My MacBook pro is running very slow and unresponsive.I have mid 2010 model running on lion. Past few days it looks very unresponsive. Tried to reinstall lion as clean copy. Still no luck.

My mouse pad is unresponsive or extremely slow in responding. Very herky jerky. Same problem with the key board.

Background info:
A few weeks ago I upgraded from a regular macbook to a brand new macbook pro 2.66 ghz. I replaced the hard drive right away with a 500gb one (had it done by apple). So my machine runs snow leopard now, I used the data transfer mode to basicly copy the data and apps from my old macbook to the new MBP.
The "problem"
It all worked fine and smooth until a week ago ...For a week now I have a problem that really concerns me. Whenever I open my laptop from a sleep mode he gets really slow and unresponsive to my commands. Its like its crashing, all I can do to get out of this is a hard reboot.
However .. during a reboot OR a cold bootup the MBP gets stuck in the grey screen with only the apple logo .. after a minute or 3 it will start loading but it will never reach the login screen... The strange thing is that when I do reboot it over and over again .. it eventually will boot normally and when it does the MBP runs fine .. until I turn it off or put it in sleep mode .. then the nightmare will start again.
What I have done
I personally suspects the Hard Drive to be the culprit, I get the feeling that the Hard Drive is having trouble starting up or getting out of sleep mode. I am not sure tough.
I have done the following:
- Disc Utility (gives no errors)
- Booting up in terminal and run Disc Utility there (repaired a volume issue)
Could this be a leopard issue? I actually can't remember if this issue happened after the last macOS update or not ..I never had a problem with my iBook and Macbook so I have little experience on troubleshooting. So I hope you more technical experienced users can give me some tips on what to do here.
Is anybody else experiencing some horrible performance when running iTunes? I know it's an resource hog, but it's really laggy and unresponsive.. and using more than 100% cpu ....? (I'm running it on a 2009 octo-core MP)
View 21 Replies View RelatedI stopped by a friends house to try and help them with an early 2009 20" iMac that started stalling on startup (sometimes before their login screen, and sometimes after). The computer didn't exhibit this behaviour at all, then overnight, it behaved as stated and never once allowed them to get far enough to launch an application or open the Finder.Â
When I arrived, rebooted and held down Command + Option + P + R, but it had no effect on the problem.  I then booted off the original OSX discs and ran Disk Utility. At first it seemed slow to complete, but before long (a few minutes) the Verify Disk finished without any errors. Next, I attempted "Repair Disk Permissions" and noticed that this was taking a very long time, +10 minutes. That said, it did complete without any problems, albiet slowly.Â
Unfortunately, this did not allow me to login, and I never made it to the login screen. Being a close friend, I offered to take the computer home and try to copy as much data as I could through Target Disk Mode over Firewire.Â
My first attempt to copy her Home directory got 25% of the way through the roughly 4 GB of data, then stopped. I rebooted and tried again, with even less success than before (I could barely access Folders let alone copy after the reboot). I attempted to recreate the "successful" attempt by unplugging the computer and letting it sit for a few hours. Sure enough, I was able to copy data from the Target Disk Mode mounted drive, but after about 1 GB of copying the access to the hard slowed to a crawl (a few kilobytes per minute) then halted completely.Â
I've repeated the above process to slowly but surely copy the entire 4 GB of home directory data, and am about to call it quits after salvaging what was important to her.Â
Question: Is this the sign of a failing hard drive close to the end of its life, or is this something potentially more serious with the logic board? I've only come across a stubborn drive like this with an external drive that was close to failure, and assume this is the case.Â
I've been using Safari 5.1.4 for about six months and haven't had any problems until now. All of a sudden, I can't get Safari to quit. (My other browsers are fine.) When I scroll down under "file" the "quit safari" option is light gray and unresponsive. At first I thought I would uninstall Safari and then reinstall. However, when I tried dragging the icon out of applications, it wouldn't go into trash since it's permanently open. When I try to shut down or log out Safari aborts the operation.

I have the macbook 13 inch 2.0 ghz version. It currently has the MAC OS 10.5.5 my problem is most of the time in safari the webpages load up pretty slow, feels like Im on dial up even though Im only a couple of feet away from my WiFi router. The webpages start to load up about 1/8th of the bar and then pauses then it starts loading up slow. In my PC with XP and in my laptop with XP the internet loads up pretty fast and normal.
My wifi router is a linksys WRT54GS with firmware v4.71.1 and my current setting for the macbook wifi is DHCP with manual address. For some reason I dont know why it wouldnt communicate with my router if set to "Using DHCP," it wouldnt even get an IP. But it communicates if I set it statically even though I've already increased the number of DHCP Address in my router.
Safari is too slow in my macbook pro

View 3 Replies View Relatedhas anyone else noticed that the new safari update has made the program slower when loading pages? notably, the end of the page takes a second or two to load (whereas before it was much much quicker), and it will beachball for a sec as it finishes?
View 19 Replies View RelatedBeing new to Apple, I don't know if this is normal or not. When I open a pdf file with safari (as a link on a web page), Safari goes very slow, and spends too long to read the file. Is this normal, or do I have to install any plugin to make it faster? It doesn't happen with Firefox, btw.

