I've recently started using Hulu (I know, late to the party...), and discovered that it does not run smoothly on my single G5. It's running 10.5 on a 1.6GHz G5 with 3GB of RAM, the stock hard drive, and Radeon 9600 graphics. The video lags horribly. The issue is not my internet connection; it works fine on my Thinkpad. Am I out of luck, or is there something I should try to patch things up? Using Firefox 3.6, for what it's worth.
View 2 RepliesI have a Power Mac G5 2.3Ghz dual-core system (M9591LL/A) with 2.5GBs of RAM and an Nvidia 6600 PCIe graphics card with 256MBs of RAM.
I tried playing a full-screen HD episode of "The Office" on Hulu.com and it was extremely choppy (like 0.5fps). The sound was fine. It's still quite choppy (~2fps) in a normal browser window (not full-screen)
Is this normal? Does this video card not support it? What is the most powerful card that can be installed in this machine? I'm not opposed to buying a PC card and flashing the ROM if need-be.
I just set up an old G4 Mac Mini with a 1.5 GHz PPC chip and 64 MB VRAM as an HTPC with the intent to use it to watch Hulu and ABC.com and other sites where you can stream TV shows online. However, Hulu is very very choppy. The audio's fine but the video is pretty disappointing. In full screen it's really just a series of still pictures. I know Flash on the mini is supposed to not be that great, but is there anything I can do?
Is there any way to change the video settings of the g4 or of the TV to improve the streaming video playback? I'm playing it on a 40" Samsung LCD connected via DVI--> HDMI.
I'm booting off an external firewire drive through Firewire 400 and my concern is that perhaps this is the problem - the slowdown is not coming from the processor or the VRAM but rather from the Firewire. Can anyone with a similar setup let me know if this works for them. Is there anyway to speed up the I/O between the G4 and the Firewire drive? it's a LaCie 250GB D2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface.
According to the Activity Monitor, Safari's using 72% of the CPU to play from Hulu. According to Hulu's support page, the Mac Mini meets the system requirements. I'm just trying to watch the SD videos, not the HD. I have Flash 10 and Safari 3.1.2.
Well I got rid of the quicksilvers since they died. Power supplys gave out and took the motherboards, So I sold what was left on EBAY.

My understanding is that this PowerBook does not accept more than 2gb ram..... So, my question is this: Will this PB not accept more than 2gb ram total, or will it simply not accept DDR2 larger than 1gb each, be it one or two??
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy PB/667 took a fall about 18 mos ago. It's been fine ever since, except there is a single vertical line RIGHT DOWN THE CENTER - top to bottom. It's about two pixels wide and appears to be a bright green/near white color. Any display pixes that fall on this line are not visible.
A coworker suggested that this could be fixed but didn't offer how. Have any of you heard of this sort of issue? Is it fixable?
Someone I know wants to buy a used Mac pro G5. It has a speed of 1,8 Ghz. I think he's going to use it for music. (logic pro, adium). But he said he was going to use FCS as well. His question was if he could replace the G5 singlecore chip, with a G5 dualcore chip. And if that's possible, could somebody give me extra info about compatibility and such. For example, will it just boot without problems when you replaced it, or do you need to do extra things (drivers, reinstalling the os and such). The G5 will be used in the near future for HD video editing. Also, I know the new intel mac pro have graphic cards from nvidia and ati. But what graphic cards do the G5 towers have? are they good?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have put a brand new hard drive in the machine. I took off the plastic bezel to the power cord, to make sure it's plugging in all the way. I turned the computer on while watching the LED's on the logic board. All 3 stayed on, and the 4th never came on.
I have unplugged it, left it unplugged for a few minutes, plugged the cord back in while holding the power, then turned it on (forgot what that was supposed to accomplish). No change.
I have reset the PVRAM (or whatever) 3 times in a row by holding command-option-p-r until I heard 3 chimes after the initial boot. No change.
I can get into open firmware, but have no idea what I could even try in there (other than ejecting the DVD).
I hold down "C" while booting, it chimes, it goes to a blank grey background, then proceeds on to the white screen with the apple. It sits there for a few seconds, then starts spinning the circle for a while, then shuts down. I hear the optical drive spin up, but it does nothing.
Is it possible to watch a show on hulu on a mac all the way through without the system pinwheeling repeatedly? I just tried to watch the most recent episode of House M.D. on my mpb 13" 2.53 w/ 4 gb ram and could only get about halfway through the show before running into trouble. I've had the same problem watching Quantum Leap. I would like to connect this computer to my television but am afraid it's not worth the money for the cable if this pro mac can't do streaming video. Am I doing something wrong or is it the computer? My $300 acer has no issue..

