View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a major dilemma I have a 2tb itunes library and I'm starting to worry about disk failures. Should I turn my G4 power mac into a server or just purchase a drobo.
I'm going to just load about 4tb into the G4 and have 2 2tb partitions one will be used for backup and one will be used to serve the media.
I recent purchased an iBook G4. It's due to arrive on Tuesday. I'm planning on using it for doing my assignments in University and generally browsing the web. I've purchased the 1Ghz model with 512MB RAM which I plan on upgrading to 1.25GB RAM. Do you think that the machine will be able to handle iTunes, RemoteDesktop (Win RDC) and IM Clients such as Pidgin? (Not necessarily all at the same time)?

15" G4 Powerbook
1 GHz PPC
2 GB DDR SDRAM
OS X 10.4.11
basically I am looking to use an original eMac 700mhz with 768MB RAM in my living room to stream itunes from our other computers. Only reason i am even considering it is because eMacs are way cheap on eBay, less than an airport express for use with airtunes, plus i could check email etc on it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my brother's iMac G5 (the original with the obnoxious loud fan) seems to freeze up a lot. We're trying to figure it out. While messing around in Safari, iTunes, iMovie, etc... it will freeze. The only solution is to hold the power button and shut it down. Upon restarting sometimes he will just get the grey screen of death. Nothing happens. Again force shut down and restart. He also will get the spinning beach ball of death where he can't force quit anything. Boils down to a frozen system and the only way to get out of it is to force shut down.We have run DU and hardware test (From the DVD) and everything passes. So we reinstalled 10.4.11 hoping that would clear the issue. Nope. It still freezes up. So I'm wondering is it a hardware issue? He does have some external LACIE HDDs hooked up but not sure if that could cause any issues.

Bought an iPhone 4.
Realized I needed to be running Leopard, so installed Leopard and updated, etc.
Now, I plug the iPhone in, iPhoto recognizes it as a camera, but iTunes is not responding.
Seeing as iLife 11 is now totally Intel, do you think the next iTunes release, aswell as things like Safari, iChat, etc will stop being universal binary?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI already have the iMac up and running and would like to bring my eMac libraries over to the new iMac. Is the easiest way to this is drag and drop files on the iMac from the eMac using firewire? How do I mount the eMac as an external drive? I bought a new ibook in the the past, but never transfered my 25,000+ picture iPhoto or 3,000+ iTunes libraries to it (saved space). Also, I assume all I have to do for the copy protected aac files I have downloaded on the eMac is to add my log in to the iTunes on the iMac?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow much RAM should I stuff in an eMac G4 (1Ghz I believe) to get acceptable performance as both a low-duty File Server and as an iTunes/iPhoto/iMovie '06 Machine? Im currently having this capacity filled by 2 machines: iTunes/iPhoto by a G4/450 and iMovie HD on my G4/1.67 . I know Ill take a slight performance hit, but if it means my PowerBook can go back to being a laptop, its worth it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB of RAM. My fan starts revving really loud when I am using multiple apps (Adobe CS2, Firefox, iTunes) and while watching a video tutorial or AVI movie (both saved on my desktop). It also happens when I am just watching a AVI movie with no other apps open.
I just added one GB of RAM yesterday thinking maybe this will solve the problem since I am running multiple apps. This did not resolve it. So I searched the messageboard for threads on fan issues similar to mine. I read it may be caused by the tempature in my room. I keep the tower on my floor on top of 2 pieces of wood about a 1/2 inch thick. I live in a small brick studio apartment so the tempature is usaully between 60 to 70 degrees.
I looked into smcfancontrol but it looks like its for laptops only.I also do not have a utilities program for my computer yet. I was wondering what was the best program out there to clean up/tune-up my hard drive so its running at maxium speed.Has anyone had experince with this issue and have any answers? I am concerned this may be very detrimental to my computer in the long run.
I'd like to buy a LaCinema Classic Multimedia Player 500GB for my G4 400MHz (sawtooth).

