Mac Pro :: Tower Will Not Boot Correctly

May 31, 2012

This morning my Mac Pro tower worked but seemed buggy. I decided to reboot and went into Restart function. I got the chime, have display of Apple but instead of the spinning dial, I now see the dreaded circle with a slash through it. Not a good sign. I tried to repeat with same results.

Info:
Mac Pro (Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

PowerPC :: G5 Tower Got Really Slow And Laggy

Jul 8, 2008

My computer crashed yesterday, and when I reboot, it took forever to restart, then crashed a couple more times. I tried a disk repair from the install CD disk utilities, but after an hour or so, it said disk couldn't repair (I think it repaired things like the B-tree and directories). Now it takes 10mins+ to boot, and apps that used to launch right away, take a long time. There's a lag as I type this in now. It's a dual 2ghz PowerPC G5, 3gigs of ram, running on tiger 10.4.11.

PowerPC :: Why G5 Tower Won't Connect To Wireless Network?

Apr 18, 2010

I need some help/suggestions as to why my G5 tower won't connect to a wireless network. I recently moved into a guest house with free wireless internet. My landlord gave me the password to tap in, and it works great on my netbook, which is what I am using to post this entry. It also works with my iPod Touch. However, my G5 times out every time I try. It recognizes the network and when I type in the password, it tries to join it and after a few moments it says "connection timed out"

Why is this happening? I'm up to date on software/hardware updates. I've even tried shutting down my netbook to see if that was the reason it wasn't connecting, but nope. Still doesn't connect.I like my netbook and internet browsing is speedy on it but I need my desktop for most of my work and internet productivity.

PowerPC :: Replace Tower G5 Single Core Chip To Dual One?

Jun 23, 2009

Someone I know wants to buy a used Mac pro G5. It has a speed of 1,8 Ghz. I think he's going to use it for music. (logic pro, adium). But he said he was going to use FCS as well. His question was if he could replace the G5 singlecore chip, with a G5 dualcore chip. And if that's possible, could somebody give me extra info about compatibility and such. For example, will it just boot without problems when you replaced it, or do you need to do extra things (drivers, reinstalling the os and such). The G5 will be used in the near future for HD video editing. Also, I know the new intel mac pro have graphic cards from nvidia and ati. But what graphic cards do the G5 towers have? are they good?

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Won't Boot Past Apple Screen & No CD Boot

Jun 11, 2007

I have an iBook G4 1.07 GHz 30 gb 256 RAM with Panther. It was working fine until my HD got close to being full. Now I can't get it to boot past the Apple screen. It will either freeze there, or move on to the blue screen and freeze before the progress bar enters. I want to re-install Panther but I can't get any CD to boot during startup by holding "C", including the Panther OS CD, the Hardware Test CD, or the Tech Tool CD. I am able to boot to single user mode, where I type fsck -fy, and I recieve no errors with the hardware. I had this issue beore and my HD had to be replaced by Apple.

OS X :: Carbon Copy Cloner Used - Machine Not Boot

Dec 23, 2009

I had 2 HD's in my Power Mac G5 one with the OS etc on, the other empty. The second is a 250GB, the first a 60GB. I therefore downloaded and ran Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the first onto the second. I ran it yesterday and all seemed fine. All the OS and file structure (and its contents) copied fine. I then restarted the machine by selecting the 250GB disk through startup disk. I then was greeted by a No Entry icon instead of the apple at startup.

I've Restarted off the OS disk (10.5) and ran Disk Utility and Verified and checked all the permissions (which takes an age). Again all seems fine. But then it wont restart! The first smaller harddrive also now has a locked icon on it and will not boot. When I perform the Permissions Verfiy on this drive it give the error "The underlying task reported failure on exit".

IMac :: Installing New HDD - What Is The Best Way To Copy A Boot Camp Partition To Hdd

Jan 9, 2011

I want to replace the hard drive in my iMac (2009 i5 model) but I'm not sure how I can copy my Boot Camp partition over. I had a difficult time trying to installing Windows 7 on my computer the first time I did it, I had to slip in extra drivers and remove ram sticks and stuff like that but once I got it running it has ran fine without any problems. I skimmed through the SSD upgrade thread looking for info but I didn't see anything that jumped out at me. When I google'd the issue, almost all of the info I found was from 2009 and older. So, what is the best way to copy a Boot Camp partition to a new hard disk?

PowerPC :: Powerbook G4 Can't Boot To OS, But Clone Of HD Will Boot On Another Mac?

Oct 17, 2010

Got a Powerbook G4 with a "messed up" HD. Couldn't fix it, so got a firewire drive and ran a bunch of utilities from my newer intel iMac. Cloned the Powerbook's drive to a USB hard drive, did all repairs on the USB drive, formatted the Powerbook, cloned the USB drive BACK to the Powerbook, but it just gives me the flashing question mark when I try to boot.

What is REALLY weird is I can boot my iMac FROM THE CLONE ON THE USB DRIVE and it works fine.In Drive Genius the Powerbook drive (in TDM) shows as a single drive, but if I go to "Repartition" then it shows 3 smaller partitions on the drive; I believe they're called "Apple Free Space" or something like that (can't check right now, I'm running Repair on it AGAIN at the moment).

I feel like I'm missing something simple, like the machine just doesn't see one thing that tells it "Oh, yeah! There's an operating system on this drive!" I have tried partitioning from Drive Genius and Disk Utility. Have done clones back and forth with Drive Genius, Disk Utility, and Carbon Copy Cloner. Same results each time.

OS X :: Burning A Bootable Copy Of Windows XP On My Sysetm That Will Boot When Inserted In PC

Jan 24, 2008

if y'all are kind enough to respond to this, can you keep it in baby language. I have very, very poor knowledge of the world of technology, and jargon will only confuse me! Step by step would really I have a PC I need to reinstall windows xp on, so i downloaded a torrent copy of xp from the net ( i know it's illegal, but i had a licensed copy, and my horrible ex decided to take it when he left, so i don't feel so bad ) onto my mac. I expanded the .rar file, and was left with three icons. one says image.img and has a little pic of the harddrive on it, and has about 650 MB of info. the other two are small (4kb and 24 MB), and just show a blank page icon, and say image.ccd and image.subNow, I assume I need to get those files onto a c.d, which when inserted intomy P.C will automatically begin the install process on my P.C.

PowerPC :: Carbon Copy Cloner To IBook Hard Drive?

Mar 18, 2009

I just bought another iBook G3 from a friend, but it's running Jaguar 10.2. I have a PowerBook running Tiger 10.4 and would like to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my PowerBook's hard drive to the iBook's. I already have a procedure in mind but would like some confirmation:

1) Hook the iBook to the PowerBook through Firewire 400 and boot the iBook into Target Disk Mode so the PowerBook is booted and the iBook is a hard drive.

2) Open Carbon Copy Cloner and clone the PowerBook's Macintosh HD to the iBook's internal hard drive. Now, this would work fine and essentially upgrade the iBook to Tiger and copy all my files too? Or would this wreck everything?

Rebooted computer and the message re-appeared after it loaded the OS X. I removed all startup process from 3rd party software. Turned off Bluetooth settings, as I have a wired keyboard and Mouse. What could be happening? No new hardware or software has been installed for 1 year. All OS X updates are current.
