View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a SINGLE 1.8Ghz PowerMac G5 in 2003 and a little over a month later they came out with the DUAL 1.8GHZ for the same price. I wanted to die.
Is there anyway to get a 1.8Ghz G5 Proc. and just stick it in my Mac to make it a DUAL?.... or no?
I am trying to install a web cam and i am not sure how to do it. When i plug in the usb i do see it listed as a usb device but it will not work with skype etc. I have tried this on my macbook pro and a macbook G4. Do i need to install a driver for it perhaps? if so how would i do this?
View 8 Replies View Relatedhere's the situation. I bought an awesome new SSD. The Vertex 2e 180GB, one of the fastest new drives out there today and also a good value. (Newegg, $360 after rebate)So, last night I do the hardware install. My machine is a late 2008 MBP Penryn. Lots of screws, but otherwise not too tough. After getting it in there and closing up the machine, I come to the realization that I let my friend borrow my Snow Leopard DVD a few months ago and never got it back. I have a full backup on my Time Machine hard drive which I was planning on using to install on the SSD. My understanding is that I needed to boot with the SL DVD and then I can restore from the Time Machine.

Picked up a nice 1.5 15" PowerBook and I was just curious what OS would run the best? It currently only has 512mb, but I'm sure I'll throw another 512mb stick in it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've recently started using Hulu (I know, late to the party...), and discovered that it does not run smoothly on my single G5. It's running 10.5 on a 1.6GHz G5 with 3GB of RAM, the stock hard drive, and Radeon 9600 graphics. The video lags horribly. The issue is not my internet connection; it works fine on my Thinkpad. Am I out of luck, or is there something I should try to patch things up? Using Firefox 3.6, for what it's worth.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAt some point in the past I must have uninstalled the Mac Address book (or it was lost in an upgrade). How can I re-install that single application from the install disc? I'm running 10.5.8 on a G5.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay, I have a power mac g4 sawtooth single CPU. I purchased a leopard install disk for the cheapest I could find without realising that it wasn't supported on this machine officially (I didn't get snow leopard because I knew that it only supported intel). So I inserted the disk (without modifying) and after booting to it got a kernel panic beginning with "the correct driver could not be found for this platform powermac 3,1". I then tried the open firmware hack many times and the same problem occured. I also tried the guide at [URL] many times even with putting in the kexts that the guide told me to if I was getting kernel panics but to no avail. I then managed to borrow my freinds intel mac and installed it to my guid partitioned 16 gb flash drive, I then cloned it to my APM partitioned other hard disk using superduper! and when booting got the same issue, I then put in the relevant kexts from the working tiger install but again to no avail

I have a 2006 Macbook with a "Core Duo" processor. When I got it, one of the RAM slots was busted, so I put a 1gb stick in the working one to add a little speed. My question is, since the maximum RAM in this model macbook is 2gb, would it be possible to install a single 2gb stick into the working slot?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a mac mini running SL and W7, but I only ever use W7 on it. Is it possible to have a single partition on it running only Windows 7? Is it even possible to boot from a Windows & install disk *without* going near boot camp? I ask because it's only a 320gb hdd and I'd like to maximise the disk space on it - this isn't a yawnsome debate of W7 v SL
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.67ghz G4 PowerBook that has the dreaded lower ram slot failure. This limits me to 1gb of ram, though the machine works fine otherwise. My understanding is that this PowerBook does not accept more than 2gb ram..... So, my question is this: Will this PB not accept more than 2gb ram total, or will it simply not accept DDR2 larger than 1gb each, be it one or two??
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the Dual-Proc MacPro's power management:
If you are only running one or two applications, using one or two cores, is the power management smart enough to put one of the processors to sleep, or into a low-power mode?
My PB/667 took a fall about 18 mos ago. It's been fine ever since, except there is a single vertical line RIGHT DOWN THE CENTER - top to bottom. It's about two pixels wide and appears to be a bright green/near white color. Any display pixes that fall on this line are not visible.
A coworker suggested that this could be fixed but didn't offer how. Have any of you heard of this sort of issue? Is it fixable?
Someone I know wants to buy a used Mac pro G5. It has a speed of 1,8 Ghz. I think he's going to use it for music. (logic pro, adium). But he said he was going to use FCS as well. His question was if he could replace the G5 singlecore chip, with a G5 dualcore chip. And if that's possible, could somebody give me extra info about compatibility and such. For example, will it just boot without problems when you replaced it, or do you need to do extra things (drivers, reinstalling the os and such). The G5 will be used in the near future for HD video editing. Also, I know the new intel mac pro have graphic cards from nvidia and ati. But what graphic cards do the G5 towers have? are they good?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have put a brand new hard drive in the machine. I took off the plastic bezel to the power cord, to make sure it's plugging in all the way. I turned the computer on while watching the LED's on the logic board. All 3 stayed on, and the 4th never came on.
I have unplugged it, left it unplugged for a few minutes, plugged the cord back in while holding the power, then turned it on (forgot what that was supposed to accomplish). No change.
I have reset the PVRAM (or whatever) 3 times in a row by holding command-option-p-r until I heard 3 chimes after the initial boot. No change.
I can get into open firmware, but have no idea what I could even try in there (other than ejecting the DVD).
I hold down "C" while booting, it chimes, it goes to a blank grey background, then proceeds on to the white screen with the apple. It sits there for a few seconds, then starts spinning the circle for a while, then shuts down. I hear the optical drive spin up, but it does nothing.
I bought the late 2009 Mac Pro as i really needed it to do my work at uni and be generally more productive as working on my old white polycarb macbook was just not cutting it. Anyrate, so i bought the low end quad core, 2.66Ghz.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI had my computer idling and noticed that the fans sped up to full blast, so naturally I tried to figure out what was causing it to heat up. I quit pretty much every app I had running, no diff. I unplugged my iPhone, no diff. Even shutdown the computer, fans went right back up as soon as I loaded up OS X. So I looked at SMC Fancontrol (which I never really even use) and the temp was at 88 C!!
I have nothing open, completely turned off the computer and rebooted it to make sure that nothing running would be causing it, and it's STILL running hot as hell! Is there anything I can do to see what's causing it to run so damn hot? I really don't wanna put a crap-load of wear on my fans and CPU here.
I'm using a 2.2 ghz SantaRosa MBP running the latest version of Snow Leopard.
I just noticed that there is a process named "sh" which takes between 90 and 95% of the proc all the time. I just installed all available updates, but I can't be sure this is related.
The process I'm talking about cannot be seen in the activity monitor, but I can see it with istat. In command line, I'm unable to find it.
