all of sudden I got no sound - shut computer down - restart I had to reset - restarted and sound again - then sound quit and now no sound period outta front or rear RCA outputs

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to play a video on front row, but I'm not getting any sound from it. It's an .avi file, and I know it works as it plays in VLC and on my Windows box fine. There were also a few files that had no sound and no picture and other with sound and no picture.
I know very little about video, but I'm guessing that I need some codecs to play them? It's not a big problem, but I like bing able to play them with out have to get out of bed
I searched mroogle for a while and only found one similar thread but there was no answer. I hear a "pop" coming from the front of my Mac Pro case probably 3-4 times a day. It is random and happens whether I have my external speakers on or off. It sounds exactly like it is coming from the crappy internal speaker that the Mac Pro comes with. Anyone having similar issues or know what is going on? Leopard is up-to-date. My second question, which may help narrow down the issue, is how do I disconnect the internal speaker in the Mac Pro? There must be a cord or something inside I can pull to disable the speaker entirely. I don't use it and if it's causing the popping sound, I might as well unplug it.

all my MRoogling and Googling have led to forums that never found an answer.
i also tried switching to 1.1.3 (i like tiger's front row better) and had massive problems with iPhoto '09... so i will be reinstalling unless there is a fix for that (which i just asked in the original thread)

Can someone else test this and let me know if this works in Leopard on a G5 or Mac Pro? For whatever reason, Leopard DID NOT install Front Row in my applications folder (apparantly it is supposed to, but I haven't seen anyone confirming that).... HOWEVER, if I open iTunes and then Quit it... and then right after that I hold the ESC key.... I get access to Front Row. Am I the only one? Can anyone else test this and see if it works? I'm running a G5... but I suspect this should work on any non-IR capable computer. Can anyone confirm that with Leopard install on a G5/Mac Pro they get Front Row installed?

My switch completed in Christmas of 2005 with a late '05 Power Mac G5 Dual-Core 2.3GHz with 1GB RAM and 250GB HDD. I decided to get another monitor and it is a Sony 19" LCD one. I also didn't get any speakers since I used headphones a lot at the time. I recently decided to start using speakers. So temporarily, I am using the Altec Lansing BX1120 2.0 Stereo speakers from Walmart for only $15. They sound great but I would like 5.1 surround sound to watch my DVDs (and to soon upgrade to BluRay & SACD/DVD-A; but that's for another thread later on). Before I go on, I would like to ask questions and provide facts with what my 'puter has. My specific products I'm looking for is at the bottom of this message.

View 20 Replies View RelatedI don't get any output via the speaker jack on the back of thecomputer. Ive been connected this way for eons but from time to time I lose the output. The computer speakers work fine, but all I get when I plug it into my stereo is silence. I thought there was a reboot of some sort required. I did reboot everything even unplugging the jacks and the power plug for a whilte before the restart but with no luck. Whatever the cure this time I am burning a hard copy and saving it!! OS 10.6.8
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Lion and sadly, Front Row is not supported. I somehow found the Front Row app in my systems folder and moved it to my Applications folder. Front Row now shows up in my applications folder, as well as Launchpad. However, when I go into Front Row, it does not recognize any of my media from iTunes. I tried out this website: [URL]..blog/frontrowenablerforlion to no avail. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to make Front Row work in OS X Lion.Â

I can't tell it's obviously in a lot of shadow. I'm thinking 15", because it seems to be wide enough...but I'm not sure. Looks like it has the SD card slot, so it's the newest model, but I can't see if there's a combined audio in/out or two separate jacks. Any clues I'm missing?

View 8 Replies View RelatedThe only way my I Mac will turn on after sleeping or shut down is with the power button on the rear. I have a black screen and can get my ID symbols if i scroll the mouse across the screen abd it will beome my grey screen with my symbols and IDs. Otherwise, I have to use the power button.Â

Having tried to initiate a hardware test by inserting a Mac pro system disk and holding the "D" key down, I lost my usb sockets on the rear of the machine so the sysem hung trying to find the mouse and keyboard.
I managed to break out of this loop by connecting both to the front usb sockets and the machine is running as before. Is this permanent damage or is are the rear usb's retrievable ??

View 1 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine is having trouble with her 13" Powerbook G4 running Leopard. When you click the volume and mute buttons the volume overlay appears and all the bars are off and there is a "cancel" (circle with a slash) icon under it. In the sound preferences there doesn't appear to be any options under "output" It's empty. Any takers? I've never seen anything like this before. It's like the computer thinks there's no sound card on it. I haven't tried repairing permissions yet, I'll tell her to try that tomorrow.
View 9 Replies View Related2 Days ago the sound just stopped working on my 12" 1.5Ghz Powerbook. Has worked fine since the day I got it. No problems when upgrading to Leopard, it just quit out of the blue. When I use the volume keys on the keyboard, I see an icon that looks like the circle with the line through it. I check in sounds in the System Preferences and it states that there is not an output device. The system profiles shows the sound card.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi reset my powerbook and now i have no sound! when i press F4 of F6 to change the volume the little picture pops up to confirm that you pressed the button and it shows the volume at max but there is a crossed out circle underneath it. and when i check it in the preference pane it shows the volume slider as grayed out and also in the menu bar it is grayed!

I've heard you cannot plug in 4.1 and hear front and rear..you only recieve 2.1 is this true? theres two audio inputs on the back of this sub..front and rear...and theres another jack..a digital din port...which I dont know much about...does anyone know if both can be used..if which is better..and if I can really have true 4.1?
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy powerbook makes a strange sound every now and then, from the side the super drive is... but not when i have a disk inside. i don't know if it's the drive itself or something higher up under the keyboard... is that where the hard drive is? i've verified permissions and the drive and everything seems ok. should i be worried? (i do have time machine running so i guess i won't lose any data if something does happen, but still it's pretty odd for this to happen...)
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the past... week my powerbook g4 has been: not charging well, and not lasting battery wise as it has been (ive checked all my energy saving settings and cleared off all unused items!); its also been blacking out when the battery reaches around 30 mins left to go. it doesnt always do this just sometimes... without warning?? After the second time today of blacking out ive now realised i have no sound? I am a fairly new mac user (6 months) so please talk in friendly easy to understand mac terms!
