MacBook Pro :: Beeping Sound 3x In The Middle Of Work

Jun 13, 2012

I have had no problems with my MacBook Pro until recently. I am working on a summer research project so I do not usually get the time to visit an Apple Store, turn in my computer for a day and wait.

When I lift my computer while its still on, it gives me a weird beeping noise which won't stop. I always have to manually shut it down by using the power button. It work perfectly well when I switch it on again. But if I lift it in the air or if it gets out of sync with the line of gravity, the same beeping occurs.

I guess I heard some particle go around inside my Mac when I tried to tilt it when in power off mode. Should I open it and check or is it too bad?

At present, I am backing up my research data. My work would suffer a lot if I have to submit my computer for repairs even for a single day.

Power Mac :: G5 Constantly Prompting Shutdown

Feb 1, 2012

Lately, whenever I start it up in the morning, I will almost immediately get a shutdown prompt ("Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now" ...). Nothing on the desk is touching the power button. Whenever I click "cancel", the prompt pops back up within a few seconds. If I hit shutdown or restart, it will just startup again with the same problem. Putting it to sleep doesn't work either, because as soon as it dozes off, another prompt pops up to wake it back up.

My company's IT guy thinks it is a power supply issue. He suggested that I unplug the cord from the machine and let it sit for 20-30 minutes (thinking it was building up too much of a residual charge or something like that). This actually worked for a period and still works most days, albeit not very reliably.

One intersting side note is that this problem only seems to occur in the morning. After, I've messed with the power cord and rebooted a couple of times, the machine seems to just get over the issue and I can work normally for much of the day. I'd to think I have a serious powersupply issue that might cause a crash.

MacBook Pro :: Does Not Shutdown Even When Holding Power Button

May 7, 2012

Today I started to watch a video from a news site (probably using flash) and the computer started to slow down very much so I thought firefox had crashed. Then I force quit it and waited about a minute or two hoping the computer would get fast again as usual but it did'nt happen, so I tried to log out and nothing happened and then I tried to shut it down by clicking the power button and clicking in shut down.

Right after that, the computer started to shut down or log off (it was still very slow) and something happened it stopped in the middle of the process and displayed a blue screen (the same colour that appears when you connect another monitor to the mac). Then I thought of using my last resource: holding down the power button until the computer turned off but again, nothing happened.

Laptops :: Macbook Pro Random Shutdown With Power Adapter?

Mar 16, 2010

Has anyone had the following problem? My Macbook Pro is 2.5 years old and has recently been shutting down for no apparent reason while plugged and unplugged into the power adapter. I went to the Apple store a few weeks ago for an issue where the Macbook Pro would not turn back on at all. They had to replace the logic board. But after that, I now have the problem of the shutdowns. I went to the Apple store and got a new power adapter because mine was broken. I thought that would be the problem, but it isn't. I also recently reinstalled my operating system and the problem is still occurring. Does anyone have any advice? My laptop is a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. My battery is in 'poor' condition, but according to the Apple experts, the battery has nothing to do with this issue.

OS X :: Won't Work With Temp / Overheated And Shutdown

Mar 20, 2010

Alright I am wondering what temperature the computer has too get too in order to shut itself off. what I mean is, at what point will the compute shutdown or crash before it overheats? I think my mac mini (07 model) is getting too hot and it shut off a few mins ago (not gracefully shut down more like someone yanked the powercord out ) and I think that the shutdown may be related to heat problems.

I just got a new macbook pro unibody a few weeks ago, and when i go to shutdown the mac, my cursor is stuck for a good 20 or so seconds and then i can finally move it to shut it down. This does not seem normal to me and am wondering if this is an isolated event or it happens to others? Is there a fix for it? Such as a new driver, reinstall, etc.

Software :: Won't Work With Ibook G4 / Shutdown When Unplugged

Nov 8, 2007

several months ago when my ibook g4 was just over a year old it began suddenly going to a blank screen when the battery was fully charged and the computer was unplugged. Sometimes i would hold down the power button and the computer would come back from seemingly having fallen asleep. other times i would have to plug the computer in and hold down the power button for it to come back. to do this it would make this whirring fan sound before going from a black to a gray screen and then finally re-starting up from the beginning. a box would then appear telling me that my date and time were set wrong and that this could cause some functions to behave erratically. this despite my having frequently changed the date and time zone back to my own and locking the settings. the computer keeps switching the date back to 1969. and now when i put a dvd into the computer it just spits it back out and won't play it. long story short...i am beginning to hate my mac. what's the point of a laptop if you have to leave it plugged in for it to work. apple tech support has done nothing to help me and has refused to admit that the g4's have a problem despite my having read about tons of people having these exact same problems after a year. i read something about how in denmark this consumer group proved that there was a faulty part attached to the battery coming loose and that they were suing apple.

Power Mac :: Getting A G5 To Work Wirelessly With AT&T?

Feb 21, 2012

I have a G5 and am moving it downstairs to replace my wife's old Dell PC. But I need it to now work wirelessly.

I had this computer upstairs next to the AT&T modem and ran an ethernet cable to it. The Dell has a LINKSYS USB54GC adapter which let it work wirelessly.

Can I somehow use this on my G5, or do I need to purchase a ASUS USB-N10 EZ Network Adapter?  Add 802.11b/g/n wireless capability to any Mac or PC with available USB Port. Sells for $27.99 at Other World Computing.

Power PC :: Mac PowerBook Won't Charge / Get It To Work?

Oct 18, 2009

Having an issue charging my mac. When I plug the charger into my mac, it turns orange, so I know its charging, but no matter how long I leave it in for it never has enough power to turn on.

If I move the charger around slightly at an angel in the hole it turns green and only then will it turn on, but the moment the green light goes back to orange the laptop turns off.

When I do manage to get it turned on, it says there is 0% battery.

I've tried using different chargers so could the problem be with the connector in the laptop?

PowerPC :: Using Power Mac G4 As A Media And TM Server - Will This Work

Jan 21, 2009

We've got two laptops in the house (my Powerbook 12 and wife's Macbook) and I've just bought an old 500Mhz AGP Power Mac G4 from eBay, partly to mess around with, partly because it was a great deal, and partly because I want to use it as a media server. What I'd like to do is have:

- iPhoto running on the server - cameras would be plugged in there, photos downloaded etc and photos streamed to the Apple TV

- iTunes running on the server - other machines in the house plus the Apple TV accessing the shared server

- printer sharing running through the server

- Time Machine partitions set up on the server for both my wife and I - set up as double our raw drive space (so 160GB and 320GB)

I've already upped the RAM to 1.25GB and swapped in two 120GB IDE drives. I'm looking to add a Sonnet PCI SATA card and a couple of 1TB Samsung drives, one to host the media and one to host the Time Machine partitions. The media drive would then be backed up weekly to an offboard brick.

So before I go ahead with this grand plan, I thought I'd solicit views on whether it's likely to work, where the bear traps are etc. I guess some of the specific questions I have include:

- is there likely to be a performance issue with the PowerMac in this role?

- can I stream photos to an Apple TV? I know it works with iTunes but thought I'd check on iPhoto

- would Time Machine work OK over a network? Any issue with hosting two TM partitions on the same drive?

The Power Mac is running Tiger, the others are running Leopard.
