OS X :: Mac Crashes With Flash Related Websites?
Jun 2, 2009
I am new here but have been using Mac machines since 5 years however the problem I am having these days is driving me crazy and I can't seem to find a solution.
Basically every time I try to watch a Flash related streaming website [URL] my computer crashes (I have read of browsers crashing before but not an actual crash by the entire Computer, scary) and I must reboot pressing the Power button.
I am almost sure it is a Flash issue because of three things: first, I thought this could have been some sort of Virus and decided to format my Computer (late 2006, iMac Power PC, version OS X 10.4.11, 2.16 GHZ Intel Core Duo) only to later find out that the problem was still there, second because when viewing the actual stream I have opened Activity Monitor and noticed how the % of CPU was absolutely above any acceptable average for the browser I was viewing the live stream with (touched 94% on [URL] and [URL]) and was still very high but not high enough to cause the crash for YouTube (about 45%) and last but not least when I uninstalled Flash my Computer was going very well and showed no sign of problem.
This happens with both Safari and Firefox and I have no idea on how to solve it.
I watch Baseball games and live streams very often and this is causing me a serious headache! I have tried to downgrade to Flash Version 9 but [URL] requires Version 10 and for other websites the issue was still there.

Recently, YouTube freezes and causes my browser to shutdown. I've tried it with both Safari and Firefox. This is the only time they do this.

Has it been anyone's experience here that Flash based web sites run slowly in flash. Even Macromedia's new site is clunky as H*&L.

Well, I am considering buying the new MacBook or the MacBook Pro. I currently have a whitebook and I would like to ask the alu MacBook users the following question. Is the alu MacBook fans going really laud when you visit web sites with flash videos or when you watch youtube videos. I am asking that because my whitebook is getting laud as hell then I perform the above actions and if the alubook is doing the same I am considering buying the Pro, which is match more quite.

A lot of times, when I close the flash intense web sites, my fans won't stop running until I go into activity monitor and force quit flash. This is very irritating and kills my battery life. I feel like I am constantly playing the sims 3 even if I am not doing anything. Also, are there varying levels of how much flash you're using? For example, if you're on youtube is that just as bad as being on macrumors and looking at flash based ad banners?

On websites that use flash player for video chat I just can't send my video stream trough my external usb Ligitech webcam.
The situation is: when opening the Adobe Flash Player settings menu-video-select I tend to send webcam video I only have the option of sending trough the "USB video class video": the isight built-in webcam of my MacBook and don't have my Logitech webcam on the list.
The fact is: I have an external usb webcam (Logitech and works with mac) and the Flash Player video options don't allow me to choose the Logitech webcam instead of the iSight buil-in webcam.
Do you have or know any solution/add on/software to my problem? I'm getting crazy with that! I just wanna tell to my MacBook to run always the Logitech webcam instead of the iSigth built-in webcam when I'm on websites that use Flash Player for video chat.

My powerbook started having trouble playing videos or loading websites with flash content. Then it started flickering like a strobe light whenever the screen was predominately white or similar light color. Within several days my screen went black! I assumed my screen had gone out on me. I hooked it up to a HP monitor which I am using right now. It displays fine on there. But I cannot stand being mobilized! I am going to buy a new Macbook or Macbook Pro. When they update. However, it would be amazing if I could use my Powerbook as a laptop, until then. That is when I discovered if I hold down the F2 key to make the screen light up it will light up for..... 2-3 seconds before flickering and fading to black. The fact its able to light up at all, leads me to believe the screen is not completely gone. Does this sound like the videocard to anyone else. I really don't want to buy one and find out its not it. And anything else to try and fix wouldn't be worth the money.

I recently purchased a Mac Book Pro. I have had a PC for years. I've discovered that Apple doesn't allow flash player and I have membership in two greeting card websites. Now that I've already paid a yearly membership in both, I'm out of the money and I can't send cards.

I have a Macbook 2.4ghz core 2 duo running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I've been having massive problems when uploading files both on a Wireless and LAN connection. When I try and upload to a site like myspace, facebook or anyother site with uploading options my upload times out and/or crashes the browser for a while (this is for larger files whereas photos don't upload in full). This seems to be primarily with flash/java upload options and happens when using Safari, Firefox and Opera. So far I've re-installed 10.6.2 and repaired disk permissions and also re-installed flash and none of these options makes any difference. I know it's not a network issue as it works perfectly on my 1ghz e-mac running Leopard Anyone got any solutions? It's completely baffled me.

