MacBook Pro :: Running So Slow On Startup And Apps Are Very Slow To Open Like Around 5 Minutes
Aug 24, 2014I have this MBP 13'' Mac OS X 10.7.5 running a 2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAMs and 500GB storage.The problem started yesterday when I was typing on Word and I copy pasted something from the net (chrome browser) then it froze.I waited for around 5minutes and still frozen with the spinning wheel, then I decided to turn it off by pressing power for 10 seconds restarted my
MBP then now it running so slow on start-up and apps are very slow to open like around 5 minutes. Every action that I try to do like clicking on the apple in the upper left it freezes showing a spinning wheel and it will take time to show the drop down options. I checked disk utility and it said that HD is ok, done verify/permission verify and repair.
I checked the activity monitor noting the ram/CPU usage and its normal it even tells that 2GB of ram is not use.It shows not responding in the activity monitor if you open an app for around 5mins then it opens or it will crash.I already done the 2 kinds of reset and did not work.BUT it opens normally in Safe mode.Â

MacBook Pro :: Not Accessing Some Secure Websites
Jun 6, 2014Have updated clock and Apple ID locations.For some reason I am not able to access some bank websites from my Macbook, I just get a "Safari can't open the page "xxxxx" because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "xxxxxxx". I can access these sites on the same network with my iPad. These are the options I have eliminated:Â
BROWSER: Tried Safari, Firefox, Chrome. all with the same result (different message of course).
MODEM: I have connected the Macbook to different wifi networks (home and at work) with the same result, so it is not a modem issue. Â
I currently write this post at work on a Mac Mini. The Mac Mini CAN access these websites without issue.This leads me to conclude that something deep in the duldrums of the MacBook itself is preventing access to these types of websites.Macbook Pro is late 2012 model running Mavericks 10.9.3..Work Mac Mini is running Lion 10.7.5Â

Jun 20, 2014I'm verifying such an annoying problem, mostly at startup that appears to solve automatically after OS Mavericks is running. Â
Sometimes my iMac boot until the login windows in 45 seconds which is very good, but most of times I have to wait 30-40 minutes for the login windows to appears
and everything is running so slowly then. Â

IMac (Intel) :: Very Slow On Startup And Opening Apps?
Jun 20, 2014I have an iMac and it is about 4 years old. For some reason it is very slow starting up, takes about 90 seconds. Opening even a normal app like Firefox takes sometimes 2 minutes.Â
I had the harddrive replaced as part of one of the recall programmes form Apple as the OEM drive was malfunctioning, that made it slightly better, but soon after the old poor performance was back.Â

Dec 11, 2010Hey guys, i got an old Powerbook that the whole family use to surf the net. I notice its been super slow lately. Ive never had a problem with this notebook, I've only done 2 reinstall in the time ive owned it. I recentluy did another one, and notice its still slow, loading websites is slow, cant watch movies on it. This is a notebook i use to do photoshop and illustrator work on.
Do you think its just its time? I think it could be the hard drive or memory, is there any type of diagnostic i can do to find out what the problem is?

Jun 14, 2012I await my next gen MBP, I'm starting to be concerned that 95% of the web and non-optimized apps are go into look.How will the new display handle non-optimized content? Given that is very expensive notebook is going to be a relatively small market, I can't imagine web and app designers ate going to spend anlot of effort optimizing things for such a relatively small number of users.So, will existing web sites look as good as they do now on conventional displays...and the optimized sites and apps (like I'm sure Apple will roll out) look amazing?
I've read a bit about this, but most reviews say things like "until web designers update their graphics, things will remain fuzzy".

MacBook Air :: Slow Opening Apps - Slow Read Speed?
Apr 17, 2009I'm finding my MBA rev b to be quite slow opening apps, I bought the 1.6 ghz 120gb model.
It seems like everything's rather slow to open. I have 30gb free on the hard drive, iTunes, Safari (5 tabs) TextWrangler and mail open all day.
If I ever need to go into Firefox it takes a fair while to get up and running. I ran some xbench scores and it seems very slow on the random reads, oddly it was much quicker writing to the disk than reading.
Is their anyone in the know who can confirm that this is normal? Or if not, is there anything I can do to give it a boost?

