Mac Mini :: Creating Usb Restore Disc / Load Mini SL Client On Server Via Usb Drive?
Jul 1, 2010I do have a copy of the the Mac Mini SL Client software but I don't have another Mac to create the USB restore disc in order to load the client on the Mini Server via usb drive. I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number? Or is there another way to create the restore disc if you don't have access to another Mac to run disc utility?

Aug 22, 2010I'm copying the OS X tiger disc to a ext. HDD, I only have a USB external at moment. Making a backup copy for insurance on future disc problems. Can I copy it to the usb drive and then copy that to a firewire external later and it still work? If I read correctly our older machines only boot from an external firewire drive?

Mac Mini :: 2011 Will Not Restore Via Internet Restore?
Apr 8, 2012So here's my question:I've owned my share of MacBook Pro's, so I'm somewhat familiar, but not an expert. I got my mini last Friday from cowboom (a Best Buy affiliate), and since it's a pre-owned, it only came with the power cable and HDMI to DV-I adapeter. For those that ordered these, a majority of the people posted that it did not come with an OS, but the Internet Restore option fixed the trick. So I powered it on and got the flashing folder with the question mark. No OS. I did the Internet recovery and ran it through all the way to the the reinstall Lion screen. When asking what drive to install it on, there were no drives. I closed the installer and ran the disk utility and the only available drive was some basic drive that had a capacity less than 2GB. No other drives. I booted from my Lion that's on USB, but there's no drive to install it on. Any suggestions? I checked the warranty and the warranty cannot be verified. Some buyers said they had warranty from 8 months and up. One said his warranty showed starting from the day he restored his mac. I'm guessing because it was never registered I made an appointment tomorrow to take it to apple but is there something that can help avoid the trip?

Jan 26, 2009I recently obtained a Mini which I've connected to my TV for watching movies/etc. I don't have a keyboard or mouse on the Mini.I ripped a disc the other night (via a remote connection) and realized that I don't know how to eject the disc from the Mini without a keyboard, mouse, or remote connection from my MBP. I suppose there is probably some way to script MTR and then execute a disktool afterwards but what if I'm just watching a disc and want to eject it?

The Imac sees the external hard drive ( Identified as Logical Volume ) , I can see the files on the Blu Ray disk .. Sep 18, 2010I create my own music and sometimes people ask if they can have it on a CD. Since I really do not want people to be able to rip it to their computer's I have denied these requests. However as the demand apparently grows and more people start asking I feel that I would really want to be able to share my music with them, securely. What I would like to do is burn a cd containing my music that people cant rip. I know there will always be some way of doing it, but fore the average computer user preventing mediaplayer/itunes from being able to rip the music will be enough to keep them from doing it.

Sep 5, 2014there is a way to wipe my macbook clean and put it back to factory settings without an operation system install disc? I'm trying to make it run smoother and clean out the memory. I only have snow leopard on my computer and it never came with an installation disc, the snow leopard set up was an automatic set up procedure when I got the computer so i didn't have to insert any disc. Where ever I look you need the installation disk if you want to restore you computer for earlier mac versions. (i have version 10.6.8). My mothers computer didn't come with one either as it was also an automatic set up. I don't have the money for an installation disc..there is not enough memory on my computer to install Mavericks to avoid needing installation discs.

Feb 10, 2009I bought OSX 10.5 Leopard about 3weeks ago and still have not been able to install it onto my macbook. When I put the disc in for the first time I went through the standard procedure of clicking install OSX and then restart when it restarts however it goes to the Grey screen with the apple and the spinning loading symbol and just sits there forever.
I thought it was the disc so I took it back and ended up with the exact same problem. I then thought maybe I should just use my factory disc and wipe out everything on the hard drive. It gave me the same problem as trying to install Leopard.
Then I thought maybe it was my CD/DVD drive. Nope! It perfectly played a DVD and I was able to install Photoshop CS4 through the CD/DVD drive as well.
A Month later I am stock with a Macbook that won't budge. I am no longer under warranty so I am trying to see if there is a way that I can fix this problem first before taking it to the apple store where I know I will get charged...I love Apple but I must confess this task would be easier to complete on a PC.
I tried going to disk Utility and erasing the drive and that did not work either because it doesn't give me the ability to click the erase button when I click the Hard Drive. I got this computer from my friend's sister and apparently I am finding out that she had the computer's Hard Drive partitioned and running Windows XP on it on the TIGER OS.
I am not sure if this has anything to do with it but I think it may be a factor as to why the OS disc both Leopard and Tiger (factory disc) will not write to the hard drive. I'm thinking maybe there are some permissions or something not allowing it to write to the drive or something to that nature.
My idea is to wipe out the Hard Drive completely I don't need anything that is on it I already backed it all up. But how would I do this? Is there a program I can use? Can I take the hard drive out and take it to a computer repair store and they hook it up to something erases it all? or should I buy a $40 HD from eBay for the macbook?

May 8, 2009A baby managed to get its hands on one of my very important grey iLife restore discs. It appears to be severely scratched, though I do not have access to my mac at the moment to make check on whether it is working or not. Nonetheless, in an effort to salvage it, is there any way to make an identical copy for backup purposes? As in, rip the contents of the original DVD and then burn them to a blank DVD?
I am not financially prepared to pay some ludicrous price to get a replacement from apple, and would like to try everything I can before I resort to... other means of obtaining iLife.
OS X :: Superdrive Does Not Work And Need To Install Restore Disc?

My hard drive died 2 weeks ago.
So i just install a new hard drive and i forgot my superdrive does not work.
all it does is take the restore disk and spits it back out.
how can i install the mac OS on the hard drive without my superdrive working?
i have somewhere a old usb external cdrom but i dont know if i can find or if it will run/work.
If i find and my external will work, Can i use that to install my OS restore disc and it will reconize it and run/install?

Dec 30, 2009I had the poor luck of having my Imac HD die a few weeks back. I now have a new Imac HD and would like to restore my HD back to the way it was before it died. I have gone into time machine, then selected my Imac, selected my Imac HD, and selected the correct date in time for the restore. I have clicked restore and the system goes out and starts to do its job. It identifies all the files (roughly 200k files and 11.41GB's), then it starts to copy them, and it chugs away for 30-45 mins.
Then up pops a message:
"you can't copy "system" because it has the same name as another item on the destination volume, and that volume doesn't distinguish between upper and lower case letters in file names." The restore aborts and I have wasted over an hour with nothing to show for it. What can I do to restore my system? I have been unable to operate for 3 weeks now, and the people at the apple store just keep telling me how easy time machine is to restore from.
