I have tried everything... I recently put an audio CD in my iBook G4 and have recently tried to eject it, but it will not come out! I have tried everything and my iBook just makes some weird sound and clunks and bangs.... but the CD doesn't come out. How can I get it out?
View 4 RepliesI just got an iBook g3 used, it had 800mhz, 256 megs of ram, 30 gig, and had osx 10.3.9. I am new to macs, but I particularly wanted an IBook, and I found it used at a good price. I downloaded some software (acquisition) and moved some files over via usb keyboard from a pc. Suddenly, it froze while stuck in screensaver, and I turned the power off. Now, it just stays on a gray screen when booting, and eventually goes black for a second, then reflashes a gray screen. No mouse, no cursor. What do I do?

I tried this:
<command> <opt> <p> <r> Letting it chime 4 times. But, no luck - it just sits there witht the gray screen/dark gray apple logo and that thing twirling around like it's thinking.
check that I've left it on and it has now worked its way to the blue screen. Cursor shows up and the twirling thing is gone(as are the little clicking noises inside like it's actually trying to do someting).
Now you're really going to let me have it. I don't have any of my original disks.
Guess I should take it to the Apple store and see what they say(no applecare).
I was running Tiger(latest version) and the ibook G4 is a 1.33 with 768mb of ram if that matters.
Luckily all my photo's and music are on my powerbook and mac mini.
Today i powered up my iBook G4, after a long time of waiting for the blue bar on the start up screen to reach the end, it became stuck once it had reached the end, i left it for a hour or so on this screen, and it hasn't got past it, i did a hardware test, and everything is fine, although it took about 8 minutes to complete the 'memory' test, so i'm thinking it could be a RAM problem ?, what do you guys think ?
EDIT: Just used disk utility and apparently there is a problem with the disk, that it can't fix, so i'm gonna have to reinstall OSX
I recently have recieved an ibook with osx 10.3.9 that doesnt have any wireless internet. Since i have a wireless adapter, i decided to install it on so i can use this computer for internet. Since the driver for the installer is only for newer osx versions i decided to upgrade my os. I knew that my cd-rw/dvd-rom drive isnt working so i booted disk1 of the cd-installation from my old ipod. Now it wants disk 2 and when i put in my ipod with the second disk it wont continue installation.

Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.
When I reboot, the audio is muted. The slider audio from the top finder window is totally greyed out and when I goto system preferences it seems to lag and stall out. After many attempts I am able to get into the sound prefences and see that everything else is muted and I am unable to change anything.
I am assuming it is trying to use the optical audio or something like that. I try to open the audio Midi app in utilities but I do not see much options to change. I am not sure what to change.
I had the similar problem with a laptop that went to mute due to the optical audio jack getting messed up so it would default to optical audio. However, pluging headphones in I could still hear audio. On my mac pro the headphone jack does not work either.
After trying to reset the PRAM and SMC settings, disk permissions I am still having the problem.
I'm about to do a fresh install of Lion on a spare Hard drive and see if them problem is there present. I have added a Blu-ray burner to the lower bay in my mac pro. Could this cause a problem with audio?

DVD in slot drive will play on computer, but when I hit eject button (or use one of the other many methods of ejecting) there is a grinding sound as if the mechanism is trying to eject, but the DVD is getting physically hung-up in there. I've prodded around with a business card, and it seems like there is something on the right side of the slot that is blocking it. It does not move when I press eject.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem for a couple months now. When I use headphones or external speakers my MBP volume gets stuck at one level. When this happens my volume buttons don't work. Everything seems to be fine (according to apple), but I still can't fix it. There is no red light in the audio jack & all of the audio settings seem to be normal. I've used CCleaner to repair permissions with no luck, I've called AppleCare twice with no luck, I've reinstalled my entire OS with no luck, and yet this all seems normal. Does anyone know what the problem is? Apple says its something wrong with my OS and they left me out to dry with no solution. I'm open to anything...that won't void my warranty.Oh and I've also done the PRAM reset and it worked for about five minutes...without even plugging in headphones after it was "fixed".

I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. My Mom recently purchased an ibook g3 (700mhz 256mb of ram) running Mac os x 10.4.11 off ebay as a Christmas present for my sister and I checked for updates the first chance I got. It showed two updates, quicktime 7.6.4 and some security update labelled 2009-005. While these updates were downloading/installing I noticed iTunes was version 8 and so I told it to install 9.02 but nothing seemed to happen, so I decided I would just do that when the other updates were done. Well the updates finished installing and it said I needed to reboot. So I did and when it got to the "starting mac os x" screen it stopped once the blue bar filled. After about 10 minutes of waiting I held down the power button so I could reboot. When I rebooted the same thing happened again. I do not have the install disk as it did not come with the computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy iBook G4, running Tiger, is stuck in a loop. While trying to reinstall os x 10.4 I was instrucked to insert disc 2. So I did. Resulting message: "There were errors installing the software. Please try installing again." with "close" the only option. So I close. It spits out disc 2 and message pops up: "please insert dics 2 to continue installation." The only way out is to crash but there's not really any way out because, when I re-boot I get the "there were errors installing" message and around and around we go. I tried to boot to my hard drive from the install disc but it won't go there. I did the hardware test and it says all is well.

There is no way to remove that thing (I tried everything, including matches with a bit of superglue). The only solution I see to get the sound back to the internal speakers is to disable the lineout.

So, I'll spare you guys the details, haha, but I am stuck trying to decide between getting an iMac Intel or a MacBook Pro for my home use computer. What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?

When I turn it on all I get is a file icon alternating between mac face and "?". Boot from IMAC CD: same thing - I hear the CD track switching a few times periodically but that's it. Boot from OS9 Install CD: same thing. I'm not that familiar with iMac, although I've had a few other Mac machines on and off through the years AppleIIe, PowerMacG3). Any suggestions what to try next?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy G3 keeps repeatedly rebooting. It goes through the loading process, but when it comes time to give you the desktop, it shuts down and restarts all over againl. As it boots up, a double image that you can't read comes up on the monitor, along with a solid color bar that separates the desktop image in two. I have two internal harddrives and changed it to reboot from the second harddrive, thinking that might be the problem. Immediately after doing this, it rebooted fine one time, but now is caught in the reboot loop again. When I startup from the install disk, the image is fine on the screen, as is the startup itself and when I run disk doctor, it says both drives are fine. I homeschool and would like to keep using all of the classic educational software on it for my 5 year old. It's running 9.2.2, 256mb memory 9gig drive is current booting drive, other one is 2gig.