Do you believe that it will work in my 400Mhz PowerPC?
I curently have 10.3.9 with a PowerPC G4 dual w/ 1.25 processors and 2 gig of ram. I want the highest upgrade I can get that will be compatibe with my software which is:
Quark 6.5
Acrobat 7.1
Acrobat Distiller 7.0
Illustrator CS1
Photoshop CS1
Microsoft Office (don't know what version but I've had it for years)
I really can't afford to go buy all the software again and I don't want my system to crash. Any suggestions?
This upgrade is mostly spawned due to the recent purchase of a new iPod Nano... Not supported by my current OS! Man, I didn't read the requirements, shame on me. However, the dang thing will work on my kid's PC w/ XP Pro. I only got the Nano cause it's mac - he wanted the Zune that ONLY works w/ PC.
Just transferred my iTunes data from Snow Leopard to Lion ( Both same version of iTunes} and I am getting a message saying the iTunes will no longer sync Photos to my iPhone. Has something been changed as far as photo syncing?

When importing songs into iTunes, the software by default is set to copy the music files to the iTunes media folder and convert them to .m4a format. This, of course, results in having two copies of each song after the import is done. Before I disable this option I'd like to know what you think are the pros and cons of having this option enabled/disabled.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLast night I decided to update to iTunes 9.1.1, via the software update prompt. It prompted me to restart my computer (laptop, Windows Vista). I proceeded to do so, but it got hung up in the log off screen for over 15 minutes. I turned off the computer and came back into the desktop. Tried to load iTunes, but it wouldn't load anymore. Tried to reinstall the software update, but now it's searching for a .msi file that I have no idea about? Anyone have any input as how I can resolve this, and have I lost all of my music in iTunes at this point?

I recently upgraded my system HDD to an SSD with a new install of OSX 10.6.4 and mimicked the settings I had on my previous set up to replicate it. however, when for example I was using iTunes to play music the screen saver would come on and a short time later the system would pause iTunes and goes into Sleep mode.
my previous install never did that so I'm not sure if its because of the SSD and it not being mechanical it doesnt recognize it accessing or seeking 'per se' because regardless of unchecking "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" it still does it. here is an image of energy saver settings; btw I had the system plugged into and still went into sleep mode when iTunes was playing and even other media formats such as Video in iTunes or VLC.
I just updated my iTunes but it appears it deleted my library. This sucks because I have spent HOURS upon HOURS sorting it, renaming crooked song titles, finding covers and all that stuff. I used time machine to back up my computer like 5 days ago, but I can't figure out how to use it. I wish I could just select that given day (when I made my last backup) and make it turn everything back to what it was back then. How do I do this exactly? I don't care at all if I have to go back to the old iTunes (obviously they will fix this eventually!) - I just want it to look like it did a few days ago.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI am a new mac user (total convert--am on my second iMac in a month and am about to buy a macbook), and am having trouble with my itunes service. My first 24" iMac developed a clicking HDD, so I was lucky enough to be able to bring it back to the shop for a replacement iMac. I made a time machine backup of the first Mac and copied directly to the second one (which was flawless....how come I haven't been using macs prior to now? I've lost dozens of backups on PC). The only issue I've had is with iTunes--I keep getting an error that the iTunes library is newer than the version of iTunes on the computer. Is there anyway to fix this without losing my entire library of songs? I did make up a physical copy of the iTunes folder on my first Mac, just in case, so I assume that I could delete iTunes and reinstall a fresh copy, update it, and then copy the iTunes folder over to the new version. But this is a Windows approach to the issue and there is probably a simpler way of fixing this. Alternately, I could do the same but sync my iPod and copy everything to my library that way.

Ive been searching for the Library whilst in Windows but cant find it.

If I upgrade to iTunes Match - would that mean I can then delete files on my computer in my iTunes library and still access them later?
