PowerPC :: 17" Display - Contacts Going Wrong
Jul 9, 2009
My old trusty 17" powerbook display is giving problems. Usually it works just fine, but some days it looks like this: Probably problem with contact or something. Would that be something that I could try to fix myself? Local Apple service is pretty expensive.

So I tried to set up bootcamp on my 10.5.6 17" iMac. the windows installation failed because of a bad disc so I restored my computer using my OS X disc and time machine. Now my display in OS X is being forced to 1024x768 and I cannot change it to anything else. It looks terrible and there are some artifacts... Any idea what the heck happened?

I have a CSS file that displays a repeated background. Only problem is, when I open the HTML file(linked with the CSS file to display the background) it doesn't show the background. This only happens when I'm opening the HTML file that is on my computer(local). I uploaded the exact same HTML/CSS files, and the needed images to my web server, then go to the link in my web browser and it displays 100% correct. So I know I haven't done anything wrong, coding wise. I have tried to open the local HTML/CSS files in multiple browsers(Opera, FireFox, Safari), and they all do the exact same thing. They display everything else correct, except there is never a background image. I am using a Mac Pro, with Leopard 10.5.7. Any ideas? Tell me if you need something more explained, or more details.

on Apple's website it twice says that the MBP-R supports 2880 x 1800 as I quote: Retina display: 15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2880-by-1800 resolution at 220 pixels per inch with support for millions of colorsSupported resolutions: 2880 by 1800 pixels (Retina); scaled resolutions: 1920 by 1200, 1680 by 1050, 1280 by 800, and 1024 by 640 pixelsI OWN a MBP-R and there is NO internal support for this resolution. The one that is not mentioned is the Retina optimized display of 1440 x 900. Is this a typo?

We have a Dual 867MHz G4 MDD (combo drive) running OSX 10.2.8. We're in the UK, which is Region 2 for DVD's.Somehow (probably by accidentally playing a Region 1 disc) the drive is stuck on region 1, and refuses to be changed to region 2.When I click on "Set region now", I get the attached error message. When I click on OK, the region 2 DVD gets ejected. How can I set the G4 so as it will play region 2 DVD's again?

My ibook was running really slow, so i decided to get some more memory. i'm no computer expert but i used to work in the IT dept and have replaced memory before (in pc's).
Anyway, i went to my local computer store, told the guy there what kind of computer i had. (ibook G4, 14-inch with a built-in memory and an empty slot). He looked it up on the system, figured out what i needed and i bought it. It was a Corsair 1GB DDR2 667mhz. He said it was exactly what i needed. I didn't question him.
Tonight, i go to install it, and it doesn't go in easily. I got it in though, and turned on my computer, and it wouldn't start. i took it out, and it started fine.
I went to some online forums about installing memory on my specific model and people were saying you really need to force it in there, more than you think would even be safe, but it takes a lot of force to get it in, so i thought maybe it didn't work the first time because it wasn't in all the way. i kept trying, and i got it in further, thinking i did it. i went to turn on the computer, dead.
So, i took out the memory, and now my computer still won't start. NOTHING.
I went back to the store, told them what happened, and i spoke to a different salesman than yesterday, and when this guy looked at what i bought, he said it was definitely not the correct one.
He said DDR2 is definitely not compatible with the older iBook. He also said that he looked on his system to find out what type i really need, but the system wouldn't show my model (because its a few years old). Pretty much, he said that the other employee messed up because the computer wouldn't even show him what i would need.
But what i would like to know is what's wrong with my computer exactly? did the mother board fry? did i lose everything? do i need to send it into mac for repair? how screwed am i? and also, is the store responsible for this at all?
The sad part to this story is that in early august of this year, this laptop's battery stopped working, and it was a problem with the power supply. I sent it off to mac and they fixed it, but when it was returned, it wasn't turning on. i sent it back again and they said the motherboard had to be replaced. luckily that happened a month before my extended warranty expired, but this time, i don't have a warranty anymore.
Any insight on my problem? Please someone, cheer me up. Tell me there is something i can do to save my computer and that my motherboard isnt fried again.
Can putting the wrong memory in your computer completely ruin it?

I have an old PowerBook G4 which I don't use anymore, due to this problem.I used to run Leopard on it, until it crashed, and I downgraded it to 10.3 (i think.)
Now, I cannot connect to my wifi connection. It reads it, but when I type in the password, (which I assure you is correct) it says that the password is wrong. And when I put in the Leopard install CD (for my macbook) it can't install Leopard, which is obvious, but I can connect to my wifi. How do i fix this wifi problem?

Purchased this notebook used, but very nicely cared for, excellent condition. I ran the Apple Hardware Test and everything passed including the logic board.
The battery has 500+cycles. The problem is laptop shuts down at 50% or less of battery. Clock is wrong at startup but is correct a few seconds later.
Runs forever and very nicely on ac power.