Mar 28, 2012I have a Macbook Pro core 2 duo era 2007, OS 10.6.8, with an interesting problem I've not encountered in reading other issues. Here's the system profile, to get that out of the way: [code] Enabled Other than the faulty video card that seems standard for this run of the Pro, I have never had an issue. I have just replaced the battery from the original battery that came with the computer. It was useless to the extent of the word, but my budget did not allow me to purchase a new battery until recently. The battery info only stated "Replace Now" and the LED meter no longer functioned. The battery held no charge, and the computer only ran off of wall power. Up until a few days before I replaced the battery, this provided no trouble. However, it began one day to startup extremely slowly (5 minutes or more on the Apple logo startup screen, and then more time to load dock/top screen toolbar/etc. It also failed to recognize the external HD I frequently use with this computer. My theory was that it was simply underpowered on account of the failed battery, and the internal HD or the CPU was just not able to run properly. I finally put a new battery in hoping that it would fix the issue, but no avail. My startup time seems slightly less, but it seems as if the computer has not loaded interface protocols, as the computer is unresponsive to attempts to open the dock or a finder window, or even hover over battery or volume icons. After 5-10 minutes it finally kicks in and I can use my computer without problem, with the exception of the external HD, which will still not load.I have run disk utility, verified my HD, no errors reported. I have the activity monitor up which shows a pretty minimal load on the CPU and disk usage. Nothing I can think of would explain the problem my computer has suddenly adopted.

Apr 16, 2010I don't think I've got anything blocked as far as a firewall goes. I've tried connecting to [URL] and [URL] and it won't connect. Other sites work fine. I tried my neighbor's W-LAN and I couldn't connect either but he connected to squarespace on his macbook pro, so I think it's something with my computer and not my apartment's W-LAN connection.

Jun 28, 2014I can't get my macbook air to connect to some website. Most are running fine but the few that dont work say that they cant connnect. I've cleared my cache and when I try to look them up on disk utility it comes up as "Request time out". The only solutions I've seen is to turn off IVP6 but I don't have that option, I can only switch it to local only and that still doesnt work. I've cleared my cache and restarted I dont know what else to do.

Mar 12, 2012Is there a way to prevent apps from accessing files that are in the trash? I recently got bit when I moved some files to the trash, checked to make sure that nothing was broken, and then took out the trash. Turned out some applications were still using the files while they were in the trash. Is there a way, either in terminal or finder, to leave the files in the trash but make it so no apps can see them? It would be nice if this was the normal behavior.

I'm having trouble connecting my Mac to a network server at my office in order to access a shared drive on the network. I can't seem to identify the network share path to fill in the Server Address: field on the Connect to Server window. I have the IP address for the server but am uncertain if it's the same thing as it doesn't seem to be working. Also, I'm not certain what drive syntax the network is running on; whether it's a ftp, afp, or smb.

3.1TB HD has got more than 400gb free space.

Problems: Â
1.Startup tooooooooo slow, take more than 1 hour
2.Extreamly slow on tasks. Without any apps opened, every single click, it turned into the 'colorful fan', for instance, open finder, it took more than five mins, and it's not only the finder, it's EVERYTHING!!!!Â
What I have done so far:Â
1.I have reduced the login items
2.I have changed the password login to the automatic login
3.I have tried verify disk permission, verify disk, repair disk permission and repair disk
4.Unplug all unnecessary items(monitor, external drive etc.)
5.Run couple of time of 'clean my Mac', get rid of all the trash.
6.Cleaned the cacheÂ
Due to the ridiculous, frustrating startup, that's all I could do, however, none of them worked.
Now I am using recovery HD to reinstall Lion from a disc, but I don't know if it'll work or not.Â
I don't have another Mac, I don't have backups(don't want to lose my data),that's my situation.

May 11, 2008I have three computers on my home network; A dual 1.8 G5 with Leopard, a Macbook Pro with Leopard, and a Windows XP Box. My problem with Safari started about 3 months ago, when I tried accessing a website via my g5. Safari said it could not connect to the server. I assumed the site was down. However, I hopped on my MBP and the site worked fine. In fact, I found a lot of sites that my G5 didn't want to access that my MBP could, on the same network. I have flushed my DNS cache, reset safari, cleared safari's cache, reset my router, cable modem, checked the DNS servers. Everything seems identical between the MBP and the g5. The problem happens in both Safari and Firefox

If I am able to connect briefly to a neighbor's wireless, the websites work fine. I just reset the modem a few minutes ago and the problem hasn't gone away. Apr 22, 2010I am buying a new MBP as soon as I can make up my mind which one. I will be using Photoshop and Lightroom for my photo editing. I know a SSD is speedy for start up and launching apps. Does it also increase the speed at which the apps like Photoshop actually run once they are launched? I'm thinking about buying the base 2.4GHz and adding 4BGB and a 160GB SSD drive. I like the small 13" form factor. It will easily fit into my camera back pack. I'm thinking a SSD would be faster for quick field editing photo's helping to make up for the slower CPU. This would be for the field. I'm waiting for the new MP to come out. That machine would be for my "heavy lifting" work flow at home.

