I recently got a free machine. But it came without any ram. Im presuming I cant boot it without or I could answer the question myself. Ive got the code from the bottom (model no: a1177 emc no: 2023) But this leads me to 3 choices. 2.0, 2.3 or 2.5. Inside is a sticker that warns to unplug it if any liquid is leaking from it. I dont want to waste cash on the wrong ram.
Does this mean its a 2.5 dp. Or am I way off track.
I have spent all day with a colleague wrestling with a 4 and 1/2 year old G5 tower that has been throwing up all sorts of cranky errors. (i.e. firefox crashes, flash crashes, programs wont load, itunes stops working, firewire drives make it insane). As part of the diagnostic flow, I attempted to verify permissions on the core HD. Disk utility only took a couple seconds to determine that there is some unknown error with the HD, and it cant continue. This leads me to believe that we are dealing with a flailing drive, which very well MAY be the root of the problems! Time to make an external clone onto a fresh HD, and see if that helps.
Install CCC 3. Open CCC 3, it hiccups on the dock, and then nothing. *roll eyes*. Install super duper. Run super duper. Now super duper refuses to let me make a bootable clone of the core HD? Fine, if that is how you want to play this game. I get two SATA enclosures. Put the suspect drive in one, and then a fresh drive in the other. Plug both into my MBP where i run a CCC bootable clone. Couple hours later, it is complete. Plug the new clone into the G5 tower, and it does not see it as a bootable drive. Okay, lets try the CCC clone again. Same result. I am desperate for options.
I need to know if my laptop (running osx 10.5.6) was turned on 3 weeks ago. Do you know which specific log file can help me and what's the record that highlight the system startup during a specific day?
What type of ram does the powermac g4 use? im looking into buying some and the about this mac just says sdram, but newegg has two different types of sdram. so what type does it use
Ok the patient here is a new 2.0 Ghz Macbook. I just woke it up- or tried to. the sleep light was on solid, not pulsing with as it does when sleeping. It didn't respond to key presses of track pad presses. It did power back on after pressing and holding the power key. The desktop was greyed out and a metered progress bar came up and it slowly booted bakc up then resumed as normal. Is this that deep sleep mode, or is this something else?
My hard drive just died & I have been searching everywhere on what type of hard drive is used in this machine. I want to replace it but I don't know what to replace it with. There seems to be about five different types of hard drives currently out there. So which one does this machine use?
i just bought it and am having a little trouble exporting a track i made. i didnt do much to it, just cut it and can not figure out how to export. i go to the export option and then try and save it to the desktop but it is not there when i go to find it
I just bought a second hand powermac G5 with the hard drives 'RAIDED' The two 250GB drives are mirrored, but I want to make them concatenated so that I will have more space. I went into disk utility and I can't do anything, everything is greyed out. I can't delete RAID's, I can't change the type of RAID and I can't update the RAID. I've been sitting here for a while trying every possibility, but to no success.
Can all versions of the iBook G4 12" use PC2700 RAM? Even the 800GHz and 1.0 GHz models? I know you're supposed to use PC2100 in them, but the PC2700 is so much less expensive than the PC2100 right now.
I am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.
After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....
I have set up a windows partition on 3rd Hard Drive of my Mac Pro (400GB) with Boot camp assistant. Inserted my Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit disc and restarted. It boots from the CD OK (can hold down option and select the bootable volume fine) but the first thing that comes up is:....
I have a G4 Powerbook and I wanted to do a clean installation. I have my old my old mac mini dvds and thought I could use them on the powerbook. It says that it can not install that system in that machine. Am I missing something? Do I need a special DVD made for laptops?
Just got ahold of a iMac g3, 450mhz, 20gb hd, and 192mb of ram, (+airport +combo drive) what would be the best operating system I could put on here that would run normally?
How do you find out system specs on Mac OS9? All it tells me on "about this computer" is the RAM and memory used by certain applications. How do I see the hard drive size, processor speed etc...? In Mac OSX you use the system profiler, but what about OS9?
