MBP is running Mavericks.

After downloading the latest Mavericks software on my MacBook Air, the process asked my to open my account. I could not remember my password and as instructed, requested to change it. Off it went, with the little wheel turning madly and 5 days later it continues to do so, with me unable to turn the computer off or in any way restart it. It's stuck in the on position, with the wheel madly turning around and around.Â
It says to exit windows but I can't get at it because the screen is unresponsive.Â
