Tonight, I might have a chance to get a G5 processor from a friend, who wants to dissassemble his iMac G5 and sell it for parts (he's going to buy a 24" iMac C2D). Should I replace the G4 processor in my iBook G4 with a G5?.
I really want to do this and show off with this (if successful) in the public.
did an iBook produced in 2004 come with 2.0 ghz processor? someone is trying to sell me one but said that the os X is password protected so I'll need to reinstall os x?

I have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.
I know this has probably been asked before but I have no idea how to formulate search terms to not get a ton of junk results, so please bare with me on this.
I have a PowerBook G4 with a 1.67GHz processor and DVI output and a retarded graphics card. I want to buy a Pismo and hotrod it as mentioned by The Apple Blog. Basically, I'm asking if I can pull the processor out of the G4 and drop it in the Pismo.
Also, if there's any site I can look up sockets and whatnot for these guys, let me know. MacTracker doesn't mention that stuff as far as I know.

This is an unfortunate development! It appears that one of my processors has died on me! Is this, in fact possible - and still be running? I have included a screen shot, using Temperature Monitor to show the processors and ambient temps. What other way could I determine if it truly dead? And lastly, can a replacement be had? (I'm fairly adept at computer repair) If so, where?

They are both single processor machines, but I question the compatibility. I don't have the MDD machine with the 1.25 GHZ processor yet, so I can't look at them both for comparison.
I have found a cheap, broken Power Mac G5 for sale on the internet. It is a 2.5 GHz dual model. The owner says that one of the G5 processors is damaged.
Will the Power Mac work with only one processor? If I bought another processor will it have to be the same speed?

1. What is the optimal OS for my G4 and how can I get it (whether it be by purchase or DL)?
2. Should I upgrade the ram and/or processor?

I am getting delivery of my new macbook pro today. I have already received advice on how to transfer all my software and data over (thanks). Once done I will be selling my Powerbook.
Is it ok just to remove my personal data? Or do i need to do a complete reinstall?
If i need to do a complete reinstall i have a question. I cant remember where ive put my original discs but ive bought some which are original panther install to a powerbook. My powerbook runs on Tiger (ibought the upgrade discs last year but have put them with the originals no idea where!!). So do i just put in the powerbook install discs that i have just bought which will be for panther or can i just remove my data?
My iBook G4 power supply failed and I'm awaiting a replacement. In the mean time, can I use the power supply from my iBook G3 with the iBook G4?

How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. I have the tiger family pack, so I have a license for it. It only has a CD-ROM drive, so I am wondering if I can buy a 40 GB HD, and clone the one from my G4 onto it.

I originally had a pair of g4 466 "digital audio" machines and a g4 400 "sawtooth". After moving them around I end up with with a 466 "digital audio" a 533 "sawtooth" and a 350 "digital audio". Does it have to do with the bus speed?

There does not seem to be an update for this card for Macs. I have asked Apple for help, but they have told me my serial number does not exist even though it is registered and I have had technical help from them in the past. Can anyone explain to me how to remove keys on a powerbook 15 aluminum? i spilled a few drops of gatorade on the computer the other night and now the spacebar is sticky .. i think removing it and cleaning underneath will do the trick, but i'm terrified to break the keys by prying them off.. i've been searching the internet for about an hour and can't come up with anything

I've taken out the drives and logic board with down converter, but now I'm stuck behind the CRT. I know it's very dangerous, but I need to get around it to get to the board underneath it. Do I have to discharge the CRT or could I just snip the suction cable connected to it without any risk? I plan on recycling the thing, but right now I just need it out of my way.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have managed to scrounge a 2nd generation emac from college that has a faulty screen, the screen is totally unusable. i have seen the mod explaining how to remove the crt and put an lcd screen in there but to be honest i cant be botherd. all i want to do is run a standard lcd monitor externally from the mini dvi port (aquired cable from college also ) just wonderd if there was a way of disabling/ switching it off to save on power.
Also what version os would you reccomend running on this emac?