MacBook Pro 2009 running 10.9.4
I've only just noticed, but my iCal isn't displaying birthdays, even with the "Birthdays" calendar box checked. I think this started some time ago, but only just noticed it [brothers b-day isn't showing up this month]
I've tried removing it and restarting the application, and signing in and out of iCloud, but no change. I thought about deleting the .plist for the iCal, but I can't actually find it in the library/preferences folder.
Info:
Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

For the past few months i have been using an external display hooked up to my 12" powerbook g4. I have had it on a dual display mode so no mirroring. Recently i would open the laptop lid waking it from being in sleep mode and my internal display will not turn on. The apply system profiler does not even recognize that the internal display exists. My external display works fine and has always been set as the main display. If i go to detect displays nothign happens. I have tried restarting the computer, instering system disks, unplugging the external and nothing has worked. I simply cannot get my internal screen to fire back up. When i used to unplug my external display the internal display would switch back to being the main display and everything would be fine. Now i cannot get the internal display to function whatsoever. Please try and help me as a need this laptop working and i will be ordering a mac pro soon for use with my external display.

I am looking for a display to use with my Powerbook G4 12". I am in love with the 30" cinema display, but according to technical support today, my setup is not compatible (supposedly, but the person on the phone didn't sound to sure). I have a mini DVI, but the 30" requires a dual DVI. I think the 23" display requires DVI, which I can attain with an adapter. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can use with my computer? The bigger the better for me. Also what do you think of the older (plastic case) apple displays?

It seems that the contacts app has suddenly become incapable of accessing my contacts in the cloud. Its fine on icloud.com, its fine on my phone, and its fine on my ipads. However, I'm getting an error message right now which I think must be to do with an update to Little Snitch which I did almost immediately before, and which necessitated a reboot. Since the reboot, I am seeing the following
Of course, this also means Messages doesnt work. LS is not blocking any icloud things, and calendars and mail are still working with no issues.

I'm not exactly sure of where to post this... I'm having a problem with my computer (Address Book, I believe) syncing w/ Google contacts. I'm getting the following error messages:
The first image is the original error that comes up. If I click More Info, it brings me to a list of contacts. The "Before" info contains the correct fields for their email addresses (e.g., school, work, etc). However, Google wants to get rid of these fields.
Is there any way I can get Google to accept this fields? Also, can I have Google revert to my Mac's info instead of the other way around (my mac using Google's changes)

Being the IT guy at work, I've inherited a (currently) non-functioning Dual 2.0 GHz PowerMac G5. It' exhibiting some pretty odd symptoms. Let me explain:
First of all, the problems started with the machine coming on (fans audible, Apple chime 'chimes'), but nothing was displayed on the
screen. This led me to believe if might be a video card issue, so we ordered a replacement from OWC and no dice. After trying this, I happened to leave the machine on unintentionally for a while, and after about 5 minutes, the fans ramped up to full speed, very loudly. Since we were in a bit of a time crunch (and it was out of warranty) we gave up on it, and purchased our graphics designer a new Mac Pro.
With a bit of googling, I determined that this sound a bit like a dead PRAM battery. So once again, off to OWC I went and purchased a replacement. I get it setup at home last night, and still no dice. If fires up just fine and chimes, but no image on the screen. And here's where it gets weird...
I powered the machine down, and took the cover off to check the PRAM battery again, thinking I may have inadvertently put it in backwards. It looked fine (fits both ways, BTW, so I'm still not 100% sure I have it in right), so I powered the machine backup--but without putting the cover on accidentally. The red light on the mobo came on indicating the cover was off, but I figured I'd wait to see what would happen first. Still nothing on the screen, so I popped the plastic shield in and latched the side cover, and BOOM! Wouldn't you know, it displays an image! I can see a folder icon with the Finder icon on it.
This is 100% reproducible every single time. If I turn it on with the cover ON, I can never get an image to display. However, if I remove the cover and plastic shield, fire it up, then replace the shield and cover, I always get the folder with Finder icon. This is quite perplexing. I should also note that I had my retail Leopard install disc in the drive the whole time, hoping to boot to the DVD if I got an image. It obviously wasn't automatically booting from the DVD, but instead would always display the Finder icon.
Being a post-PowerPC Mac convert, I'm not really sure how to proceed.I'm still not really convinced that there is an underlying hardware issue still, but I suppose it's a possibility.

I have an old 450mhz powermac g4 and about a billion old sticks of pc133 (and some pc100) ram.
So I have 3 128mb PC133 memory sticks, and when i put each in the powermac individually (as the only mem stick in the computer), they work fine.
However, if i put any more than one stick in the computer, it will turn on but not boot up or display anything.

I just got an older 12" Powerbook off of eBay. The seller said that the display was damaged from a spill. When I received it, it powered on fine but I noticed that I could still see everything on the screen, just had to look real close or open things up against a white background. I assumed that it needed a new inverter board. I got a working one but when I installed it, it didn't solve my problem. So I pulled a working screen (display, lcd, inverter, etc.) off of another 12" Powerbook and installed it. The screen is still dim! Does anyone know what else I can do to solve my problem?
