View 7 RepliesHey guys, i got an old Powerbook that the whole family use to surf the net. I notice its been super slow lately. Ive never had a problem with this notebook, I've only done 2 reinstall in the time ive owned it. I recentluy did another one, and notice its still slow, loading websites is slow, cant watch movies on it. This is a notebook i use to do photoshop and illustrator work on.
Do you think its just its time? I think it could be the hard drive or memory, is there any type of diagnostic i can do to find out what the problem is?
I am new here but have been using Mac machines since 5 years however the problem I am having these days is driving me crazy and I can't seem to find a solution.
Basically every time I try to watch a Flash related streaming website [URL] my computer crashes (I have read of browsers crashing before but not an actual crash by the entire Computer, scary) and I must reboot pressing the Power button.
I am almost sure it is a Flash issue because of three things: first, I thought this could have been some sort of Virus and decided to format my Computer (late 2006, iMac Power PC, version OS X 10.4.11, 2.16 GHZ Intel Core Duo) only to later find out that the problem was still there, second because when viewing the actual stream I have opened Activity Monitor and noticed how the % of CPU was absolutely above any acceptable average for the browser I was viewing the live stream with (touched 94% on [URL] and [URL]) and was still very high but not high enough to cause the crash for YouTube (about 45%) and last but not least when I uninstalled Flash my Computer was going very well and showed no sign of problem.
This happens with both Safari and Firefox and I have no idea on how to solve it.
I watch Baseball games and live streams very often and this is causing me a serious headache! I have tried to downgrade to Flash Version 9 but [URL] requires Version 10 and for other websites the issue was still there.
I'm fed up with all the good videos on a certain adult website disappearing after a couple of days. How can I download and save them to my MBP?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell, I am considering buying the new MacBook or the MacBook Pro. I currently have a whitebook and I would like to ask the alu MacBook users the following question. Is the alu MacBook fans going really laud when you visit web sites with flash videos or when you watch youtube videos. I am asking that because my whitebook is getting laud as hell then I perform the above actions and if the alubook is doing the same I am considering buying the Pro, which is match more quite.
View 15 Replies View RelatedA lot of times, when I close the flash intense web sites, my fans won't stop running until I go into activity monitor and force quit flash. This is very irritating and kills my battery life. I feel like I am constantly playing the sims 3 even if I am not doing anything. Also, are there varying levels of how much flash you're using? For example, if you're on youtube is that just as bad as being on macrumors and looking at flash based ad banners?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn websites that use flash player for video chat I just can't send my video stream trough my external usb Ligitech webcam.
The situation is: when opening the Adobe Flash Player settings menu-video-select I tend to send webcam video I only have the option of sending trough the "USB video class video": the isight built-in webcam of my MacBook and don't have my Logitech webcam on the list.
The fact is: I have an external usb webcam (Logitech and works with mac) and the Flash Player video options don't allow me to choose the Logitech webcam instead of the iSight buil-in webcam.
Do you have or know any solution/add on/software to my problem? I'm getting crazy with that! I just wanna tell to my MacBook to run always the Logitech webcam instead of the iSigth built-in webcam when I'm on websites that use Flash Player for video chat.
My powerbook started having trouble playing videos or loading websites with flash content. Then it started flickering like a strobe light whenever the screen was predominately white or similar light color. Within several days my screen went black! I assumed my screen had gone out on me. I hooked it up to a HP monitor which I am using right now. It displays fine on there. But I cannot stand being mobilized! I am going to buy a new Macbook or Macbook Pro. When they update. However, it would be amazing if I could use my Powerbook as a laptop, until then. That is when I discovered if I hold down the F2 key to make the screen light up it will light up for..... 2-3 seconds before flickering and fading to black. The fact its able to light up at all, leads me to believe the screen is not completely gone. Does this sound like the videocard to anyone else. I really don't want to buy one and find out its not it. And anything else to try and fix wouldn't be worth the money.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Mac Book Pro. I have had a PC for years. I've discovered that Apple doesn't allow flash player and I have membership in two greeting card websites. Now that I've already paid a yearly membership in both, I'm out of the money and I can't send cards.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Dual 2 Ghz G5 with 10.5.8 loaded on it, yet I'm getting very slow flash performance. The PC that I'm typing on is a $300 Toshiba with a celeron processor but it does a great job with flash (safari/firefox/IE across the board). Is there a remedy for this? I googled one tip that said to disable hardware acceleration, but it didn't make a difference. When I opened up the Activity Monitor, processor usage was up to 100-150%, so something is not right, the G5 should chew through this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a second hand MBP from a friend, its one of the older models with the silver keyboard, has 2.33 GHz intel core duo processor, 2GB ram, 160GB HD and runs fine. I have one problem though, when I load flash games or when I try to play a flash game it slows right down and runs slower than crawling speed. Is there any way I can speed it up or will it always be like this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedFlash on Safari 4 was very quick, but after my update to Safari 5, all flash games slowed down. A flash game which I play very often is 'Restaurant City' on Facebook. Try it out and tell me what you experience using safari 5. I have no problems if I used Mozilla on my mbp, but once I use Safari, I need 5 seconds to press a single button in the game.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.6.4 with the newest flash 10.1, and when I load a page on safari or firefox with a flash video on it on my iMac the scrolling on the page doesn't work and the video takes about 5 minutes before I can press play. I have tried running different versions or flash (uninstalling old ones and things) but nothing fixes it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had this issue for a while. No matter what I try, Flash movies are SLOW on my 1.5GHz PowerBook G4. I have 1.5GB of RAM, Leopard, and the latest Flash (Flash 9). Every video and game that I run in Flash is choppy unless I set the quality to "low". This occurs in Safari, Camino, and the standalone Flash Player application itself.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently installed the CS3 studio. Everything is working fine but Flash is taking way too long to get back to work if I switch between applications.
Assume I have a file open in flash, click back to the desktop and click back from there to flash, it takes about a minute (with the spinning wheel) for flash to "un-freeze" and lets me working on my file again. Basically every time I leave flash and come back to it, I have to wait for it to gather stuff and get back on track for about a minute. Who can work like that?
I have plenty of memory, latest OSx and not using unusually large files. Have an iMac.
I have been googeling this issue but couldn't find anything.
I do not have any of these problems with the other parts of CS3 (PS/AI/ID etc), only with flash!
PS: Is it possible it has to do with fonts (about 300 of them) that I had recently installed?
When i copy files to my usb flash drive, the speed is very slow.It may take a few minutes to copy a 350mb file. I have formatted the drive to mac os extended. I had formated it to fat 32 with the same results.
I have mac os x, lion, the latest update, this has been happening for the last few months, can't remember when did the problem started.

