PowerPC :: Cheapest Way To Upgrade To Leopard On EMac?

Jan 20, 2010

I have found disks that say "media only" for really cheap and I realize those aren't licenses but since the eMac has Tiger wouldn't it already have an OSX license? Links to products would be nice if possible.

Feb 23, 2010

tiger for ppc emacs.. and to go to ebay that they had plenty.

well i cant seem to find tiger 10.4 but i have found leopard.

i know there is no difference between the ppc and the intel as both versions come on the disk but my question is is there a difference between the macbook and the emac ver.

this is the version i found.. for macbook Mac OS Leopard version 10.5.4 AHT version 3A152 Disk version: 1.2 2Z691-6311-A

Will this work in a emac
its a restore disk so im thinking it should..

MacBook Pro :: Better To Buy Cheapest One And Upgrade?

Apr 4, 2010

I will be buying a MacBook pro when the new ones come out. This will be my first mac. I would like to know whether it's a good idea to purchase the cheapest 15 inch MBP and upgrade it as it's needed. I will be using it mainly to watch movies, surf Internet, email and occasional movie maker. Is this a good route to take? Is it difficult to change components on a MBP?

PowerPC :: Installing OSX Leopard On EMac?

Dec 5, 2010

I found a great deal on an eMac for the rest of my family to use. Before getting started, I wanted to reinstall Leopard using a disk image. Obviously with an eMac, I am not able to boot and install using a USB flash drive so I used an old iPod with a firewire connection and put the disk image on the iPod. The problem I am having is when I hold down the "option" key on startup, the iPod drive does not show up. Am I doing something wrong? To my understanding, I thought I could use an old iPod to install OSX

PowerPC :: Which Is Better For An EMac - Tiger Or Leopard

Jan 11, 2008

I have an Emac. I'm angry because the Ipods don't work with Panther. I don't think it's worth upgrading the OS, but if I was, which one would I want? Mine is 1Ghz and 768 MB so it meets the requirements for 10.5, but would it run better with 10.4?

EMac :: Upgrade Os X 10.3 To 10.4?

Feb 1, 2012

I changed from at&t to comcast and I have had so many problems with emailing.  I finally got comcast to get me to atleast be able to read my email but I can't reply to any emails.  My operation system is a Mac OS X 10.3.  My apple system correlates to M8951LL/A specs.  I think that comcast only supports OS X 10.4 and higher, mine is a 10.3.  Does anyone know if I can upgrade to a 10.4 with a computer this old?

I tried to download Lion and Tiger but both of those require 10.4 minimum.  Bottom line does anyone know first if it is possible to upgrade to a 10.4 with my emac and if so how?

Info:
emac 900 1 ghz, Mac OS X (10.3.x), M8951LL/A apple system

PowerPC :: Upgrade To Leopard From My Leopard CD?

Oct 22, 2010

I found one for sale for 300$, broken disc drive.

I went to try it out and i couldnt seem to do anything with it, youtube shuts off safari (works if java is turned on but i cant watch videos anyway), all sites seem disproportioned and assorted oddly.

Could I upgrade it to Leopard from my leopard CD that came with my 13'' uni (which was stolen)?

Is the price too steep? I dont need a heavy duty machine, just something that will run fine.

Besides that my Questions pertain to Leopard and Time Machine. I Know that Leopard will run on this Mac, But what about performance? and I heard that the eMacs cant experience the i candy Time Machine offers.

How So? is it true? I really want the Ability to use Time Machine. (Right now i'm just using Genie Timeline for my Windows 7 PC)

PowerPC :: Mixing RAM In USB 2.0 EMac

Sep 29, 2010

I just got a USB 2.0 emac for nothing that was going to the recycler. The door specs are: 1.25 ghz/256/40GB/Combo "About this mac" shows that it has 512mb RAM installed in one slot, and it is running 10.4.11 Anyways, it seems to be working great so far. I was able to get one stick of 256mb supported RAM from the only other 1.25 ghz machine in the lot - the rest were 700 - 800mhz emacs. Is it OK to mix the 256 with the 512? I've read many places that it is fine, but will it actually boost the speed of apps and things, or should I just leave it as is? I read somewhere that it might slow down the speed between the two RAM capacities. I don't want to spend any money to buy more RAM.

PowerPC :: Looking For RAM For EMac 1.42GHz?

Nov 26, 2007

I have just got an excellent condition eMac 1.42GHz with the Radeon 9600 Card every transition is so smooth! Smoother than my MacBook!

Everything is standard, but it has an Airport Card in it as well which is cool

However, standard also means only 256MB of DDR3200 Memory.

Tiger is installed and everything updated.

Now I am planning to move this thing to Leopard alongside my MacBook. How much RAM shall I get for it? 512MB or 1GB? (bringing it to 768/1.25 respectively) Also what do I need to look out for brand-wise or type wise?

PowerPC :: Using IMac/eMac?

May 31, 2008

my grandfather's dell laptop is horribly slow. I want to buy him a new computer thats runs faster for his emails/videos. I was looking at the old imacs/emacs on ebay (the 2000-2005) versions.

These comps fit in his budget of approx 100$. I was planning to buy an imac/emac with the following specs

500mhz (or faster) Processor (or 600/700mhz)
256mb (or more) Ram (512mb)
20gb Hard drive (adding external memory)
with the newer os x operating system.

My question will these computers fit his needs? He writes emails, he writes a ton of word documents, and he views videos off youtube and off a media player.

My question is that will these spec'd computers be able to run his needs efficiently?

Are there programs that are similar to the windows (which he is used to)?

Can you run microsoft office on these computers?

If not what would be the recommended specs I should look for?

PowerPC :: EMac Freezing Under 10.4 And 10.3?

Dec 25, 2008

My 5yo eMac (1GHz G4 with 1GB of RAM) freezes intermittently. Sometimes the mouse & keyboard lock up, sometimes a semi-opaque grey 'curtain' covers the screen with a message window in the middle telling me to restart.

Sometimes it restarts okay, sometimes it freezes on the Apple/cog-wheel screen, sometimes the grey curtain comes down again, sometimes the desktop loads okay but then lines of code scroll down the left side of the screen and it locks up again. The RAM is third-party stuff but it's been working fine for over 12 months. The freezing occurs under 10.4 and 10.3.

PowerPC :: EMac Update?

Feb 14, 2010

I'm new to the MAC OS, having migrated over from the PC side. I have an eMac running MAC OSX 10.5.8, with 2GB Ram. I'm having a couple of minor glitches that are driving me insane.

1. My computer always starts with EverNote running full screen. On the Dock, I have clicked the Open on Start up to remove the check mark, yet the next time I start up, there it is again. How do I permanently keep it from running at start up?

2. When I close EverNote, I then find a dialog box from ActionFX Log In that states that "To view this page, you must log in to this area on www.actionfx.com 80". I don't have a log in name or password to enetr. How can I stop this script from running?

3. Every time I start the eMac, the SuperDrive door opens and stays open. After the computer finishes, then I have to manually close the door (F12). Is this normal? Can I not open the tray automatically?

OK, was able to finally get Evernote not to run at startup. Just need to know about the SuperDrive door and the running script.
