so i installed windows 7 on bootcamp, i noticed that the keyboard backlight keys to adjust the keyboard backlight arent working. then i switched over to the mac os, and it also stopped working there!
whenever i press the keys, the transparent box shows up but the bars do not move, it is currently off, and it also has that crossed out circle symbol.
I'm using the thin aluminum USB external keyboard and suddenly my 8ik, diagonal of keys stopped working (now I'm using my laptop keyboard). Anyone know if this is typically a sign of a broken keyboard, or a user issue?

Yesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?
Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.

I installed 10.5.7 yesterday. Immediately after the installation was complete, my Apple bluetooth keyboard stopped working. Went into Bluetooth system settings, and it said that there was no bluetooth hardware found... (it's built into the machine!!)...
Also, every time I start iTunes, it gives some weird error about Adobe Flash player. I'm not at home now so I don't have the exact wording of the error with me, sorry...
I have a MBP with an apple wireless keyboard. The keyboard has brightness keys on it but they have recently stopped working. It is strange as the keys on the MBP still work but the ones on the bluetooth keyboard, placed exactly in the same spot (the wireless KB and the Macbook pro's KB are exactly the same), don't.

I spilled some water on my laptop this morning but it wasn't a lot and seemingly nothing happened. Then several hours later all of the sudden my delete key and arrow keys are not working. I can only assume this has something to do with the spill. My MacBook Pro is over 2 years old and I'm pretty sure the warranty is long expired. I definitely can't afford a new one or expensive repairs. Is there anyway to change the function of my keys? In other words can I change say one of my shifts or command keys into a new delete key ?

How do I change the delete key to backspace? Also, my arrow keys used to move the cursor within text. now it just scrolls the page up and down.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo a friend spilled some liquids on his new macbook pro 13 5,5.Unibody The keyboard no longer worked, the hd was fried, so he gave it to me and switched to PC's . I replaced the HD, and connected an external keyboard.
Luckily nothing else was effected and it powered up. What I find strange is that the back light still works although NONE of the keys do. The power button and the trackpad still work as well.
I have accepted that I have to purchase a costly top case, but could i not just replace the keys?
I have a Macbook Air, it's 18 months old, and the keyboard is sporadically fail. I see no pattern. The A and Backspace keys are the main two to go, they fail at the same time, and come back at the same time.

I always keep the system up to date with software, I don't use illegal software, I can see no reason why this should be happening. I'm running Yosemite, latest updates always applied.
Tempted to perform a clean install and see if that works. I'd book an appointment but with Christmas so close no shops are accepting bookings and the phone proved useless.
Just thought I should test with an external keyboard to see if that also has the same issue. I'll do that.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy cat slept on my MacBook last night and now the keyboard isn't working properly ... Some keys don't do anything at all and some keys do things they shouldn't... Any clues on how to fix this? I called the apple support line and we don't think it was anything to do with the settings in 'universal settings'. I'm not sure what else to do and this is one time I do wish I had a man in the house?! Or at least someone else who has half a clue! I rely haven't had many problems with my MacBook 'till now. I'm operating on Mac os x 10.6.8 Also, 2 cats free to good home. Or anyhome, it doesn't even need to be 'good'!

One of the keys on my keyboard are not working. The letter "b" isn't working for me.(I had to copy+paste the letter.) Is there any solution? I restarted my computer and even followed to apple instructions in hopes that it would work. However, the key still doesn't work.

View 3 Replies View Relatedhad my macbook for about a year and a half and recently it just stopped working. Literally it was fine one minute and the next the screen was just black. I tried turning it on and off and now it stays at the boot screen for like 30 minutes and then just goes to a blue screen. I can move the cursor around the blue screen and stuff but there are no icons and there is no finder or anything. everytime i turn it off and back on the same thing, bootscreen and then bluescreen.

I purchased a used "topcase" from ebay, installed it and I am still experiencing the same phenomonon, although other letters can type normally. View 2 Replies View RelatedIt seems that during my afternoon class, I shut down my macbook and then when I went to use it about 10 minutes later the keyboard nor the trackpad works. Now the keyboard/trackpad is not defective as it works via the OSX install cd and it works in Windows Vista (dual booted) When ever I start up OSX it just comes up and the mouse is in the upper left hand corner, and the keyboard doesn't work at all. I have tried a pram reset by pressing command + option + p + r and that did nothing. When I am in OSX the only way to get out is to hold down the power button till the macbook turns off. What else could be wrong is there anything I can do, the nearest Apple store is about 80 miles away so I am trying to avoid that at this point as it seems like a software issue.

Strangely, some of the keys have switched functions: expose opens a search bar, keyboard dimmer refreshes the webpage, keyboard brighter selects the web address, play/pause is now shows Spaces, skip forward is expose, and sound increase is dashboard.