I have a two year old Mac Pro ( 2GB memory and 2GB RAM) which up until now has worked very well, extremely well really. Alas for some inexplicable reason it has decided to takes it's time coming out of the starting gate. It has gone from around 15 seconds to around 5 minutes. So far I have eliminated apps which I have not been using as well as a few startup items that I didn't really need.I have cleaned up my desktop so that there is only one Icon on it.
I have also de-fragged my startup drive.I have used Disk Utility which tells me that the disc is fine, and it seems to be working just fine when it is up and running. I have also unplugged my firewire and USB connections. I have run my cron scripts deleted all rotated log files and repaired disc permissions. Maybe I didn't need to, but heck, who knows, I am no expert. Maybe a reinstall may solve the problem or resetting the Pram may work. I don't really know for sure but I'll try anything just in case.
My MacBook Pro 8.1 (Mac OS X 10.7). It started when i download Mackeeper, i was late when i read all messages thru apple communities that mainly cause of running slow is due to mackeeper. Now am having problems to uninstall it, cannot be remove anymore.

I want to create a simple flash movie (I don't yet own or know how to use Adobe Flash). Pretty flowers in the background, inspirational music, passages from the Bible or something fading in an out... you know the schtick. Maybe convert it to a screen saver.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to read news sites and my eye is distracted by things bouncing around in adverts. It's even worse when they're playing obnoxious sounds until you click the mute button in them. Therefore I just thought I'd let people know about this wonderful piece of software. I've seen it mentioned a few times here but even if this thread only helps a few people I think it'll be worth it:[URL]Not only does it hide these horrific insults to humanity (ok a bit strong perhaps), it actually prevents them loading, therefore your pages load quicker! And it's completely unobtrusive! If you want to watch flash file, simply click on in.

View 2 Replies View Relatedwatch Youtube vids using H.264 MP4 codec instead of flash. As most of the videos I watch are recent uploads (last year or so) they have SQ and HQ H.264 version available. As Flash eats up system resources worse then anything I can think of at the moment, I am trying to find a way to force the videos to play in MP4 format. I know ClicktoFlash has this option for Safari, but I am trying to find out if there are any other ways to do this without user input (for playlists). I use YousableTubeFixURL for Chrome and Firefox which has the option to do this, but no matter what option I choose, it always plays using Flash. I know FF doesnt have a built in MP4 player, but I though I heard of a way to get VLC or Quicktime to play it.

I have upgraded from a OX 2.8 to 3.9. I now have to use two browsers to use the internet. Safari to have access to my yahoo mail account, and fire fox 2.020 to load information on my business website.
I have not been able to use shockwave flash or flash player on the up load. When I was using OSX 2.8 I could add pictures to my business website and etc., I had no problem viewing the slide show I had on my website, other than the system was a little slow. I have an ibook G3 128 +512 ram, total. 900 mhz, 12. inches and white case. The systems requirements indicate that I need to upgrade to tiger OSX 4.0
I know there are some issues using Fire Fox with OSX 3.9. When ever I tried to access my yahoo mail from Fire fox, the system would crash.
Other than getting a new laptop, any suggestions? I tried to down load Shock wave from the old apps web site called Camino. I get an error message that the plug in cannot be loaded sussfully I have tried load flash Player 7.09, but get a message that it can not load. Could this be because of not enough space on the drive. Maybe I am not loading it correctly. Shouldn't I be able to click it to install it in the right place without having to try the different files.
I hate Flash. It?s crass, it?s loud, it?s obnoxious, and on a Mac it is a literal drag on the machine, sucking up the CPU and memory as if there?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am copying my DVD collection to the computer to be able to play on an iPod and a mac mini hooked up to the hdtv. Mainly TV shows.I have a Mac Pro with 2 DVD drives. The first one is the original drive (Pioneer DVR-111D) and the second is a Pioneer DVR-116D which I added. I intended to use this 2nd drive mainly for ripping DVDs because I knew I would have to update the firmware to get rid of riplock.
On the DVR-116D drive, I updated the firmware to remove riplock so it would not be limited to 5x read. I have not updated the firmware on the original DVR-111D drive. I am using fairmount to rip the DVD.Under OS X just ripping the DVD to the hard drive takes maybe 20-30 minutes. MacTheRipper is just as slow as is making a disk image using disk utility. I boot into Vista and use DVD Extractor and the same DVD takes 7 or 8 minutes .
Why is it so slow or is there a faster method of ripping a DVD on OS X?
