Mac Pro :: Red Light Coming Out Of Headphone Jacks / Fix It?
Jun 9, 2006
I am on an iMac, and there is a weird red light that comes out of my headphone jacks. But it is only sometimes that it happens. It also happens in windows. What could this be? Is my iMac Intel possessed?
first time i have ever come across. I have a Intel 2 MacBook Pro. There is no sound coming from the speakers even though it is not muted and the vol is turned to the max. There is sound coming if i plug headphones in the jack. Just noticed that there is a red light coming from where the headphone jack is...anyone have any idea how i can get my speakers to work again?
Last weekend, after I took my headphones out of the computer, I couldn't get any sound from the mac, and the volume controls on the keyboard didn't work. 5 minutes later I noticed a red light coming out of the headphone jack. I looked around for answers and apparently all you need to do is stick in a matchstick or Q-tip and wiggle it around to fix the sensor. It worked the first time. I could get sound from the mac and the next couple of times after unplugging the headphones, everything was normal. The problem has come up again, and I'm looking for a permanent fix. Am I looking at a trip to the Apple Store to get it fixed, or is there something I can do?
ok the other day i opened my mac book and i couldnt listen to my music through my speaks and i tried to turn up the music cuz maybe it was on mute but i got a pic like this (If u cant see it but its the speaker up full volume and the not allowed symbol the circle w/ the line through it) and then i discovered that there is a red light coming out from speaker jack and i could only use my sound through headphones or a jack through other speakers (like a sound system) but no only that i can only hear through the right side of the headphones unless i hold the cord a certain way
A few days ago I began hearing some strange high frequency noises coming from my internal speakers, and even higher noises when headphones or my external speakers were plugged in. A day later, the noise was only coming from the internal speakers and the headphone jack no longer works. I have the speakers plugged in and the sound still comes from the internal speakers with intermittent high frequency noises and whistling. I'm trying to get back my speakers or headphones in working order.
I went to plug my headphones into my Macbook and I noticed that the tip of the plug was glowing red, when I turned to look at the side of the computer I nonticed that there was a red light being emitted from the headphone port and the sound icon on the menu bar was grayed out. Is there actually a light in there? What does it mean? I'm uploading pictures right now, they'll be up in a few minutes. My MacBook is a late-2007 White MacBook running 10.6.1.
I was just listening to some music through some speakers on my old 1.8ghz cd macbook and then I unplugged the cable from the headphone jack and noticed that there was a red glowing light coming from the headphone jack. Now my sound is messed up, sound works properly only when something is plugged into the headphone jack. Nothing will play through the internal speakers when I try to adjust the volume with nothing plugged in I get this.
1. The optical light is always "ON" on the headphone hole only on Win 7 but not Leopard. How do you get rid of that?2. Keyboard light would not turn off at the lowest setting. Sound is not as loud as well. I downloaded the latest Realtek audio driver and it's still the same.3. 9600m GT is always on. I would like to use 9400m instead since it saves battery.
Basically I dropped my macbook pro and ever since I have not been able to get any noise out of the speakers or the headphone jack and there's a constant red light in the headphone jack (I have tried the toothpick method).
The sound doesn't work! I turned on my laptop and there is no sound. When I press the up and down volume buttons, it's normal, but there is no noise. Also, there ISN'T a red light in my headphone jack.
My 15" late 2006 MBP has just stopped producing sound from the internal speakers and for the first time there is a red light visible inside the headpbone output port. Apple support says contact support but since I'm a long time out of even my extended warranty.
I reset the PMU trying to get this monitor to work with my Mini. And that fixed it. However, I have lost my power light?what the heck to do to restore that as with the noise in this office, its the only way I know if the mac is on other than having the monitor switched to this box?
I've had my macbook connected to my speakers for much of the last couple of days. I reckon I last had sound from my actual macbook speak the day before yesterday - No nothing! The speaker icon in the menu bar is greyed out and in system prefs, all is normal and not muted. When I use the volume keys, the window comes up but the volume indicators don't move up or down and there is the forbidden/ no entry icon underneath the volume indicator bar. There is also a new red light omitting from the headphone port. (I'm using Lion 10.7.3)

i just got my macbook pro unibody, and first time i insert headphone in the jack the little piece of the head phone gets stuck in the jack. what should i do?

I don't get any output via the speaker jack on the back of thecomputer. Ive been connected this way for eons but from time to time I lose the output. The computer speakers work fine, but all I get when I plug it into my stereo is silence. I thought there was a reboot of some sort required. I did reboot everything even unplugging the jacks and the power plug for a whilte before the restart but with no luck. Whatever the cure this time I am burning a hard copy and saving it!! OS 10.6.8
I can't tell it's obviously in a lot of shadow. I'm thinking 15", because it seems to be wide enough...but I'm not sure. Looks like it has the SD card slot, so it's the newest model, but I can't see if there's a combined audio in/out or two separate jacks. Any clues I'm missing?
i bought a macbook pro 15. I know it has an optical in/out for audio. At home i have a 5.1 speakers - precisely a philips MMS 260/00. I really don't have any idea about how i can connect my speakers on the macbook pro cause it has just 1 1 optical input/output and my speakers instead have 3 jacks (green, orange and black). what i need and how i can connect this speakers (with 3 jacks) on my mackbook pro?Â

I have speakers plugged into the rear audio output, and headphones plugged into the front. I was wondering if it were possible to have audio play from both simultaniously...
all of sudden I got no sound - shut computer down - restart I had to reset - restarted and sound again - then sound quit and now no sound period outta front or rear RCA outputs
I'll be using the Air and all of a sudden there will be static or electrical buzzing coming out of the right speaker on my 13" MacBook Air. It's about 16 months old.

When I am in a quiet room, I notice a light humming coming from my macbook pro and also a light vibration on the right side. Is this just the hd spinning or something to be concerned about? it is 2 weeks old.
On my 2.66 GHz iMac, I can't get it to accept input from the mic that's part of my headphones. I have gone to Sound in the System Preferences and changed from the Internal Microphone to the Line In selection (see pic) but I get nothing. What am I doing wrong?
I seam to be having a problem with my head phone not working when I plug it int he head phone jack on the Mac Pro. Every time I try, it either play out of the internal speaker or directly out to my Karmon Soundstick II speaker. I try going to the preferences change sound output but doesn't seam to work?
