Each time I open my powerbook today it is completely unresponsive.
Mouse wont work.Trackpad wont work. Can't alt+tab between apps.
The only thing i can do is hold down the power button to reboot.
My Friend has a 15" Powerbook (2nd last rev.... 1.67ghz with lo-res screen) and it's been on the fritz lately. It operates completely normal and then it suddenly goes to sleep. When I wake it up it's back to normal just fine. It goes to sleep after about 3 minutes of use.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy PowerBook had a battery problem (dead battery which did not charge anymore). It lost date and time several times while mac was on AC and power cord was removed. Now it has a brand new battery.
Since then, Powerbook does not go to sleep mode anymore:
- if it goes to sleep following settings of energy saver prefs, it doesn't wake up anymore, black screen and LED stays on
- if I force it to sleep through the Apple menu, it freezes with a black screen with the following white text: You Mac needs to be restarted by pressing for a few seconds on the power button.
I have tried to reboot with apple-alt-P-R and waited 5 reboot
I have tried sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 in the terminal
Nothing changed...
Any (good) idea out there???
I put my PowerBook to sleep and instead of going to sleep it locked up half way to sleep. The clock and WiFi settings were reset. What would of caused the WiFi settings to be reset?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy G4 PowerBook (Aluminium 15" 1.67Ghz, A1104) keeps putting itself to sleep at odd times. This is without a main battery in place, and a dead PRAM battery, both of which I'm waiting to replace.When I wake it up, it tries to power up, HD spins, but then goes back to sleep without even the screen coming on. I can do this like 5 or 6 times, and then eventually it wakes up and stays awake. For a while.or the first time today it wouldn't actually even start up from a total shutdown 2 minutes revious. It was just dead. After about the 6th press of the power button it started up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had an iBook, now I have a powerbook. Both have the feature when I shut the computers and they are in sleep mode, the light goes from dim to bright to dim to bright..... It drives me nuts. I have to put my computer in a drawer or cover it up at night. Does anyone know how to turn the light off? or have it be constant? Is there a download that fixes it?
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy G4 Rev E PowerBook won't wake from sleep. The battery died and the computer slept, but now when I boot it, it gets to 3.5 progress bars and freezes. I have tried rebooting but I can't seem to get out of the resume from sleep mode.
Any ideas? It doesn't show the grey Apple screen like it does from a fresh boot, just the progress bars that show up when the battery dies.
my powerbook keeps going to sleep automatically! i'll be using it one moment, the next it just goes to sleep! it's a 15" powerbook g4 with the latest software updates. i just set it to 'never sleep' in energy saver. hopefully that keeps it from going to sleep all the time. but in the mean time, any one know anything about this prob and what to do?

I am doing some mods (discussed in the marketplace forum) and would like to try to keep that sensor intact if at all possible, but i realized I have no idea where it is located or how it senses that the lid is closed on these.
I searched the forum a bit and found nothing, and can't find anything in google other then sleeping problems... unless I just am horrible at googlin.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to print from my Powerbook G4 to my HP 6500 wireless printer it will not work. I have found out that if I turn off/on the printer then it will print. So, it must be an issue with the computer not waking the printer from a sleep mode. Anyone have a solution to this that doesn't consist of me turning off then on the printer? I have tried to reinstall a few times with no avail.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac (20" 2.4 g, 3 gig ram, os 10.5.6) that has recently stopped waking up after a long night of sleep. I have also found that the mouse and keyboard become unresponsive if the mac does wake up. The mouse has power, but the keyboard does not show any sign of life. The mouse glows red, but when I hit caps-lock, the little green light doesn't come on. I have tried switching ports, but no dice. As I said, the USB port clearly is sending power to the mouse, but not accepting any input. When I restart, all is well on most occassions, but the problem has persisted, once or twice, after a re-boot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a 13" MacBook Air and I'm having an issue with it; googling around I've seen slightly similar problems, but nothing identical to what is going on with mine. I have the trackpad set to use the "tap to click" option in System Preferences and I've noticed that after I sleep the machine and wake it again, something gets bungled with it. The tap to click either stops responding entirely, requiring that I use the regular physical click instead, or it's highly, highly unresponsive. I've seen other reports of erratic clicking and the mouse moving on its own after sleeping the laptop.
Which thankfully mine isn't doing, but I haven't seen anybody reporting this slightly more demure issue. In any event, rebooting the machine fixes the problem completely until I sleep it next. I'm not 100% convinced that this is an Air issue, however, since I think it affected my 15" MacBook Pro to a lesser degree right after I upgraded that machine to 10.6.5, but I can't be entire certain of that since I no longer have that laptop and rarely used it without an external mouse in the first place.
MacPro 12 Core is going into sleep mode (so it seems) and becomes unresponsive requiring a hard reboot by holding the power button. Did this on a new user account I created, then it did it in Recovery Mode while using Disk Utility to repair the drives. I was about to try reinstalling OS X but it seems that this maybe a hardware problem if it happened in Recovery mode. Is my thinking right, or could it still be software? Trying to run Hardware test (D on startup) but can't get it to work so far.

