I just purchased a brand new wired keyboard from apple for my imac G5, I was told it would work with what i have running, leopard. I followed instructions, plugged in
and checked for upadates, there was none, but the volume button is not regonized, the volume button instread brings on gadgets, or make the gadgets leave, in other words, some keys work for something else, or not work at all.

I searched the entire internet for this solution. I realize it has been posted but the symptoms were note entirely the same. I have a 1.6 g5. One night it was running awfully slow. I shut it down and didn't touch it for the weekend. When I came home the finder/? Thing flashes. Unlike some of the others, mine never boots and I don't have my discs to run the utility. Does this seem like a hard drive problem or am I looking at apples infamous logic board failure?

My iMac stays on 100% of the time, but a few months ago I turned it off for about 18 hours during a storm. When I turned it back on, I got the flashing question mark. I turned it off & back on about 8-10 times, when it finally booted up just fine.
It never does it at a reboot, only if off a while. For several months, it did this any time it was off a while.
About 6 weeks ago, it stopped doing it! Now, I can't MAKE it happen!
I should feel lucky, but I'm also nervous about an impending failure. When SL came out, I repartitioned the drive, first going to MBR, then back to GUID, just to re-write everything. That neither helped (the issue was already gone), nor hurt.

Yesterday my G5 (Dual G5 2 Gig, 10.4.1 OS) hung up while running illustrator 7, did an escape quit. Now the computer will not restart - a hard drive icon appeared with a flashing question mark. Ran the apple restore disk and the all hard ware pieces checked out fine. When I tried to reinstall the OS it does not open past the install icon. Startup utility does not find the one and only hard drive.

I have a 2008 black macbook with 10.7.2 installed (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). When I press caps lock, no green light turns on and letters remain in non-capital form. Even when I hold Caps lock for a few seconds, nothing happens. If I physically connect an apple keyboard via usb to my computer, caps lock doesn't work.

When I disassembled the MacBook I realized that the power button is connected to the keyboard. This is a problem for me because i will not put the keyboard in mediabox. I have an account in Mail.app that won't let me do anything to the e-mails coming into it. I can't delete e-mails, I can't mark them as read, and if I try to move an e-mail to another mailbox, it's copied, not moved.I've tried repairing disk permissions, and I've tried to remove the account and then adding it again ? but the problem persists. "Rebuild" in the Mailbox menu is inactive when this mailbox is selected, but works on my other accounts.The same account works fine on my iPhone; mails are getting marked as read and I can delete and move e-mails around. I have an aluminum numeric keyboard. and when I plugged in two scandisk Cruzer usbdrives it said that one of them wasn't getting enough power. So I read online and saw that some people said windows can provide enough power for both. So I turn on my virtual windows machine (which automatically mounted the usb drive that was connected) and then my mac was able to mount the second usb drive! But when I let windows try to host both drives in the keyboard windows said it couldn't power both devices either! this may just be because it was a vm.
But my point is at one time I had access to both drives in my keyboard(with one os for each one) but when using just a single one it wont work. Is there any way to change a setting so I can push out more power to my usb keyboard? I'm perfectly fine with terminal and editing files, but is there a setting to change anywhere?(it's only getting 300mA and the usb drives need 200 each and the keyboard itself needs 20 so that all fits in the 500mA range).
Cannot use the external keyboard's USB sockets anymore for mouse or printer. Warning says not enough power, use computer's plug. But there are none left. Tried to adjust power management.

I was installing a new dvd player since my first one died a month out of warranty. I had the top cover/keyboard out, with the cable still connected. All of a sudden the keyboard stopped responding, and now I can't power on the laptop. Is it easy to damage the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard? I was somewhat rough with it, but I am worried that I will order the whole assembly and it still won't work? I cracked the cover while doing the install, so I do need one anyway.
Is there any way to power it on without a keyboard? Are they crazy expensive at the mac store? Can they hook one up and test it or do I have to leave it there? I have too much important data to let someone have access to my hard drive. This is incredibly urgent since I cant get to my work data, and I am self employed. "This can't be right" was what went through my mind, but is it? There surely must be a way to turn on a MBP when it is attached to an Apple Cinema display and a USB Apple Keyboard while in the closed clamshell state. Surely there's a key-combination.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm one of the $200 suckers who bought an iPhone. For my $100 "rebate" I bought the new USB AppleKeyboard. I'm typing on it now. But when I first plugged it into the USB port, I got an error message like this: "The USB port is drawing too much power and it will be disabled." This is the same port the computer's original keyboard was plugged into and it worked fine. Now it's dead. The port is one of two USB ports on the back of my (original) Cinema Display. It's still dead. The AppleKeyboard is plugged into the second USB port now, and it works fine. But I thought I'd alert someone at Apple that this happened. Further, I'd like my USB port back but cannot find anywhere in the help files how to re-enable it. Unless it's fried, of course. But then again, how could the keyboard fry the port?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhilst working on my iMac as per normal, I get this little window that pops up declaring that a USB decice is drawing too much power from my computer and as as a result, one or more of my USB devices has been disabled.
This is not an alien dialogue box to me, I have seen it many times. The problem this time is that, when I removed all my devices to see which one was causing the message to pop up, I discovered that it was my keyboard that was misbehaving.
When the message pops up it states that the offending device has been disabled. This cannot be the case however, as I am able to press enter to close it, and if the keyboard truly is the problem then I shouldn't be able to close it with enter because it would have been disabled... right?
Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My keyboard is the standard wired + number pad one shipped free with new iMacs. It's not a custom one, it's apple stock through and through.
The baffling thing is that this has only just occured. In the year or two since I bought my iMac it's never been a problem.
Yes I have tried using a different USB slot, and no that doesn't fix it.
This box keeps popping up unless I disconnect my keyboard which of course is no way to use the computer, and I don't have a spare keyboard handy.

I have a mac OS 10.3.5, PowerPC G5. The sound does not work. I have restarted the computer, played with sound settings, made sure all speakers and headphones are unplugged. When speakers or headphones are plugged in the volume works fine, but when they are not in, I can't hear the thing.