OS X :: Internet Working But Cannot Connect To Websites
Nov 1, 2010My Internet connection is working fine, I can connect to adium, download a torrent, use an FTP client etc without problems. When I use Safari or any other browser I can't connect to any sites. I us usually get an error stating that it can't establish a connection or find the server. I'm using a Time Capsule as my router, I've tried resetting my modem, the Time Capsule, restarting the computer. The internet is fine, I'm connecting to adium etc, but the browser won't connect, when it does I can use the browser for a hour or 5 minutes, it's random. I've ride resetting the DHCP numerous times, the majority of the time it does nothing.

Jul 28, 2009One day I could log in to any site using firefox, the next I couldn't log into anything. I type the password and username, when I click on "log in" nothing happens. It says "done" at the bottom left, but nothing has happened. Safari works fine. I would just get by, however after creating a website in IWeb I discovered anything FTP related will not work.
I have tried lots of different FTP clients such as (Transmit, cyber duck, firezilla, cross ftp) but nothing works. The passwords etc are all correct as they work on my mac at work. The only change I've made is installing little snitch, however nothing is restricted related with anything that would affect the current problem. I have tried usual suspects such as deleting cookie, erasing private data etc.

Aug 9, 2009I am new to Mac and have been struggling with this issue for the last week or so: there are a few websites I cannot access anymore (such as www.westpac.com.au, www.telstra.com.au, www.optus.com.au and a few others). As far as I can guess it is not:strictly *.au website related (or at least I think) because I can access some others *.au websites and some other in *.com or *.fr don't work either. My ISP (iinet in Australia) as the websites mentioned above work from my PC when I connect it from home. Below the result from a PING on the first 2 websites in the list above:

I have this issue from both my iMac and my Macbook Air, on which I have set up no firewall or other specific filter. I am using a Belkin modem, on which I have desactivated the WiFi to use a TimeCapsule as a WiFi router. I get the same issue when I try to connect from Safari, Firefox or Chrome. I have exhausted all tips and tricks I have from the PC word.

May 10, 2012I was going to do some homework on Google Docs, and the login page would not load! It would simply try to connect for a while, then time out.After some experimenting, I noticed this happened with all secure web pages (https://), and that non-secure websites (http://) loaded fine. This happens in all browers. I tested Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.Now, this only happens on my user account. This does not happen on my moms account, which I am currently on.We initially thought it was an issue with the parental controls, so we completely disabled them. But the problem still persists.

Jan 24, 2010i am a graphic designer and am very familiar with most applictions but not the technical side of things. Basically i have a white macbook which is about 3.5 years old, it has been running very slow for some time now and fails to complete very simple tasks, for instance when opening adobe photoshop or illustrator, both CS2, simply creating a new document can take minutes as with resizing images etc. illustrator and photoshop will not run together, one will 'unexpectidly quit' word takes atleast half hour to save an essay applications bounce forever before opening beach balls at the smallest task apps crash

May 3, 2012I've tried every trick I can think of within my current technical competency and I'm stumped for what to try next.Lately I've had some odd behaivour with it that may or may not be related or even significant...Finder hanging semi-regularly.Different programs preventing shut down.My volume randomly going up and down like the keys are being pushed (possibly a remote issue related to my recently purchased Apple TV, though not actually being used at the time of incendents?)
Current Issues Suddenly this week it feels like everything's causing trouble. Issues inclue...Various programs crashing or hanging (Firefox, Finder, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. - seems non-specific). Finder in particular I can't even get to reboot sometimes.Finder sometimes not loading view of files in folders, no spinning loading wheel either.Power cable light went amber for a period yesterday even though the MBP was at full power and plugged in all day.Photoshop file I created and know was working fine yesterday suddenly had an 'unexpected end-of-file error' today suggesting it wasn't saved properly and is since corrupted.Everything is running painfully slow, even when it works. Things I've changed latelyThe only things I can think of that I've done differently lately are these...
Upgraded my Dropbox to 100gb and started working with large artwork files directly from there.Changed the settings on my Airport Express Base Station at my office, which my MBP is set to try and connect to when possible. Remedies I've triedRebooting numerous times.Zapping the P-ram, which wont even work at the moment. Even with holding in the power button the MBP just loads to the login screen as per usual.Rebooting in safe mode.Emptying the trash can.Running iAntivirus to scan for viruses which came up clear.Repaired Disk and Repaired Disk Permissions.Run Spring Cleaning to clean System Caches.Cleared more space on my hard drive.Updated all software I'm completely out of ideas and I'm still none the wiser as to what the actual issue is.