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile watching video on hulu last night, my macbook pro running latest OS, froze. Tried to force quit, but no response, so I shut it down via the power button. On first reboot attempt, I got a folder icon with a question mark flashing where the apple usually is, on second attempt, just white screen, on third attempt, white screen until I hot the spacebar, then it booted up very slowly and now running extremely slow, as in it would take about 5 minutes to open an app.

I purchased a refurbished, original MBA 1.8 GHz and it is great.The only issue is that when I watch videos on hulu, youtube, etc, the computer struggles and gets choppy. This happens most but not all of the time. I think this also occurs more often when I have my external monitor hooked up as well.
I want to make sure that there isn't something wrong with the machine. It was purchased as a secondary computer and understand that it is not supposed to be a workhorse - but I would still like to watch videos uninterrupted.
I have a Quad Core Mac Pro which is running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I have 8 gigs of memory. I am using Safari 5 and the latest version of Flash Player.
This issue doesn't happen all the time but once it occurs it will keep happening until I quit Safari and then reopen it. After that it will begin happening again after a certain period of time.
It seems to occur when I have Safari open for extended periods of time and the memory pageouts increase. When I play music through the Rhapsody player, youtube or hulu and visit various sites at the same time, there's a popping or stuttering in the audio for a second or two.
The popping noise will occur when browsing a site while playing audio in Safari either through Youtube, Hulu or Rhapsody. The noise will occur when I click on a link to go to a website.
the Popping will occur when I quit Safari as well, it's sort of like a sound that shouldn't be there. It sounds almost like static electricity when you touch it.
The only thing that stops the popping is by Quitting Safari and reopening it. After that I won't hear the noise while browsing sites for a period of time. It will come back eventually though.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Flash player, repaired permissions in disk utility, rebuilt my drive with Disk Warrior, reinstalled Safari, and installed the 10.6.4 Combo update but the issue remains.

There are some sentences that are double spaced in the resume that I want to make single spaced I can't get them to be single spaces. Hitting the Delete bar does not help. It just pushes the sentence more to the left and then to the line above, not directly underneath it. And when I try to place the cursor with the mouse the cursor will not go directly underneath the line above but actually goes to the beginning of the line above. How can I get those double spaced lines to be single spaced

Upon restarting, I'm greeted with its very first kernel panic. (It's over two years old now.) Here's its specs, and what I've tried thus far.

I just purchased a new 27" iMac last week and can't get the new Bluetooth keyboard (that came with it) to boot in Single-User Mode.
I know if it were older and used a dongle it wouldn't do SUM (since it wouldn't load until later in the startup process), but I was told this new system would do SUM without having to get my cabled keyboard out every time I want to do SUM or a Safe Boot.
I wish to make a backup copy of my Mad Men DVDs, each about 8GB, but I only have single-sided (4.7GB) DVD+R disks.
Is there a way to copy the DVDs to such smaller DVD+R disks and still keep the menu structure etc so that it plays in set top DVD players?
Or if I can't keep the menu structure, how can I copy individual episodes to disks (CD or DVD) so they play on set top DVD players?
I know you cant install leopard/tiger on more than one machine..
but whats the reason/secret behind that..what kind of security ??
i just want to know so i can answer some noobs who were arguing that yes you can install it on more than 1 as its just a CD ...
