Sep 11, 2008My G4 powerbook (running Tiger) seems to be stuck in sleep mode. I turned it on and the screen remained black but the sleep button is flashing on the front.

PowerPC :: Why PowerBook G4 Won't Wake From Sleep?
Aug 12, 2006My G4 Rev E PowerBook won't wake from sleep. The battery died and the computer slept, but now when I boot it, it gets to 3.5 progress bars and freezes. I have tried rebooting but I can't seem to get out of the resume from sleep mode.
Any ideas? It doesn't show the grey Apple screen like it does from a fresh boot, just the progress bars that show up when the battery dies.

Jan 14, 2010When I try to print from my Powerbook G4 to my HP 6500 wireless printer it will not work. I have found out that if I turn off/on the printer then it will print. So, it must be an issue with the computer not waking the printer from a sleep mode. Anyone have a solution to this that doesn't consist of me turning off then on the printer? May 5, 2012My Mac would not turn on this morning from sleep mode. I pressed the power button and nothing. Then I did it again and heard the fan shut off inside so I tried again and up it came. Also I cannot wake my Mac up unless I press the power button. I used to press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse and it would wake up, but now that doens't work. I don't know if this could be a reason, but my mother has a horrible habit of unplugging it when it storms. It's always asleep and I've told her not to do that and to make sure it's turned off before ripping the cord from the wall. But she continues to do it when it storms.

May 28, 2012Computer would only start after sleep mode if I unplugged the power cord. The power button would not do anything, even if I held it for a long time.
Shut down and start up would work normally. Only effected sleep mode.
After much trouble shooting I found that I had a bad USB hub. Everything on the bad USB hub would work fine so I didn't suspect it.

When it restarts, it takes a long time to get past the gray screen with the apple logo. I also have this same problem when it goes into sleep mode, when left idle. I have since changed the settings so it will not go into sleep mode when idle in system preferences. I have reset PRAM and SMC, but the problem still persists.

Oct 20, 2007I've been fighting bad sleep crashes for over a year. Sometimes it would freeze when it started sleep, sometimes when trying to wake from a sleep. I've spent countless hours researching the problem, reading everything on the boards. I tried resetting the PMU, turning off Bluetooth, removing all USB, and all of the other suggestions. Nothing alleviated the problem. Last week I replaced the lithium battery on the mother board because it wasn't keeping the correct time. So far it is sleeping and waking perfectly for the first time in ages. No more freezes or jet engine fans. I have my fingers crossed. Power Mac G5 dual 2 GHz, purchased June, 2003

Feb 23, 2012My iMac is set up wireless. Every time it's allowed to go in sleep mode, it loses wireless connectivity. Then, when I wake it up, I must go to System preferences, Network and request it to reconnect to my home wireless network. It always does this successfully, but it's quite annoying that it seems unable to achieve this on it's own. My iPad 2 and kindle can do this, why not my iMac?

Jun 18, 2009I can be in the middle of using an application, browsing a web-page, or basically any type of function when it will put itself into sleep mode. When this happens, I cannot get it to "wake up". I have to disconnect it from the power source, turn it over and remove the battery, wait a few seconds, then hit the power button, put the battery back in, then restart it. This is the only way I have found that will get it to come back to life. I don't like doing it, but I really don't see what other options I have.

Dec 29, 2009As of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.

Jan 18, 2009My Powerbook was given to me and it started to work properly when I set it up with my ISP and then one day I put it in sleep mode and it never woke up .
It starts with a chiming sounds and then it goes light grey.I then see user abort on the screen telling me to type mac-boot to continue rebooting or shut down to shut down.
I has a welcome to firmware and I think I pressed too many keys too many times including the FN key.I don't have the manuels to troubleshoot this laptop but the seriel number is QT0272GAHDR and it is an Apple 20gb.

Jun 29, 2008I am currently running a 15" Powerbook G4 1.67, 1GB ram, latest update for 10.5.
Yesterday my computer randomly went to sleep and wouldn't wake up. I forced it to shut down and then tried rebooting it. It started up, but went to sleep before even getting to the login screen. I have searched the internet, this website, and the apple support site to try and fix the problem.
I have tried resetting the PMU (although I don't know if I did that correctly), leaving it to rest without any battery or AC power hooked up to it, and the CMD + ALT + P + R reset all to no avail.
It seems like the general outcome for random sleep problems hasn't been too good,

Aug 10, 2009I am running Mac Mini as a home server (turns out to be not a great idea, btw), and even though I set the preference to never sleep or shut down, it does go to sleep when there is no activity for long time. Since I am using it as home server, it should stay awake all the time or at least wake up from sleep when there is incoming ping from other computer, but it just goes to sleep.

Jun 28, 2007About a week ago I received my new battery due to the recall. The last few days my power book has been great when I open my power book today it will not wake up. So i figured I would plug it in. The light stays green, does not change to orange, and still continues not to wake up. Even taking the battery out and trying to turn it doesn't work. Jan 6, 2011My Mac Pro 1,1 with a recently installed 120 GB OWC SSD Rev. 343A has been locking up (spinning beach ball) mostly on the "Enter your Password" screen when waking up from full sleep or displays going to sleep. I have to perform a hard reboot then it works fine, til it falls asleep and I have to wake it up. If I put it to sleep via the Menu it wakes up normally without issue. I've run Disk Utility, says it's fine. Repaired permissions. Ran the daily, weekly and monthly scripts. Cleaned my Cache with Onyx (not sure what else I could do with it)
Disksomnia is installed for FCP, to keep the disks spinning, never was a problem before. The SSD is the only major change in recent times.
Any knowledge or thoughts as to what I could do to find the problem?
Computer's up to date OS wise, 10.6.5, 12 GB Ram, Seagate 750's HDD's in the three other bays, Blackmagic card PCI, eSATA extender cable for two OWC Enclosures, other FW800 external HD's, NVIDIA Geforce 8600 GT & 7300 GT video cards for three monitors.

Sep 1, 2006Having some trouble with my iMac (the version right before the intel iMacs came out. further info can be provided if needed). Running all the latest software updates etc. When I put the iMac to sleep, it goes off as normal. With the usual white light. However, when coming to wake the iMac it won't respond to the keyboard or mouse. I have to shut it down at the power button, and then turn it back on.

Jul 11, 2007I put my 3 day old MBP to sleep last night with a 90% battery level (with the A/C adapter unplugged). I had calibrated the battery the day before. This morning, when I opened the lid, nothing happened. I thought this was odd. I then pressed the power button and heard about 1 second of the startup tone and then nothing. I repeated this twice more with the same result. I then plugged in the A/C adapter and the MBP booted up. The battery level was 86%. What do you think has caused this? Do I have a defective battery or something more serious?

Feb 3, 2009However, twice now when I've run the battery down (as recommended to keep the battery healthy), and then put it to sleep and plug it in, when I try to wake it up later, it won't start. Powering on and off just lead to a little "click-whirr" and the power light pops on and off, but no action. I called applecare and they said to unplug it, take the battery out, leave it out for a bit, then put it back in, then plug it back in, and restart it. It worked (although the second such crash, it took two tries for unclear reasons). Needless to say, this is a bit frustrating. Is this a known problem? Should I do something to avoid it? Is it a lemon?