This problem has just krept up in the last couple of days on my MacPro. A page will load about halfway then just stall and when it finally loads it is in text with no images.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy safari browser is slow (MacBook Pro 10.6.8). I often have to shut down my computer because it freezes with the spinning color wheel. Sometimes the browser will not be slow when I switch to the chrome browser, but sometimes it is. I may have a logic board problem so I am wondering if that could have anything to do with my slow browser. When I click on Software Update, it shows no software updates (for safari). What could be causing this?

Mine runs in slow motion. The audio is fine but the video is not.
No vids are really out of sync.
Since installing Lion on my Macbook pro, my safari is running very slow.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X, Version 10.6.8 and Safari has started running really slowly, all of a sudden. I've tried Firefox and Google Chrome, which run faster, but not much. Wi-Fi has been checked and is not the problem. I've emptied my cache and reset Safari. My disc usage is 15%, my system memory says that I have 2.35 GB of free space, and there are no "page outs". All of the programs, on my computer, that do not require internet access run fine. My firewall is off.

My Safari browser has been running slow since upgrading to Mavericks last fall. Some webpages (Facebook, USAA) won't even fully load, while others load fine. I've read a lot of the other posts about slow Safari and I've tried the other tricks that people have posted (Changing DNS to the Google one, using "Reset" on Safari, turning off extensions and plug-ins) I finally downloaded Chrome and it's just as fast as my safari "used" to be. So it can't be the internet connection because both my phone/iPad browsers are super fast and my MacBook Pro's Chrome is super fast. I just want to go back to using Safari!Â

While typing this, a slow script warning has popped up 4 times. After making the changes, I get no results. I have gone to Safari > Preferences > Javascript on/off/on again & Deleted cookies all to get further warnings. Popped up 3 more times. The message: Safari is no longer responding because of a script on the webpage "MacBook: Notebooks: Apple Support Communities" [URL]. Do you want to stop running the script, or let it continue?

This has been going on for a while. I can barely use safari due to the beachball.

Ever since I updated when Safari 5 came out, it's been ridiculously slow. About 5 times slower than Safari 4. I remember reading about such problems with Safari 5 and I tried all of the recommendations, but they didn't help. Some pages just won't load unless I try multiple times.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHas anyone noticed that Safari 5 is kind of slower than Safari 4.1??? It's not me. I am sure that 4.1 was faster and i enabled the develop menu so i chose 4.1 version under the user agent! I am using the same network and it's still slower! EVERY SINGLE PAGE! what's up???
View 24 Replies View RelatedI've owned my 15 inch Macbook Pro for a little over a month now, and I've noticed that generally the keyboard requires a bit more of a tactile pres than others that I've used, but my S key is especially annoying. I can depress it all the way lightly (<-- notice the lack of second s in depress) and have it not register. I have to press a fair bit harder. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's had problems with the keyboard. I'm just wondering if there are any obvious fixes before I end up taking it in to a store. I've tried pressing down really hard and moving the key around a bit and canned air, but I don't think anything's under the key, it seems like just a mechanical issue.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI booted up my macbook and am now unable to click on anything. I can move the cursor around fine but cannot select anything. The keyboard works fine as well. I tried plugging in a mouse but it was unable to click on anything either. I've also restarted multiple times but nothing changed.

I was using my Macbook as usual last night, when some of the programs froze and the laptop started to get extremely hot. I tried to quit out of them but they were unresponsive, and unsure of what to do about it closed the lid and let it sleep and cool off. This morning I have tried to close the programs again with no success, so I hit the power button to restart the laptop. Now it doesn't boot, a folder appears on a gray background with a question mark in it. It wont boot to windows either, just sits on a gray screen. Can anyone help? What do I do? I'm not brilliant with computers, but I don't think I had done anything to crash the laptop. I had upgraded to Snow Leopard earlier on though, and not had any issues until then.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had my 13" MBA for a couple weeks now and have loved it. I was using it last night just fine and go to use it around noon today and it is completely unresponsive. I've tried all of the troubleshooting options available on the Apple website for those whose computers won't start up. I really don't want to have to bring this in to my not-so-local Apple Store which is almost two hours away and I really don't want all of my data erased.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat is the cause of this is it software or hardware? I'm puzzled as to how it's possible for it recover overnight so that it's reliable again the next morning.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a new Macbook Pro in December and straight away I noticed I have to really jab at the Caps Lock key to activate it, sometimes several times. Pressing it on the left hand side (where my finger naturally reaches to) almost never works. Anyone else have this? Is it a known problem? Would Apple be likely to be able to sort it out if I took it to a store, or am I wasting my time?