Just bought a second internal Hard Drive for my Dual 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 machine. Simply for storage, so no system apps are going to run off it. I've researched enough, can't seem to find an answer in writing. Hopefully this is a simple question to answer...
Basically the HDD is a Seagate Baracuda SATA drive. You know how the old IDE drives came with a jumper pin that you can switch from Master to Slave? Well, it appears SATA drives have an option of 1.5GB/s or 3GB/s instead. (News to me! A personal first internal SATA install!) I certainly know what that means, just curious if I want the jumper capping my speed at 1.5GB/s on this specific older Mac model or if I should simply open it up to 3GB/s.
For the time being, I've left it capped at 1.5GB/s. It makes sense that the system BUS would be the definitive capper of HDD throughput...such is why I'm asking if there's any benefit of opening it up, or leaving it capped.
just bought a used ibook. old owner's ID is still there... don't have his password. but i do have the system disks. can't i reinstall a clean system and make an identity for myslef?
I am trying to transfer the info from my old ibook G4 (with leopard) to my new macbook using a firewire and set-up assistant. I restarted my old computer holding the T and the firewire symbol appeared fine. My new macbook states that i can't transfer info without OSX installed....my old computer has OSX leopard ...i tried re-starting again and the same pop-up message as before is displayed in set-up
I have wireless on my macbook but thats cuz it has a wireless connection/Airport.But my emac doesnt Is there anyway I can get wireless connection on it?
I have an old iMac G4 sitting in a box, to be honest it's probably not worth anything, I've seen them online So I'm looking to maybe give it away to somebody that just wants the internet and iTunes, etc.
I want to do a fresh installation of the operating system, so it's nice and clean for the next owner, but I don't have the disks for it, anymore!
1 - At the moment, it has OS X 10.3.9 on it, can I put Leopard 10.5.4 on it?
2 - If not what OS can I put on it, and how do I clean it up without the disks?
i have an 2003 emac with osx and would like to get it back up and running but wirelessly, i have a pc running wirelessly at the moment and want to have the use of both from the same modem but cant use the ethernet cable due to location of telephone socket can i get a wireless adaptor for the emac too
I had a mirror drive G4 1.25g, 1.5 g ram since it was brand new and it had problems from the start that just got worse over time. I still need to use it semi-regularly and so I would like to know if anyone here might have a clue what's going on. Of the long list of problems, I'll describe the ones that are the most frustrating! oh and by the way, I zapped pram and I have reinstalled everything from the original discs which made no difference at all.
1. When booting into 9 or classic, just about every other time or so I'll get a system error and I need to hold the power button to turn it off. Then I need to boot into X and replace the system file in the classic system folder (I already have a copy just for this purpose on the desktop) and then it will boot ok on the next run. 2. If I boot (9 or X) and don't touch the mac at all, it will hang up after about 10-15 minutes. If I reset and boot a second time, it won't freeze. So my practice for years has been: boot up, wait for the desktop to appear and restart immediately. 3. Many (but not all) applications fail to launch with an error (quitting unexpectedly), i.e. don't run at all. Some launch ok when the application is launched but quit when they're launched via a double click onto a related document.
How does that sound? Is there any hope for this machine at all? I would be eternally grateful for any solid pointers just as I'll be forever mad that I did not return this machine while it was still under warranty!
Keep getting "System extension was not installed properly" message at start up after attempting to instal upgrade osx (snow leopard 10.6) right now I have osx 10.5. How do I repair it. Can I use SL 10.6 on a 2006 IMac?
Right now I've got a dual-DVI PCI-X card that runs two LCD screens on my PowerMac (the 256MB variant that shipped with the 2.0 DC). However, I just recently purchased a 37" LG LCD to replace my aging tube TV and I'd like to output my Mac to the LG to watch movies, etc. And at the moment, I have to unplug one of my smaller LCD's and run a cable to the LG.
