Software :: DMG Files Are Being Saved As EXE
May 18, 2008When I download and save files on my desktop that are made for MAC these are saved as .exe making it impossible to install (.dmg files become .exe!).

OS X :: Files Saved To Desktop Not Visible
Sep 1, 2007I recently discovered that files saved onto desktop would not be visible. Whenever I save a photoshop document, recieve an adium file transfer, or take a screenshot with command shift 3, etc., it does not show on the desktop. However, if I drag and drop files from other folders onto the desktop or drag a picture in firefox onto the desktop, it shows.
I've tried these but the files wouldn't show:
-Sorting files by filename in the view options.
-Opening the desktop folder in finder.
-Renaming the files in terminal.
When I do these, the files would show:
-Restart the computer.
-If I list the desktop directory in terminal with the ls command, the files are visible.
-Move the file in terminal to another directory, the file is visible with finder.
-Dragging the above file onto desktop, the file shows.
I recently installed WinXP with bootcamp, wonder if that caused the problem.
OS X :: PSD / JPEG Files Saved On CD Not Readable On Mac
Feb 26, 2009I have saved about 300 photos on CD from a Windows Vista PC in PSD and JPEG formats. When I tried to insert the CD to my Macbook it says that it is not readable. Is there any way I can get the files to work on my Mac Photoshop or any other programme on Mac?

May 9, 2012On several sites i use it asks me to download the .pdf file from within an article. It will appear as it should on screen, but when trying to save it to the desktop or print it, a blank (white) screen appearts and neither is working.Same happens in Firefox.

Jun 21, 2012i opened up my video in quicktime pro and trimmed it down to around 15 seconds of video that i need, and it plays fine. but the problem is, when i save it as an .mov file and open it, there's only audio on it, with a grey screen.

Running XPress7.2 on a Mac OSX 4.11, which is running out of RAM sometimes, and my colleagues are finding edits our lead designer enters and saves disappearing from permanent file. It seems the editing rounds are missing only a fraction of the edits, too many to be explained by operator error, and distributed throughout a project stage. For example, if they save 60 text changes in a day, they might find 10 undone the next day. Now, while I can't think of anything more entertaining than poring over print docs to track old edits, my colleagues are wimping out! We are running out of RAM but the hard drive still has lots of free space. Files are in the 20-30 MB range.

Aug 7, 2009All of a sudden my computer (imac, 10.4.11) won't let me open images downloaded from digital cameras (I've tried several - so it's not the cameras). I get the following error - "Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Also the same basic error when using Photoshop and Fireworks. I can open files still on the camera, or saved to a CD - just not anything dragged to the desktop. I can still open pictures which had been previously saved - but nothing new. I ran the Repair Disk utility, which found and apparently fixed an Illegal Name error on the hard drive, but the problem still persists.

Jul 5, 2012I had used FileVault 2 on the entire drive and had later deleted all contents. After changing my mind, I used SoftTote Data recovery for mac to retrieve the deleted files. So now I have a bunch of reconstructed .dbf files and such, but I don't know how to access them. Any better way to retrieve the data I regretted deleting?

Jun 5, 2010alrightyyy so basically my unibody 2008 macbook crashed a short while back, needed to re-install OSX, files were saved, applications were not. I had been using iLife '09 off a copy that my mother got with with her 2009 polycarbonate macbook. After the crash I upgraded to 10.6 and attempted to install iLife '09 again. It told me thus: 'Alert: this software cannot be installed on this computer'. And that's it. I can't access any of my pictures in iPhoto or upload any(3 wedding albums :3), and I can't access any of my old Garage Band files, simply because they were created on '09 and since the reboot I'm stuck with '08. Major bummer. Bottom Line: is there any way to get iLife '09 on my computer without wasting $100 just to access files?

May 12, 2009For the first time, my screen shots [command + control + shift + 3] and [command + control + shift + 4] are not saving to my desktop. I don't recall changing this setting (or how to). Where are they going? I haven't installed any software that should conflict with this macro (haven't installed anything at all except Sim City 4 since last using the screenshot feature. The desktop folder is empty and a search for "Picture 1" finds nothing.

Dec 30, 2010I have an AOL email account as well as an email for my business through my website. The email for my business is working with no problems, but the AOL email is not showing the emails i am sending in the sent folder. It is also not saving an email as a draft if I choose to do so, it says "the email could not be saved". I also have both these email accounts linked to my phone and use the email app on my phone to send and receive emails for both accounts during the day.
I am using my laptop during the evening with the mac mail app and that is where I am having the problem. My phone will show the sent messages that I send on my phone, but none of them that I have sent from my laptop either. Anyone know why the emails I send do not show in the sent folder in the mail app on my laptop? Why it is telling me it cannot save an email as a draft? Everything was working fine a couple weeks ago, but since then I have not been able to view my sent messages or save emails as drafts.

Oct 29, 2010My wife and son are at her parent's house tonight, and I'm back at our house. I sent her there with a new ipod touch, so we can Facetime (I have an iphone 4). I told her she'd have to input her dad's network password. When she gets there she calls and says he can't remember the password. Then I remember it's saved on my MBP. I look it up (Settings>Network>advanced>[His network]>edit) and I can tell it's 10 characters (10 dots), but the "show password" box is ghosted. Other networks are 9 or 16 or 14 characters. His is a WPA2 network, like most of the others on the list. I'm running OSX 10.6.4. I seem to recall there was a way to show the password of a saved network. My MBP connects automatically so it's on here somewhere.

Nov 10, 2010I just tried downloading OS 10.6.5 and partially into the download, it disconnected and failed to complete. I was wondering if the partial download is saved somewhere. The last time this happened to me, it caused a big issue when I tried to finish downloading and install later and I ended up having to reinstall OS X. So... I would like to delete any partial downloads if they exist so that the next download is a fresh copy.