A few weeks ago I upgraded from a regular macbook to a brand new macbook pro 2.66 ghz. I replaced the hard drive right away with a 500gb one (had it done by apple). So my machine runs snow leopard now, I used the data transfer mode to basicly copy the data and apps from my old macbook to the new MBP.
The "problem"
It all worked fine and smooth until a week ago ...For a week now I have a problem that really concerns me. Whenever I open my laptop from a sleep mode he gets really slow and unresponsive to my commands. Its like its crashing, all I can do to get out of this is a hard reboot.
However .. during a reboot OR a cold bootup the MBP gets stuck in the grey screen with only the apple logo .. after a minute or 3 it will start loading but it will never reach the login screen... The strange thing is that when I do reboot it over and over again .. it eventually will boot normally and when it does the MBP runs fine .. until I turn it off or put it in sleep mode .. then the nightmare will start again.
What I have done
I personally suspects the Hard Drive to be the culprit, I get the feeling that the Hard Drive is having trouble starting up or getting out of sleep mode. I am not sure tough.
I have done the following:
- Disc Utility (gives no errors)
- Booting up in terminal and run Disc Utility there (repaired a volume issue)
Could this be a leopard issue? I actually can't remember if this issue happened after the last macOS update or not ..I never had a problem with my iBook and Macbook so I have little experience on troubleshooting. So I hope you more technical experienced users can give me some tips on what to do here.
I leave my imac on at night, from screensaver it goes to a black screen but I have selected that the hard drive never goes to sleep. In the morning when I click the mouse or a button on the keyboard it shows me a frozen screensaver screen and the imac is totally unresponsive. Have run disk utility and everything seems totally fine there. It is impossible to use the force quit option so have to resort to switching the whole thing off from the power button.
The software is all up to date and since disk utility shows everything in perfect working order I am puzzled what this is. A corrupt file or app? I am not a heavy user so no games installed - only software installed is the caffeine app, microsoft office for mac which is compatible with my imac, skype and that's all. Lots of free space on the hard drive too. I am not an expert on macs so I don't know how to look in case something in specific causes this that I can uninstall.

Because it happened to me a few times where the cursor will skip or one time the cursor wont even move or be responsive with my finger. The weird part is that once I exit safari the trackpad seems to work again perfectly. Also not sure if its because I have sweaty hands and my fingers are too wet? But its not something excessively sweaty or nasty just a lil moisture I guess on my finger tips at times.
Update: Never mind, found out the culprit istat pro.
Only way to recover is hard restart. Just downloaded Lion two weeks ago - problem started shortly after.Â

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am pretty new to mac so a little unsure about the issue at hand. I bought an ibook without an OS installed. So I put in a setup CD but cant get it to load by holding C. This initially made me question the CD. But I then realised I wasn't able to eject it by holding fn and f12. Also the caps light wouldn't toggle on and off when I hit it, though I am unsure if this light works when there is no OS installed. My question is: is the keyboard not working?

This keyboard is the dynex from bbuy that's labeled in windows crap but was cheap and works fine on the mac. Unfortunately, everytime the mbp comes out of sleep, the keyboard is unresponsive and i have to set it up again in settings.
Just hoping there's a simple fix and that it's not terminal

I have a Powerbook G4 that I bought used a year ago. It has worked perfectly with no problems at all. Yesterday it started going to sleep randomly during use. It would wake up when the space bar is pressed and be fine for a while. This was happening every 10 - 15 minutes. Since yesterday it has gotten worse and worse, happening more and more often, and now it won't even stay awake long enough to click on something. Any ideas of what could be wrong??? I'm sorry I don't know what operating system or anything, I'm not all that Mac savvy.

I have checked the heat sensor and the one at the trackpad has problems in showing the temp all the time. Furthermore it sometimes vary from 4 degree c to +100 degree c. This looks odd to me since it only occurs in periods.

I've run this puppy pretty hard for a couple of years now, and it's lately started to lag a bit - perfectly natural. I was considering buying a new notebook but I've decided to wait until after Leopard comes. So my question is:
1) How do I determine the max RAM I can put in this machine?
2) Are there are specific specs I need to be concerned with when swapping out the Hard Drive? Any type, size limitations, speed limitations, etc.
I'd love a little input as to how I find out this info. I think instead of taking the notebook plunge now, I'm going to put a nice new hard drive in this one and possibly bump up the RAM a little more if it will take it.
