View 2 RepliesMy audio button is stuck in mute and I have tried to PRAM reset and nothing has worked. Is there anything else to try.
View 2 RepliesWhen I reboot, the audio is muted. The slider audio from the top finder window is totally greyed out and when I goto system preferences it seems to lag and stall out. After many attempts I am able to get into the sound prefences and see that everything else is muted and I am unable to change anything.
I am assuming it is trying to use the optical audio or something like that. I try to open the audio Midi app in utilities but I do not see much options to change. I am not sure what to change.
I had the similar problem with a laptop that went to mute due to the optical audio jack getting messed up so it would default to optical audio. However, pluging headphones in I could still hear audio. On my mac pro the headphone jack does not work either.
After trying to reset the PRAM and SMC settings, disk permissions I am still having the problem.
I'm about to do a fresh install of Lion on a spare Hard drive and see if them problem is there present. I have added a Blu-ray burner to the lower bay in my mac pro. Could this cause a problem with audio?

What to do to make my internal speakers show up as an audio out put/input option? How do I unmute with no options present?

Recently I was watching Netflix on my air when static started coming out of the speakers. I paused the movie, shut down anything I had running and it was still static just not as loud. I turned off my Macbook, turned it on and nothing. It has been stuck on mute for a few days now.
Note: I've was not using headphones when this occurred. I had tried plugging in headphone and still no sound, I unplugged them, no sound.

I have a late 2006 Mac Pro 3Ghz dual. Recently the volume dropped down to nothing and when I access the control panel, I see the mute button checked on all outputs except the digital (the one I have never used). All inputs are also muted and I cannot uncheck any of them. The little volume indicator is sitting in the lower middle of my screen and won't go away.
I have tried:
Zapping PRAM
repairing permissions
trashing the sound pref
using a different account
multiple restarts and shut downs
unplugged and re-plugged both the headphones and line out
And none of it has worked. The sound indicator shows up with the startup screen and never goes away and I have no sound. If I drag the volume slider up, it just goes back down. I am guessing this is a failing motherboard, being that I have lost my "A" RAM slot, but I really hope not. This is going to be unbearable to live with.
Apple revealed a minor tweak to the iPad hardware when preorders began Friday morning, with a button previously designated for audio muting changed to a "screen rotation lock." As first noticed by Jim Dalrymple at The Loop, the switch, located just above the volume controls on the right side of the device, is now devoted to locking the screen orientation in its current state. Previously, the switch was used to mute the iPad. One of the features Apple has touted with the iPad is that it can be used from any orientation the user sees fit. The new feature will prevent users from having the screen rotate unexpectedly as they use the device while browsing the Web, reading an e-book, or accomplishing any other task on the 9.7-inch screen. "There isn't even a single orientation," Jony Ive, senior vice president of design with Apple, said in the iPad's initial promotional video. "There's no up, there's no down, there's no right or wrong way of holding it. I don't have to change myself to fit the product. It fits me."
Like with the iPhone and iPod touch, the internal accelerometer of the iPad automatically adjusts the display to fit the orientation by which the user is holding the device. The iPad allows even more functionality than with the previous products, granting users the ability to turn the iPad completely upside down, with the home button up top, if they so choose. Because the iPad has a focus on reading e-books and newspapers, many users will undoubtedly use the device as they would a physical book or newspaper -- objects that are sometimes read by users laying on their side. The screen rotation lock would prevent the device from shifting as a user moves around. Additional physical inputs on the device are the on/off and sleep/wake button, volume up/down controls, and the home button. Apple began accepting preorders for the iPad Friday morning. Purchases for the device, scheduled to ship April 3 for the WiFi-only model, are limited to two per customer. [View this article at AppleInsider.com]
Apart from soundflower, which no longer works, is there any way to mute the audio stream while it is still being recorded with, for example. audacity?

Is there anyway to mute incoming audio when using iChat video?
I'd rather not mute the entire system as I would just like to mute incoming audio when I'm on webcam with my girlfriend. When I was on my PC and used AIM for webcam, there was that option.
I have a late 2008 unibody MacBook. This happened before, and now is doing it again. When I click or even tap to click, my MacBook acts like I am holding the button down. If I click in sons text it just keeps highlighting as I move, if I click the bachround it wants to just keep making a box. The only wY u can get it to stop is to hold down power till it shuts off. Everything else works like normal, but the MacBook acts like I am holding the button down.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an old "vintage" Macbook with Tiger as my OS. I have all sorts of sleep issues with it, and recently after accidentally hitting the sleep button, I had to force quit the machine by holding down the power button because it was just (beachball) spinning when I tried to start it up again.
I went to start it up and I get the gray screen with the apple on it and the spinning "clock hands" this goes on until I get a darker screen without apple and more spinning. It stays there. We've tried a host of solutions including the resetting through battery removal, we've tried to "archive and reinstall", etc.

