View 4 RepliesYesterday I was on facebook when my ibook g4 went black and turned off. There wasn't any beeping/flashing or anything but it won't turn on. When I press the little button on the battery 5 yellow lights light up so I guess the battery's fine but the laptop itself just died. If i can't get it fixed mum won't buy me a new one and i'll just have to deal with it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe charger for my ibook just decided to die, It has not worked like it should lately because it's beginning to break around the area where it connects to the mac.
Anyways.. when it died i noticed a tiny bit of smoke coming from either the charger or the ibook. Will things be ok again if i just buy a new charger or is the thing inside the computer fried?
Yes, this actually happened to me.
My wife's powerbook and my iBook died Friday. I believe the Powerbook's HD crashed. As for the iBook:
Its a 1.2 ghz PowerPC g4 with 768 Ram. For some reason, the computer runs all day when its stable and on my desk. Once I move it, the screen will go blank and its obvious the computer is on. But the screen is a black with everything locked up. When I power down, let it sit and start it up, it works again, only until you move it. You can imagine how frustrating this is. Its completely updated to the latest version of 10.4.
Onto the Powerbook:
I heard some clicking. It sounded like a hard drive problem. I turned it on, it went right to a black screen which looks very similar to a DOS command screen. It says "Computer's Name Powerbook" or something like that on a command line. It just stalls at this screen.
My concern is this..are both computers dead? I'm in summer session and NEED a computer. So I have to act fast. What can I do?
I have and old iBook 14" G4 that will not boot. I'm trying to transfer files and apps to a MBP. I've pulled the HD and have it connected to my MBP using an external HD adapter. I tried using Migration Assistant to move the data but the only choice I have is to move the profile and not the rest of the data. Does anyone have a suggestion for a workaround?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have tried everything... I recently put an audio CD in my iBook G4 and have recently tried to eject it, but it will not come out! I have tried everything and my iBook just makes some weird sound and clunks and bangs.... but the CD doesn't come out. How can I get it out?

View 8 Replies View Relatedis it even possible to upgrade an old dual core powermac g5 to a quad core or even an 8 core.
I have a dual core one and i really need to upgrade to a quad or even 8 but it is so expensive to buy a whole brand new one and i was wondering if there was a way to just get a new processor and more ram or what not.
My G4 finally died, no big deal, I have a pretty recent back up. It simply does nothing when I try to start it, browsing the forums indicates it may be a switch issue, I tried resetting the PRAM. Anyway, I was hankering for a new one anyway. Is there a guide out there to pull the HD to access as an external on the new Imac I plan on purchasing tomorrow? I probably need an external HD kit, but would it be worth it? There are probably some photos and music I added since my last backup.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo the 4200rpm drive in my 867mhz powerbook finally decided to bite the big one, so now after frantically backing up whatever I could I'm in the market for a new drive. I want 80 gigs, 5400rpm and an 8mb cache, and have basically narrowed it down to either: Western Digital wd800ve or Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST980815A Does anyone here have either of these drives running in their laptops?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs the 8 core overkill for heavy hi-res graphic design, but low use audio and video editing?
I have no experience with the current Mac Pro's. I have a 1,1 original, but I understand that the Nehalem processor is far superior to the Woodcrest from the original.
Question is, with 3300 as the base of an 8 core, does a 2d designer really need that extra processor?
How do you have a digi 002 auto load the core audio on launch automatically?

I have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.
My iBook G4 power supply failed and I'm awaiting a replacement. In the mean time, can I use the power supply from my iBook G3 with the iBook G4?
View 1 Replies View RelatedRight now I have a G3 iBook (900 MHz, 640 MB RAM, Combodrive, 40 GB HDD). I'm looking at a G4 iBook (1.2 GHz, 768 MB RAM, Superdrive, 60 GB HDD).
How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. I have the tiger family pack, so I have a license for it. It only has a CD-ROM drive, so I am wondering if I can buy a 40 GB HD, and clone the one from my G4 onto it.
SPECS
ibook G3- 500 MHZ
192 MB RAM
CD-ROM
currently has 6 GB HD
ibook G4- 1064 MHZ
1.25 GB RAM
Combo drive
40 GB HD
So, I'll spare you guys the details, haha, but I am stuck trying to decide between getting an iMac Intel or a MacBook Pro for my home use computer. What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?
View 3 Replies View Relatedare these two LCDs swappable? Can I stick a G3 iBook Screen into a G4? I have no idea and I'd like to have some idea.

Forgive me for not wanting to open the case and look for myself, but it lives in a little hole that is hard to get out of b/c of all the cables and stuff... just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head if the motherboard has another slot...
i have just bought a PowerMac g5 1.8 Dual core its the model with 8 ram slots, and i want to upgrade the graphics card to the best one possable that the mac can take but i dont know which ones are compatible i know its AGP but other than that i have no idea what im looking for!!!
View 4 Replies View Relatedi'm sure someone has experience here, but how does powermac G5 dual core 2.3 compare to MBP CD 2.16... and how does Mac Pro 2.66 compare to them?
i'm especially interested in processing photographs... not necessarily in photoshop as the CS2 comparison is kinda biased, and CS3, well, if you have those data, it's very welcomed.
i'm sure MacPro 2.66 will out perform the former two by far, but by how far? and will PMG5DC out perform MBP CD 2.16 or the other way?
Is it possible to put a C2D processor in the PowerMac G5? Or can the Dual-core PPC G5s run boot camp? I was going to make it a gaming computer, as I will only buy Mac =].

I was told its a good, non-problematic machine. Are they telling the truth. I am also planning to check it out, what should I check or watch out for.
I have always been interested in getting a G5, ever since they came out. I might be able to nag a Quad G5 for very cheap, but I have a question. I know that an Intel Core 2 Duo is faster than a G5, but how is it faster than the Quad? What exactly makes the Intel faster than the G5? I am looking at the Apple specs of the Quad and to me, it looks like a really solid computer, especially for 2005.
2 Dual Core 2.5GHz PowerPC Processors
1MB Cache Per Core (4MB Total)
FSB 1.25GHz Per Proc
Up to 16GB DDR2 PC2-4200
So, what makes the G5 Quad, or even Dual Core/Dual Proc G5's so weak?
What is up with this? Link:Intel PowerBook