After updating my system to 10.7.4, the flash plugin crashes in both Safari and Firefox. Videos don;t so much as start. I reverted back to 10.7.3 with time machine and flash workes fine again. Reinstalled the update, and broken again. Safari and Firefox are all up to date as well as the flash plugin. All caches have been cleared. Based on info I have gotten from this and other forums, I have checked all the settings in the flash system preferences.

I am using a mid 2009 Macbook pro, and just updated to 10.7.4. Since doing this my Flash plugin crashes on both Safari and Firefox so I can't even load Youtube videos. I've got the most updated version of Firefox and Flash player, and after looking through forums have tried rebooting my Macbook several times. Each time I reboot Youtube videos load a little bit more without crashing, but I havn't got more than 5 seconds into a video yet.

I've experienced several crashes with Safari 5.0, and noticed something about the dialogue box that appears when it crashes. It says something to the effect of, "The problem could be caused by a Flash plugin." Has that dialogue box been around in previous versions of Safari? Is Apple trying to subtly gain support for their view that Flash should no longer be used?

I don't have access to the marketplace forum here (not enough posts), I don't want to support ebay/paypal if I can avoid it, and I live in a smaller market area so craigslist is a bit iffy does anyone have any suggestions on avenues where I might be able to easily sell a Mac Pro-related item?
If it were an iMac or MacBook related item, no problem but the Mac Pro isn't as popular a product, so finding someone interested seems like it might be more difficult.

Is there an application out there that will put the name of current song I'm playing in my menu bar, so I can see what the song is without having to stop what I'm doing bring the iTunes window up and then bring the window I was working in back the the front? It's such a hassle doing that, and some application that does as I described would be great.

So I've had my iMac about a week now. I started a thread about not having any freezes. Well this weekend I experienced two. Both of which occurred while using iTunes (once while importing my old library into iTunes from an external USB drive, and once just having iTunes open). Not much rhyme or reason to the freezes nothing in the crash logs. This is slightly depressing, since the replacements people are getting seem to freeze as well. I still don't think this is Wi-Fi related. I just think there's a serious conflict between the ATI 4850 chip and the rest of the hardware. This is pretty much unacceptable for a new machine.

i have a 2.2GHZ intel core duo 2007 MBP, which once ran Tiger and is now running 10.6.3I had the graphic card break down associated with such models, and it was replaced thanks to the extended care plan-I originally had 1Gig of ram, but 1st got an extra 2Gb of danelec ram, and finally another 2GB- it ran fine for a year or so-then I started getting these kernel panics, which seem to be ram related-on tiger- I changed the HDD, switched to snow leopard, and they continue, they're apparently RAM related, yet what is odd is that they can be reproduced with any RAM combination involving 2 sticks- the original apple 1Gb + any of the two GB ram sticks, the 2GB ram sticks together-- it's all the same, the screen goes grey and i'm told to shut down the computer
with one ram stick it works, apprently avoiding the issue-i've moved the ram around, checked the slots, reset the PRAM,yet the issue is still there.now i know that I should be using paired ram, and will do so in the next coming months when I can afford it- yet what has happened to make the make the MBP seemingly refuse two sticks of RAM when it didn't before ?I'd also need to know that this is not a logicboard issue if it's possible- the logic board was changed due to the NVDIA bug, so it's a year old or so-I'm running it on the 2GB danelec as I type, no issue, the samsung ram works as well, and so does the 1GB apple ram, in any slot, yet two slots of ram causes the kernel panic crash- the area near the ram slot also seems to get very hot

I've been working on a lot of projects lately, and I've noticed that my files are getting scattered all over my HDD. I'm just not thinking about organization right now, I'm thinking about getting the projects done as quickly as possible. I have found the Smart Folder interesting because of this recently. My question is how can I tag my Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Cinema 4D, After Effects, JPEGs, PNGs, Final Cut, and any other file type to show up in the Smart Folder for the same project? This way I'll just be able to open the smart folder and bang, everything for the project is in that folder. Less worrying about organization, more focusing on work!