I am doing a presentation and need a program that I can upload audio clips and quickly hit a button to play them (like a DJ soundboard). ITunes won't work because the delay between press and start is too long for this. Need to be able to hit the button and have it start right away.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem for a couple months now. When I use headphones or external speakers my MBP volume gets stuck at one level. When this happens my volume buttons don't work. Everything seems to be fine (according to apple), but I still can't fix it. There is no red light in the audio jack & all of the audio settings seem to be normal. I've used CCleaner to repair permissions with no luck, I've called AppleCare twice with no luck, I've reinstalled my entire OS with no luck, and yet this all seems normal. Does anyone know what the problem is? Apple says its something wrong with my OS and they left me out to dry with no solution. I'm open to anything...that won't void my warranty.Oh and I've also done the PRAM reset and it worked for about five minutes...without even plugging in headphones after it was "fixed".

i just got a macbook pro from my fiances sister as she broke the headphones off inside of it and just decided to buy another one.....so ive tried everything to get it out...crazy glue and every object imaginable tweazers you name it ive probably tried it....so my question is can i use a hot needle to poke through the backside of the audio out on the logic board? and if that wont work i want to completely disable the audio out jack and just use the speakers....(PLEASE NO POSTS ABOUT TAKING IT TO APPLE CARE THEY WANT $700 TO REPLACE THE LOGIC BOARD AND IM NOT DOING THAT...MAINLY JUST IDEAS ON HOW TO DISABLE THE AUDIO OUT....TRIED SYSTEM PREFS BY THE WAY....
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe tip of my headphones broke while connected to the macbook, my computer has this tip inside the audio plug and plays sounds on the useless lineout. There is no way to remove that thing (I tried everything, including matches with a bit of superglue). The only solution I see to get the sound back to the internal speakers is to disable the lineout.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell as the title says, my latch button on my 12" powerbook g4 1.33 is stuck in, and i have no idea how to get this thing fixed. It all started with a trip to the apple store to get my optical drive replaced because it was "eating" DVDs. When they sent it back to me, the report said they had replaced the bottom case, and within a week the button would get stuck in a crooked position so that the latch does not catch. I couldnt afford to give it to apple for another week because spring break was now over, so i just dealt with it until yesterday when i hauled it back to the apple store.
The genius there was like "ha! thats strange" and filled out the paperwork, and then can't get it to show up as a free fix because they won't replace lowercases without it being user repair. The head genius then came over, i explained my problem, and he said there was nothing he could do to help me, and then they walked over to the next customer.
So while at a gig last night with my band, we ran a video from my computer to screens on stage. The chain looked like so:
MBP -> Mini-DisplayPort -> MDP/HDMI converter -> 4-way HDMI Splitter -> LCD Monitors
Now sometime during takedown, someone just decided to unplug something from my computer without consulting me or taking any proper precautions. Now my audio is stuck on Digital Output (type digital optical out). Here's what I know, and what I've tried.I have reset the PRAM/NVRAM?I have killed coreaudio a few times with no luck?I have deleted without progress:
1) com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
2) com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
3) com.apple.systemsound.plist
I have restarted my computer?I have attempted to use Audio MIDI Setup?I have googled:
1) com.apple.systemsound
2) macbook pro stuck on digital out audio no red light
3) force resetting to internal audio osx
4) force reset coreaudio osx
[code]....

I have an Audiobox USB audiointerface with KRKROKIT5 speakers and must turn up or down the volume on the interface. the Keyboard button wont work.
But my father uses Bose speakers but can do both! However, he does not use an audio interface.
Can I get my imac to do both? And if so, is this a good idea with such good speakers? Is the keyboard just turning it up digitally?
I only ask because it can be annoying reaching up over the speaker to turn the nob instead of just hitting a button on the keyboard.
I have tried everything... I recently put an audio CD in my iBook G4 and have recently tried to eject it, but it will not come out! I have tried everything and my iBook just makes some weird sound and clunks and bangs.... but the CD doesn't come out. How can I get it out?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhenever my MacBook's sound is on mute and the computer wants to play a sound, the speaker has this little click noise.
For example, I mute the sound and go to trash a file. It trashes normally, but at the beginning, the speakers click (almost like they want to play that empty trash noise, but cannot because it is mute).
I have been having this issue forever and want to do something about it now. Whenever the sound is mute on my notebook, and there should be sound playing (Ex.: Startup Chime), instead I get a LOUD pop noise. I understand the whole thing with the sound chip powering down to save battery life, but that requires the speakers to be un-muted. In my case, they are mute, and never get un-muted. What do you guys think. Logic Board/Speaker System Replacement?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook is currently stuck booting up in windows 7. My shift key also appears to be stuck so holding the Option key when booting up to choose a start up disk isn't an option (it doesn't work). I do not currently have access to an external keyboard. I do have the startup disk. I'm wondering if I can use the startup disk to reset the systems startup disk? Are there other options?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe normal output volume is saved when you turn your mac off, but for some reason the input volume and sound effects are reset to mute when I turn it back on, why is this? Does anybody else have this problem its just incredibly tedious especially when you go to talk to someone on ichat only to find they cant hear and after about 10 seconds you realise and have to open up system preferences and change everything, also it means I don't hear when my mail arrives too.