I'm a switcher from PC since March, and I thought I had become fairly proficient with OSX. There is a lot I don't know and never use, but I find my Mac experience to be very positive. Yesterday I discovered that I may have been using the Dock incorrectly. Here's what I did, what happened, and the obvious need for some clarification. I did not want the dock to become too busy with many app icons, so I created a folder for my favorite photo applications; Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, Bridge, and some Canon camera and printing programs. I liked the idea that I could just click on the one folder and it would fan open with all of the related apps. So, I simply dragged apps to the folder, and for months it seemed to work very well.
Yesterday I tried a Panorama feature in Photoshop Elements, and it was grayed out. So, I went to the Adobe PSE Forums and posted a message. A few very knowledgeable people answered, and we tried to troubleshoot the problem. We looked at permissions on the apps, and other stuff. At one point, I clicked on the app from within Finder, and it opened with the feature back where it belonged. I then went to the folder and by accessing there, it was gone. I'm not sure in which order this happened, but I did get a message that the app had been moved from its original location and needed to update itself. When I reported this to the export I was admonished that you can't add an app to a folder, you need to make an alias.
I trashed the folder and tried to redo it, but I recreated the same problem. So, I instead opened the applications from Finder and kept them pinned to the dock. They now work, but they clutter up the Dock. What surprised me was that in the Dock tutorials I saw on the Apple site and the other Dock related stuff I read elsewhere, it seemed as if simply dragging apps to the dock or folders on the dock was the correct procedure. If I did not do it right, what steps would I need to go through to create a folder on the Dock with related apps?

So I've installed a few applications here and there that haven't really worked like I wanted them to. I recently installed Parallels and I hated it. I deleted everything I could find but when I search "Parallels" in my finder a bunch of other stuff appears. Is that all related to Parallels, is it okay to delete them all, or not? The only reason it bothers me is because my computer used to shut down literally 5 times faster than it has been since I install Parallels. I think maybe that was the problem and if I delete everything I can find related to Parallels it will shutdown faster.

I just had the original HD on my iMac fail suddenly. Apple was great in getting me a replacement quickly. My question concerns the normal operating temperature for the iMac's CPU before versus after the replacement of the HD.I use smcFanControl just to monitor the CPU temps. During the two years I used the original HD, the CPU temp never exceeded 140F. Within two days of running the replacement HD, the temp has been up to 152F several times.
I have great faith in the engineering that Apple put into the iMac, but on the other hand, I did just have the original HD die on me. Recognizing that this could have happened for a myriad of reasons unconnected to CPU temps, I nevertheless wonder about the correlation between HD health and CPU temp.

I am getting very slow UI response in Lion. (iMac 27", 3 GHz, dual core i5 processor, 8 GB ram, 250 GB free on HD). SmartReporter says disk is operating in spec (ie no alarms). Opening disk folder takes 5 seconds to get a spinning beach ball, with another 5 or more seconds to get the folder open. Also slow on directory scan during file opening dialogs. Even get the delay when opening USB drives.
OS 10.7.3, with Apache running, and the usual load of extensions operating. But what I find irritating is that Activity Monitor reports CPU at 25 %, HD occassionally spiking to 100%, but not often, and still I seem to get these unexplained delays. Not fun. Turned off 'disk sleep' in energy saver preferences. Seemed to help for a while. Now not. Reinstalled OS X twice from store and with a USB download stick. Get wierd errors on Console: "5/6/12 5:20:31.000 PM kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero".
Killing Safari/Flash via Activity Monitor makes a small amount of speed difference, but not much.Any comments? Suggestions? Is this a general issue with Lion? Are there any profiling S/W diagnostics that might suggest where the processor is spending its time?

The problem is that my mac cannot connected to google related website(including "www.google.com","youtube.com",map and other websites), I list some detail points bellow.
1. I have tried both safari and Chrome. They both didn't work, so it should not because of the browser.
2. I have tried to use an iPhone, which was in the same wifi, to access these websites, and it worked well. Thus it should not because of the website connection.
3. I user "terminal" to ping "www.google.com", there is no data transmitted. By the way, it works well with other websites like Facebook except google related
4. Surprisingly, it can access google through "www.google.com.au" and some IP address.
I attach some pictures to illustrate this!

Ever since the 10.5.7 update I've been getting issues with my macbook, this a new one. I've looked around google for any other similar incidents and there have been but none with a solution so I figured I would ask here. At random times my screen starts making noise, I say my screen because if I dim the brightness to zero it stops, and the brighter I get the higher the pitch, the lower brightness - lower pitch.

I deleted the bundle from /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins, but aren't there any system-related files that need to be removed as well?
